ESPN Silent Night Lights

Football again. Two in one day.

NFL might be diminishing but it's still quite strong elsewhere.

A few nights ago ESPN devoted the whole evening to a football team at California School for the Deaf in Fremont. This is in northern California. It has a little over 500 students. The other one is at Riverside. Their show is excellent. They had it on repeat all night long. There are aspects of the ESPN E-60 broadcast that are not present in this video. Their program had a newscaster set up describing the school and the school's athletic program along with other things going on there, accompanied by an ASL interpreter for deaf viewers. This video is different.

I tried to find videos but nothing matches so well as the original program. Their trailer for the show is worse. It is not informative, plays to emotion and it is cheezy with Simon & Garfunkle's "Sound of Silence as background.

Come on!

I watched a dozen or so. Most have to do with ESPN filming on site, on the football field, their practice and their games. This video is the best of the whole lot. This video introduces the players and the coaches. It describes their first five shutout games that perplexed their opponents and infuriated them. Nonplussed, they wondered, how could this be? Shut out like this and by such large spreads, and the players are deaf!

Their team is called the Eagles, (strangely, I haven't figured this out, other videos say "Talons) and these first five wins caused the players to believe they just have a chance at the playoffs. Then they took a few losses and their confidence sank. The players were forced to reconsider their inevitability, forced to reassess their whole team and to regroup. They had to rebuild their confidence.

This video has no sound. For the most part. This is not intended to submerge viewers into the deaf experience, rather, the reason is more prosaic. Copyrights. The video is 15 minutes. The song "Wishing Well" by DJ Nobody kicks in abruptly at 8:39 for just a few bars then ends again just as you begin to accept it. It's a rather good song. I listened to it elsewhere. Good choice.

I like this video quite a lot. The coach is the most difficult for me to understand. He signs rapidly in slapdash chopping fashion and in front of his face, not at his chest, fingers all over the place. But man, does he ever put up a great team. He is a very real coach. It's touching.

My favorite part of this whole video is not their wining streak, not their individual statements, their life stories, their brief descriptions of their experiences with hearing people, no, it's at the 9:50 mark where Zane Pedersen, the quarterback this year, says, "I didn't want to end my High School career like that." I burst out laughing. For some reason I found that insanely funny. While there is nothing actually funny about it. It still cracks me up.

Is the NFL in a Death Spiral and going the way of big time boxing?

NFL’s Blah Season may Foreshadow a Long Decline

The thrill is gone from the NFL this season. Too many games -- and teams -- are boring and inconsequential. Few players stand out. Injuries determine outcomes more often than not. Games are sloppily played and marred by penalties, replays and endless commercial breaks. Add in suspensions, concussions and bad behavior on and off the field and you have a league in crisis.

Reports of long-term brain trauma have interjected a moral component into viewing, accentuating the violence and making games hard to watch for many. Now some players feel it’s their right to use NFL games to promote racial politics. Must-see TV it isn’t.

Ratings reflect the malaise, down over 10 percent on average from last year, double that for Monday night games. Numerous causes are to blame, but the triggering event this season was the national anthem protests started by Colin Kaepernick, the $114 million quarterback who said he wouldn’t “stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.” The people without color he’s smearing make up about 80 percent of the NFL’s audience.

i am sorry you are sorry

“I’m very, very sorry. It was never meant to ever happen this way to you,” Wenner told Nicole Eramo in taped testimony played at the
$7.85 million defamation trial.

“And believe me, I’ve suffered as much as you have,” he said. “And I know what it’s like. I hope that this whole thing hadn’t happened but it is, and it’s what we live with.”

Eramo claims the November 2014 story “A Rape on Campus” portrayed her as the “chief villain” who was cruelly indifferent to gang-rape allegations made by a former UVA student identified as “Jackie.”

