Los Ciccones

Madonna offers Joe Blobs?

I hope she was being sardonic:

Herpetic lesions are nothing to smile about.

Wenis, the elbow

Speaking of Wenis, and I was, the pharaoh whose name is recognizable instantly by the desert hare, so you stop and look and sure enough the other glyphs prove it. There is next to the rabbit a zig-zag redundant "n," a plant frond, "i," and the folded linen "s."

There is also an English word, "wenis" that means the stretchy skin on the backside of the human elbow.

When I looked for the cartouche in Google images this photo of a teen came up. The original is yellow, I corrected it somewhat in Photoshop, but I wondered, what does this guy have to do with the pharaoh? And that one eye of his is rather like an Egyptian of a certain era might draw it. But his braces are what stick out in the photo while they don't interfere with his tendency to smile. And his eyes don't match. I clicked over still thinking about the pharaoh Wenis and still wondering how this photo connects. But it doesn't connect.

His mother writes a page about wenis the elbow skin, this is her son who taught her the word in the most amusing way imaginable.

But first she talks about the a book called the "five love languages" that I took for actual languages, imagining French, Spanish, whatever, but I was wrong. It's a book about psychology, children's psychology specifically and the author's five ways that children communicate love. She doesn't mention on her page, but those turn out to be

* receiving gifts
* quality of time
* words of affirmation
* acts of service (devotion)
* physical touch

The woman, Robin Dance, tells an hilarious story on her blog, The Wonder of a Woman. The sixteen or so comments to her story, mostly female, are just wonderful. For a change of pace, I urge you to skip over there and read Robin's story of how this young boy taught his mother a new word. Some things are just wrong. Very, very wrong ...

Make a large concrete pot.

What? You totally made that? This is one way to do it, and imaginative, you must admit, and fun. I'd want to stain it, or otherwise color it in some way, and I'd also want to seal it.

"U of T prof told to use gender pronouns students want"

The University of Toronto has slapped down a professor who openly criticized the use of gender-neutral pronouns and political correctness at the post-secondary institution.

Jordan Peterson, a psychology prof, was sent a letter Tuesday that told him that he must refer to students by whatever pronoun they wish — not just ‘he’ or ‘she’ — and that he must also refrain from making public statements on the topic.

“They had to make their decision whether they were going to make a stand for free speech or whether they were going to censor me and they’ve decided,” Peterson told the Toronto Sun Wednesday. “It’s unfortunate; I’m not happy about it; I’m disappointed.

“But it doesn’t surprise me because it is the fact that such things are happening that was the motivation for me to make the damn videos to begin with,” he said.

The professor published two YouTube videos on the topic of political correctness in response to the university’s plan to conduct anti-racism and anti-bias programs.

Cuomo signs anti consumer law

Gov. Cuomo declared war on Airbnb hosts Friday when he bowed to pressure from the hotel industry and signed one of the nation’s toughest laws regulating the home-sharing service — including steep fines just for advertising short-term rentals.

State law already bars apartment dwellers from renting their entire units for fewer than 30 days.

The new law — which carries fines of $1,000 to $7,500 simply for posting an available rental for any term short of 30 days — sent shock waves through the industry.

Expert reveals intriguing theory behind 250,000-year-old aluminum 'UFO part' that stunned alien hunters

Daily Mirror October 21, 2016 by Anthony Bond and Kara O'Neil
It is a mystery which is baffling experts and dividing opinion.
A piece of aluminium that looks as if it was handmade is being hailed as 250,000-year-old proof that aliens once visited Earth.
Metallic aluminum was not really produced by mankind until around 200 years ago, so the discovery of the large chunk in Romania that could be up to 250,000 years old is being held as a sensational find.
The details of the discovery were never made public at the time because it was pulled out of the earth in communist Romania in 1973.

The mystery of the Bermuda Triangle may finally be solved

By Corey Charlton, The Sun October 21, 2016
Strange clouds forming above the Bermuda Triangle could explain why dozens of ships and planes have mysteriously vanished in the notorious patch of sea.
The remarkable new theory suggests the clouds are linked to 170-mph “air bombs” — capable of bringing down planes and ships.
Now the riddle could finally be solved after meteorologists speaking to the Science Channel’s “What on Earth?” revealed their findings.
Using radar satellite imagery, they discovered bizarre “hexagonal”-shaped clouds between 20 and 50 miles wide forming over the dodgy patch of water.
Meteorologist Dr. Randy Cerveny said: “The satellite imagery is really bizarre … the hexagonal shapes of the cloud formations.

Anthem singer kneels during her performance at Heat game

  New York Post

MIAMI — A woman performing the national anthem before an NBA preseason game in Miami on Friday night did so while kneeling at midcourt, and opening her jacket to show a shirt with the phrase “Black Lives Matter.”
The singer was identified by the Heat as Denasia Lawrence. It was unclear if she remained in the arena after the performance, and messages left for her were not immediately returned.

Chilling CCTV footage shows Breaking Bad-obsessed crystal meth addict buying a bucket 'to fill with acid to dissolve the body the PC he murdered after meeting on Grindr'

  • Satanist is on trial for murdering policeman he met for sex on Grindr
  • Court has heard he attempted to dissolve victim's body in acid
  • Prosecutor reveals bloodstained chopsticks were found at his flat
  • Defendant claims PC was killed in a sex game which went wrong
Daily Mail By Richard Spillet October 21, 2016

CCTV footage shows a Breaking Bad-obsessed crystal meth addict buying a plastic bin which he allegedly used to dissolve the body of a policeman he met on Grindr.

Satanist Stefano Brizzi, 50, allegedly killed PC Gordon Semple, 59, after organising a drug-fuelled orgy on the gay dating site.