Tippi Hedren: Alfred Hitchcock sexually assaulted me

New York Post By Raquel Laneri October 29, 2016

It turns out the fear and loathing you see in Tippi Hedren’s eyes as she’s attacked by vicious avians in the “The Birds” was real.
Modal Trigger
“Tippi: A Memoir” by Tippi Hedren (William Morrow)
During the six months the actress spent making the 1963 movie — her big break — Hedren suffered constant sexual harassment, intimidation and cruelty at the hands of director Alfred Hitchcock, she writes in her memoir, “Tippi” (William Morrow, out Tuesday). It’s the first time she’s written about the experiences, which inspired the 2012 HBO film “The Girl.”
Working with the famed director had, at first, seemed like good fortune. Hedren, then 31, had just moved to Los Angeles from New York City, a divorced single mother with a dwindling modeling career and a 5-year-old daughter — Melanie Griffith, who would grow up to be an actress as well. Hitchcock saw Hedren in a television commercial for a meal-replacement shake and tracked her down.
Suddenly, she had a five-year movie contract — plus acting classes with Hitch and his wife, film editor Alma Reville — and a starring role in “The Birds,” the director’s anticipated follow-up to “Psycho.”
But Hitchcock’s interest in his muse rapidly devolved into obsession.

I was fired because I am a Witch

I was fired from a job for being a witch

New York Post By Jane Ridley and Liz Pressman October 29, 2016

A news librarian at The Post, Liz Pressman has been a practicing witch for 42 years — and has recently noticed that pop culture has taken a more open view of her religion, Wicca. This is her story . . .
Listening to the human resources manager, I could hardly believe my ears.
“We’re letting you go,” she said. A colleague had complained about the goddess pendant I wore to the office — and I’d blithely informed HR that I was a practicing witch. Being honest about my commitment to “the craft” cost me my job at the investment bank where I was a temporary librarian in 1997. It stung. And, for a while at least, it taught me to keep my faith under wraps because of all the misconceptions about the occult.
Nearly two decades on, at the age of 58, I feel empowered to declare that I’m a Wiccan high priestess who is eagerly anticipating Halloween, known as Samhain, and the start of a new year for those who share my spiritual path and identity.

Mariah Carey ‘wants millions’ from James Packer

New York Post Page Six Emily Smith and Carlos Greer October 28, 2016

Mariah Carey is keeping her $10 million ring from her billionaire ex-fiancé James Packer — and now she “wants millions in a settlement” for uprooting her life to be with him.
Carey was spotted out at Nobu in Malibu, Calif., on Thursday night in an eye-catching, skin-baring outfit and still flashing her titanic 35-carat diamond ring from Packer.
The couple split following a fight on his yacht in Greece in September amid rumors that the diva had been hooking up with backup dancer Bryan Tanaka.
According to reports, Carey is now seeking $50 million from Packer for uprooting her life to move to LA for him, and claims she’s so traumatized by the split that she’s had to cancel the South American leg of her tour.
But a source close to the warring ex-couple said, “Of course Mariah wants money, but she’s not getting $50 million. There’s no negotiations about money because they haven’t spoken since the split. He let her keep the ring, and she isn’t getting a cent more. It is ridiculous to claim that James is the reason for the cancellation of her South America tour. A few days ago she blamed it on the promoters.”

lynching the fifth

Attorney General Loretta Lynch is declining to comply with an investigation by leading members of Congress about the Obama administration’s secret efforts to send Iran $1.7 billion in cash earlier this year, prompting accusations that Lynch has “pleaded the Fifth” Amendment to avoid incriminating herself over these payments, according to lawmakers and communications exclusively obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

flamingo morning

Psych! The sky is flamingo, the birds are geese.

There really weren't any geese, I added them, for we are geeseless around here downtown. Those things are all out farther west in the foothills and east of the city. Except sometimes they follow the Platte and that does run through town.

Did I ever tell you about the time my crazy excitable German shepherd, always a sport and up for a game, the perfect young teenager's companion, charged a whole flock of Canadian geese, thousands out in the field behind my parents house in the foothills causing the whole flock to launch into flight, a real sight to behold, and the dog gleefully leapt in the air high as he could, another remarkable sight, and pulled one down by its foot? Then he didn't know what to do with it and neither did we. Stupidly we just left it out there and we felt guilty about the whole incident. We were exurbanites not sportsmen hunters. We knew nothing of such things. Shamed, we imagined my dog broke a law governing the interference of migrating Canadian geese. We could probably be fined. We were new to the wilderness out there.

Man, if that happened now I would say, "Good boy!" Chop off the goose's head, stick its body in hot water, pull off its feathers, gut it, and roast it with the dog right there watching the whole time and then give him a leg to munch. To encourage that extraordinary natural K-9 behavior. And have a fine goose dinner.

Those frozen geese are expensive, you know.

Today I wish that I would have known the clouds were going to do this. I'd have set up a time lapse. I watched the whole thing develop. Sunrise started out ordinarily. I wasn't expecting a spectacular light and color show. But it was. This is a thing that I cannot say enough We are given spectacular shows twice a day and almost all of us sleep right through them. And if awake, we cannot just slow down and watch. Watch in awe and in wonder. Truly, they are something to live for.

Carlos Danger to the Rescue!

New York Post October 28, 2016 by Daniel Halper

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has reopened its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails after finding new evidence on seized devices belonging to Anthony Weiner and Huma Abedin, according to Fox News.
The devices were seized after it was revealed that Weiner, a former member of Congress and mayoral candidate, had been sexting with an underage girl.
The feds began to investigate Weiner, 52, after he sent a slew of sexual messages and shirtless selfies to a 15-year-old North Carolina girl.
Weiner allegedly shared his “rape fantasies” with the teen and even sent her pornographic videos.
He also is alleged to have asked the teen to get on Skype to undress and masturbate.
The former politician engaged in his possibly criminal activity using the handle “T Dog.”
Previously, he has sexted under the pseudonym “Carlos Danger.”
The bombshell revelation came out Friday after FBI Director James Comey sent a letter to Congress explaining that new evidence in the Clinton investigation had emerged.
He said the new evidence developed as “part of an unrelated case,” without providing details.
Weiner could face 15 to 30 years in the slammer if found guilty of charges of sexual exploitation of children.
Weiner’s wife, Abedin, is Hillary Clinton’s closest aide and vice chair of her presidential campaign.
Abedin left the pervy pol soon after news of his teen sexting emerged.
Interim Democratic Party leader Donna Brazile tweeted, “Good grief,” after the news of the Weiner connection broke.  "Don't they know that Trump said pussy on the Howard Stern Show."
The Clinton campaign called the decision to revisit the case so close to the election “extraordinary,” and urged Comey to provide more details.

Feminism and the Art of War

Hillary will start a war. We are in five wars right now but you don't hear about it because the mainstream media and the neo cons and the conservative intelligentsia all cover it up and don't talk about the reckless escalation in Syria and Europe.

Add to that the moron feminists and pajama boys that Obama put in charge of the Pentagon want to put women in combat roles because of some misguided equal rights bullshit.

That is what you are going to get with Hillary. You are just never gonna hear the media talk about it. They are too busy talking about the fact that Trump said pussy once on Howard Stern.

The Kremlin Really Believes That Hillary Wants to Start a War With Russia

If Hillary Clinton is elected we will be in a shooting war with Russia in the first hundred days of her administration. The congressional investigations and FBI probes at various point on her corrupt carcass will force her to change the subject in a big way. Not an aspirin factory. A shooting war which most likely will start with a dogfight in Syria where by rights we don't have a dog in the fight. She will attempt to rally support and get the neocons and the old cold warriors on the Right to sign on to "support" the President in time of war.

From Foreign Policy Magazine:

"In a speech last month nominally about Donald Trump, Clinton calledRussian President Vladimir Putin the godfather of right-wing, extreme nationalism. To Kremlin-watchers, those were not random epithets. Two years earlier, in the most famous address of his career, Putin accused the West of backing an armed seizure of power in Ukraine by “extremists, nationalists, and right-wingers.” Clinton had not merely insulted Russia’s president: She had done so in his own words.

FBI Clinton emails investigation is back on

The FBI is probing new emails related to Hillary Clinton, FBI Director James Comey said in a Friday letter.

"In previous congressional testimony, I referred to the fact that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had completed its investigation of former Secretary Clinton's personal email server. Due to recent developments, I am writing to supplement my previous testimony," Comey wrote.

"Grifters-in-Chief"

In an election season that has been full of surprises, let’s hope the electorate understands that there is at least one thing of which it can be certain: A Hillary Clintonpresidency will be built, from the ground up, on self-dealing, crony favors, and an utter disregard for the law.

This isn’t a guess. It is spelled out, in black and white, in the latest bombshell revelation from WikiLeaks. It comes in the form of a memo written in 2011 by longtime Clinton errand boy Doug Band, who for years worked simultaneously at the Clinton Foundation and at the head of his lucrative consulting business, Teneo.

That time Gilbert Gottfried got Adam West to talk about an orgy

By Barbara Hoffman New York Post, Page Six October 28, 2016
“I’ve always been kind of an idiot savant,” Gilbert Gottfried tells The Post. “Well, more idiot than savant. I was one of those people who always remembered the names of character actors and makeup men.” That gift goes back to elementary school in Brooklyn, when his teacher threw out initials, asking students to name the celebrity — as in BH for Bob Hope. One day the initials were “OS,” and young Gilbert shrieked, “Onslow Stevens!”
“He was an old character actor,” says Gottfried, 61, “but everybody turned around and looked at me, like, ‘What the hell is he talking about?’ ”

WKRLEM: Tears of a Cuck

By Vox Day Vox Popoli Blog October 28, 2016

David French demonstrates that he definitely wasn't the man for the job as he cries about how mean the Alt-Right is to NPR, of all places:
In September or mid-September of last year, I had noticed that Ann Coulter, who is a very prominent supporter of Donald Trump, was tweeting out a lot of thoughts that are common to this part of the right - even though I hate to even call them part of the right, they call themselves part of the right - called the alt-right that were explicitly white nationalist in their tone and tenor. And so I wrote in our group blog on National Review called The Corner that Ann Coulter was deliberately appealing to these people. And I - and basically and politely said this is something that's inexcusable and it has no place in the conservative movement.

And then I had no idea what was about to happen next. My Twitter feed basically exploded. I have - did not have that many followers - in the thousands, certainly not like the more prominent folks in politics, but it was unbelievable. I began to see images, for example, of my youngest daughter, who we adopted from Ethiopia many years ago, who at the time was 7 years old - images of her in a gas chamber with a - Donald Trump in an SS uniform about to push the button to kill her. I saw images of her Photoshopped or, you know, artist's rendering of her face in slave fields.

I was called all manner of unbelievable names, which is kind of par for the course for Twitter, but among them was this term that has gained currency in recent years called cuckservatives. Cuckservative is somebody who's been cuckolded by the establishment, by the liberal elite. And then people began to refer to my wife as having sex with black men when I was deployed to Iraq in 2007, 2008. And it just descended from there. And that's a side of Twitter I know that others had experienced, but I had certainly never experienced it before. And then it just got worse.

GROSS: So this was all because you criticized Ann Coulter?

FRENCH: Yes, it was because I - not just criticized Ann Coulter. I mean, that happens all the time. I mean, she's a frequent target of criticism. It's because I criticized this group called the alt-right. It's - and for, you know, those who don't know what the alt-right is, it's a collection of mostly younger people who are rebelling against mainstream conservatism, rebelling against progressive liberalism and have really began to adopt white nationalism, white identity politics.
All I did was politely try to John Birch conservatism's most popular writer out of conservatism! And then they were mean to me! They sent me pictures!

bundys acquitted

B. Clinton / B. Cosby

Boy, it's been a decade and a half and I'm still discovering new things in Photoshop. Want to know what I learned today? Who wouldn't? Of course you do.

To do this blend thing, following a good deal of adjustments to one of the photos using various tools in their own window, up until today I would make copies of the phased in photo up a ladder of sorts in the window for layers. It is a stack of transparencies, then change the opacity incrementally. So the Cosby face layers over Clinton's background face will go something like 10%, 20% 30%, thereabouts or precisely to 100% opacity of Cosby face over Clinton face. Same with the "Hello Friends" sweatshirt. So the stack of transparencies then is quite large, a very tall ladder is what the layer window looks like. I have to scroll up and down the layer window to do things.

Then change all the layers into frames for an animated gif and then, by the same means, phase them  back to the original background. So that when the gif runs the images doesn't do something then jolt back to frame 1. You want it to run smoothly.

I leaned I don't have to do all that. I can use the same layer that changes and make copy the frames but change the % in the layer window. The frames advance but the layer does not. So for nine or so consecutive frames in the timeline window the single Cosby face layer window stays put, while it's % of opacity changes. That means, a lot more frames than layers. The frames advance while the single face layer changes it's assigned opacity. Cool, eh? And that keeps the ladder of transparency layers the height of a short stool and not the length of a fireman's ladder. See? The differences between frames and layers is finally sinking in more fully. It's taken me this long to discover this feature of Photoshop layers and the interaction between frames and layers. It is a splendid discovery.

Respect!

Had I taken a class, a course, or a seminar, this could have been explained to me early. But left on my own as I do then it's taken a very long time to discover. In another twenty years after I'm dead I just might just get this thing figured out reasonably well.

I'm sensing a slight flaw in my planning. My learning arc might be a little bit off. The moral of the story here is, um, eh, live and keep learning innit.

Come on. That's something.

Drunk student crashes into cop car while taking topless selfie: police

New York Post October 27, 2017

A 19-year-old Texas A&M University student taking a topless selfie while driving slammed into the rear of a stopped police car and was arrested, police said on Thursday.
The student, Miranda Rader, also had an open bottle of wine in a cup holder next to her, the Bryan Police Department said.
The accident on Wednesday, near the university about 100 miles northwest of Houston, caused the airbag to deploy. Police said that when the officer whose car had been hit approached Rader, she was trying to put on her blouse.
“I asked her why she was not dressed while driving and she stated she was taking a Snapchat photo to send to her boyfriend while she was at a red light,” the arresting officer wrote in an affidavit.

Rader did not respond to an email seeking comment.
She was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and released on a bond of $2,000, police said.

Mariah Carey reportedly dumped by billionaire fiancé

 New York Post Page S

Mariah Carey has been dumped by her billionaire fiancé, James Packer — who was sick of putting up with her “extravagant spending” and newfound love for reality TV, sources said.
The Australian casino mogul officially called it quits this week after being engaged to the singer for less than a year, according to Woman’s Day.
“It’s all over,” a family friend told the magazine.
“James had huge reservations about Mariah’s new reality TV show and the fact that she was willing to expose their lives to the world,” they said, adding that her spending sprees had also played a major role in the split.
“James is very generous, but Mariah takes it to the next level,” said another source.

SNL Black Jeopardy

I don't watch Saturday Night Live anymore even when it's brought to my attention but today this particular skit was pointed out three times. One of the times Gavin McInnes declares that this skit proves that America finally gets it. Gavin uses bits of the video below for his own video here to explain that he left Canada for the United States because in Canada there is an enduring and intolerable dispute about languages just to find that in America there is a huge and unnecessary dispute between races. But now this SNL skit with Tom Hanks as SNL's stereotypical white guy "Doug" means that Gavin's work here in America is done so now he, Gavin, can return to Canada.

Good, Gavin, go on then. See ya.

Also, this is an aside, I've read a lot online about Leslie Jones due to Milo Yiannopoulos' writing on Twitter about how bad her performance is in Ghost Busters and the avalanche of remarkably mean comments that piled on, such is the nature of Twitter, causing Twitter's SJW crew to blame Milo for them and to kick him off their platform. I read a lot about how terrible Leslie Jones is on SNL. A lot, actually.  I've only seen her on an Allstate advertisement and I liked her immediately. In the commercial her car breaks down, assistance arrives, she likes what the guy looks like and says a single word suggestively, "Hey," as a sexual come on, and I find that one little thing hilarious. She's my type of gal. I like her. We could be friends. She has the most minor part in this skit and I like her here too. I'm fairly certain I would like her in Ghost Busters too. I honestly don't know what people are complaining about.

And I also don't know what Gavin is talking about either. It's a good skit, yes. It really is amusing, and Tom Hanks is nearly unrecognizable. I must admit the guy really is a good actor, but Gavin is wrong in averring this skit proves anything beyond people are good sports. As to racial tensions, my entire everyday experience every single day is contrary to everything else that's brought to my attention through media and online. The exact same thing is true with millennials. The things that I read online are by college professors, they're describing activities of privileged youths at top tier universities and none of that matches up with what I encounter at street level interactions. Then comments to those pieces are nothing more than one generation disparaging another without taking into account the world that they, the complainers  are leaving them, those that must grow up in that world. I'm deeply impressed with young people, their enthusiasm, their energy, their sense of fun and their spirit and their courage in facing their challenges. The challenges we left for them. Now, this is separate from the topic of the video except for online reading and media presentation simply not matching personal experience. Here's two recent examples. Last week I went to Best Buy for the first time in over a decade and the whole place exceeded my expectation so that it blew my mind. A greeter is seated right at the front, a black woman greeted me so warmly I felt welcomed immediately, and upon leaving a few hours later a different black woman had taken her spot and gave such a gracious departing I was compelled to stop in my tracks to return it. And between them, the whole time I was there was an experience of mixture of  races and and ages of sales people so professional, so friendly and warm, so well trained that it exceeded all that I experienced at their age. Then just a few hours ago at night I was entering BurgerFi and the door pulled away from me as I entered, a young man rather short and much younger with a beard thicker than I can grow, stepped up his pace behind me to yank open the door out of my hands to assist me through the door not knowing that would throw me off balance, then apologized profusely, and unnecessarily. He worked there. Later I heard him say to a co-worker, "My first week here I worked seventy-five hours."

!

In my entire work history, I never worked that many hours in one week. I never pulled a double shift. The challenges these people face exceed anything that I ever faced and that was working full time and going to school part time that I thought was so tremendously challenging. I felt resentment. Their lives are entirely different than mine and I must admit they face their challenges with more éclat and with more joy and cheerfulness than I ever showed. Yes, I am impressed. I am impressed with race relations in this city and in this country despite our own government's activity in provoking disruption, and I am especially impressed with young people. They're better than I was at their age. I must acknowledge that. In so many ways they shame me by their example.

You've probably seen the clips of Newt Gingrich handing it to her. Link

That got me to wondering about Kelly the person. Sanctimony. So I googled "Megyn Kelly first husband" -- lo and behold, her first husband is not happy about her implying that he cheated on her -- on the air!

THE POST-TRUMP GOP

Unlike Steve, I’m convinced that, unfortunately, Hillary Clinton win will this election. Assuming she does, and that the race isn’t very close, what will happen to Trumpism?
To answer this question we must identify Trumpism’s main characteristics. In my view, there are five: (1) the unbridled egotism of its leader and his whiff of authoritarianism; (2) gratuitous nastiness; (3) a strong stance against illegal immigration; (4) intense skepticism about the the virtue of free trade; (5) an anti-interventionist foreign policy.
(I should note that the first two traits don’t sharply distinguish Trumpism from leaders of the Democrats. However, they have not characterized GOP leaders in the decades since Richard Nixon.)
Let’s consider whether the five defining features of Trumpism will prevail in a post-Trump GOP.

Dash it all Miss Monenpenny!

"Take it out James."
"What do you mean Moneypenny?"
"Take it out and put it in my hand. I will show you what I can do with it."
"Why would I do that?"
"Well during the Blitz I learned a lot of things."
"I bet you did."
"Yes quite. It was a hand to mouth existence. So to speak."
"I like how you think Moneypenny."

Eric Garner’s girlfriend asks for restraining order against his daughter

By Emily Saul New York Post October 25, 2016

The daughter of NYPD chokehold victim Eric Garner has been harassing her late father’s girlfriend on Facebook — repeatedly degrading her as a “side piece” and scaring the woman so much she’s asking a judge to issue a restraining order.

Garner’s former gal pal Jewel Miller, the mother of his 2 1/2 year old daughter, has been so frightened of Erica Garner’s social media comments that she even fears for the life of little Legacy — who was born after her father’s death in 2014.
“Who wanna slap jewel fa me?” Erica Garner wrote in one aggressive post. “… So if your [sic] reading this post and standing next to her smack the s— out of her and remind her she was a side piece and nothing more.”

It is a sick world out there and it is getting sicker.

Brad Pitt child abuse probe extended amid new allegations

The Brad Pitt child abuse investigation was extended Tuesday — and expanded to the actor’s entire family — after new accusations surfaced saying he was verbally abusive to Angelina Jolieand their children on numerous occasions.
Sources told InTouch magazine that the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Serviceshas decided to extend the probe in order to look into the allegations and determine whether there is a history of abuse in the Pitt-Jolie household.

brew bar

What happens when you combine roasted barley and black malt from one of Canada’s top craft brewers with rich European dark chocolate? A free chocolate bar for me, that’s what.

A friend went to Canada recently for a boat ride on the St. Lawrence left this chocolate bar with another friend to pass along to me and now I have a chocolate bar with roasted barley and malt.

Mmmm, chocolate malt. Now, this here's what you call expanding the flavor profile.

Needs chili powder.

And actually, dark chocolate is a preeminently American thing. Canadians know that. Europeans rightfully have the credit for conching chocolate, another process discovered by accident and by carelessness of not paying attention, and cannot have credit for chocolate itself. Chocolate is a New World food item. There was no chocolate for Europe until Europeans discovered America, and thought to themselves, you know with a little sugar (also from elsewhere) this awful stuff just might be tolerable.)

In August, he graduated to full-fledged mayhem, sparking a fire in the Sequoia National Forest that has already cost the government $61 million and left some of the country’s most beautiful landscape scarred for years to come.

Garcia, who pleaded guilty last month and faces 13 months in prison, had only recently been released from the Kern County Jail. He likely would have been deported again, but local authorities were unable to report him to immigration authorities because of California’s new sanctuary city law, which prohibited the sheriff from communicating with federal agents.

Federal agents now say they will kick Garcia out of the country once he serves his latest sentence, but the damage has already been done.

Brunnell Donald-Kyei, Vice-Chair of Diversity Outreach fo rht eNational Diversity Coalition for Donald Trump

I saw this video at the gateway pundit yesterday and thought it was sweet.

Maybe I meant fierce.

I'd say a screed like that comes from tremendous rumination. The whole time I was thinking, man, I cannot do that. I never have all my hundred ducks in a row and go bang, bang, bang, bang, through to the end killing every single duck like that. That takes practice.

And it's not even the best part of the post. Comments are excellent.

Oops. I thought that the next video was from this comment thread but I am mistaken. I don't see it there now. The next video was in comments to a post about more blacks voting for Trump than for any other Republican. That's probably because Trump is not a Republican, rather, Trump is the destroyer of Republicans as we know them. The commenter was so taken by the man in the video that he transcribed the whole thing. The man is not as he appears. His speaking is street level. And his speaking is a bit slow.  He's not speaking from script, he's organizing his thoughts as he goes. and it is rather long.

I enjoyed listening to this man very much. Were I with him then I'd just sit there and listen without interrupting. I am fascinated with his perceptions, with his values, and with his concerns. I like this man. You'll be surprised.

I'll pull it from YouTube history. If you have the time, I recommend this. 18min.

De Minnimis

Garrison Keillor doesn't care much for Bob Dylan nor for Donald Trump:
Bob is embarrassed by the prize. He’s from Minnesota, he has a conscience. He has written a few good love songs and some memorable phrases and the Swedes have embraced him as if he were Homer, which he is not. WaPo link
Keillor doesn't really write much about Trump and Minnesota -- instead he focusses on Iowa:
Mr. Trump is well-liked in Iowa. Des Moines would be a good place for him to show off his governing skills. He could deport the migrant workers who are employed in the slaughterhouses and he could get Iowa teenagers to take their place, bonking* hogs in the forehead and cutting their throats and gutting and skinning them.
Well, Mr. Woebegotten -- are you saying that the children are all above average, or just that the women are Hillary-strong?

What if Star Dates were like J Date?

"It is a custom in my country. Since you are the most beautiful woman on this wessal I gift you with my shaved pubic hair. You can weave into a hat. It is very varm."
"Why I never got any such gift. I mean I got some from Gene Roddenbury but I had to spit them out one at a time. Thank you very much."
"You varee velcome my nubian princess."

FBN panel laughs at Hillary Clinton introducing Al Gore as her future advisor

Wikileaks has already given proof to the bald-faced lie but Hillary voters disregard and deny Wikileaks so they don't count. CNN's Chris Cuomo, capable newsreader because ...  reasons, informs us to remember that it's illegal to possess these, uh, stolen documents.

"Facial expression tells a lot, does it not."

Yes, yes it does tell a lot. So does body expression. So does posture and so does cadence and inflection and enunciation.

That whole Evita Perón thing works better when you're actually glamorous. Margaret Hamilton doesn't cut it. Although there is no denying similarities.

It kills me how cartoonists always include the shoe. It's a thing that sticks in their minds.

Vatican Issues Decree on Burial, Cremation, Just Before ‘Month of the Dead’

by Thomas D. Williams PHD Breibart News October 25, 2016

The Vatican has published new guidelines regarding Catholic burial and cremation just in time for Halloween and the beginning of November—the “month of the dead.”

While expressing a preference for Christian burial, the new Instruction makes allowances for those who wish to be cremated, but specifies that their mortal remains cannot be scattered in the air or at sea, preserved in mementos, kept in the home or divided up among family members.
The norms issued by the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith are meant to uphold the importance of the body in Christian theology and to avoid “every appearance of pantheism, naturalism or nihilism” that can be associated with the scattering of ashes, the document states.