Jurors in his trial were today shown footage of him allegedly shopping for tools to help him dispose of the body, some of which was dissolved in acid and other parts of which may have been eaten, the court has heard.

Images from another camera shows PC Semple shortly before he is thought to have been strangled by Brizzi.

The court heard today that Brizzi had placed a leg in a roasting tin in the oven, and traces of PC Semple's DNA were also found on a set of chopsticks.
A bone believed to belong to the PC was found with a suspected bite mark in a kitchen bin, the prosecutor said.

DNA from the alleged victim was found on the blade of a blender, cooking pot, chopping board and grease in the oven of the Italian's kitchen, the Old Bailey heard.

steak

Does this look good?

This is how chefs cook a steak.

It takes the stovetop burner on high and the oven set to moderate heat, and a sturdy pan.

Have the steaks at room temperature.

Salt and pepper them if you like. Set the steaks into the pan without any oil and sear on one side, rocket hot for about one and half minutes. It will smoke up the place dramatically. You can see the  cooked portion creep up the side as it sears violently. Flip it when the cooked portion reaches 1/4 the way through.

Cook the second side even less. Way less. Merely start to sear it.  Because the pan is still very hot, and set it into the oven to finish.

For only a few minutes, say, two minutes. It's still sizzling inside the oven.

Bring out the pan and cover with a lid or with aluminum foil for a mere few minutes more to rest with no heat and, boom, you're eating your steak.

This is what chefs do in restaurants.

Need a smile today? Something a little bit different?

Apologies for stepping on Lem's post below. Consider this adjunct to it, please.

Small Dead Animals, that awful website up north, kidding!, ran a link to CTV News Regina website that ran a poll yesterday, now closed for a different poll. Apparently they have a new poll each day. So, it's not possible to participate any longer. Still the results are interesting.

The question was, "If you could cast a ballot in the U.S. presidential race, who would you vote for?"

At the time that Kate posted her link to the Regina website poll the tally was Hillary 32, Donald 24.

Kate's comment section brings us forward to how the poll developed.

Podesta: illegals vote

Der Trick Ist Verloren

Overheard at Althouse and updated for urgency:
Hillary's only trick is to appear inevitable. That doesn't draw voters to the polls, but it attracts donors and discourages the other guy's donors. Her message during the primaries was not a counter to Sanders message, it was "I have already won." Breaking that idea is how Obama won against her in 2008. The only way Trump can win is to break the idea that Hillary is inevitable. He has fourteen three weeks. link
Can someone please explain how Electoral College voters are polled?

I'm not referring to civics lessons but rather, to how polls of EC members are cited in the press.

45% of the Republican Grass Roots have the election figured out ....and it just pisses off the establishment and their media lapdogs.

Poll: 45% of Republicans say they’re unlikely to, or definitely won’t, accept the election result if Trump loses

POSTED AT  Hotair 6:41 PM ON OCTOBER 21, 2016 BY ALLAHPUNDIT

This is a problem for the GOP long-term and for Trump in the short-term.
Why is it a problem for Trump? Because there’s evidence that the more people are convinced that their political system is corrupt, the less likely they are to vote. Trump is out there every day telling his fans that the election is rigged, sometimes in terms of the media being in the tank for Hillary but in other cases in terms of actual cheating at the polls. I’d bet cash money that Kellyanne Conway has asked him privately to tone that down, not just because it’ll make it harder to put the party back together after the election but because she knows he’s inadvertently suppressing his own turnout. To have any chance at an upset, Trump needs working-class whites who typically don’t vote in elections — “undercover Trump voters” — to feel it’s worth their time to turn out next month. If instead they’re now convinced that the election’s rigged, guess what happens to turnout?

Sofía Vergara helped Ariel Winter embrace her curves!

New York Post By Jessica Sager Page Six October 21, 2016

Ariel Winter relied on her “Modern Family” to embrace her curves.
“When I was 11 years old and started the show I was completely flat,” Winter, 18, told Amazon’s “Style Code Live” on Thursday. “I always wanted to have boobs, to have a butt and curves, and it seemed like I would never get them … and then overnight I turned 12 years old and it was like everything was different and I had the boobs I wanted.”
Unfortunately, she got more than she asked for, eventually going on to get a breast reduction and flaunting the results all over social media.

"Study Finds Racial Bias In Facial Recognition Software Used By Police"

Earlier this week, the Centre of Privacy and Technology at Georgetown Law released a study  examining facial recognition technology used by police departments across the country, which is unregulated. While the report has a total of 11 “key findings,” one in particular is getting the most attention: “Police face recognition will disproportionately affect African Americans.” While this doesn’t necessarily suggest a conscious racial bias by the developers of the software, there are a number of factors at work that may lead facial recognition programs being flawed in identifying black men and women.

There have long been studies about “cross-racial identification” being less reliable than someone distinguishing facial features among someone of their own ethnic group. Facial recognition systems are still designed by humans, after all, so the “training” of those systems can be flawed. The final match after a facial recognition system turns up possible matches is left to a human operator much of the time, so even if the software is working the way it should, there’s plenty of room for human bias. Two different facial recognition companies interviewed for the study admitted that their software had not been tested for racial bias.

hillary's 12 million morocco fiasco

Hillary Clinton solicited a $12 million donation from a government that her State Department considered corrupt, then realized the “mess” it would cause to her presidential run, a newly leaked email reveals.

King Mohammed VI of Morocco agreed to give the money to the Clinton Foundation, provided that it hold a convention in his country in May 2015 with Clinton as the keynote speaker.

But Clinton realized that the conference, slated for a month after she announced her run for president, would hurt her candidacy.

"Wynn: Printing Money Degrades Living Standard"

"We take in $3.1 trillion and we spend $3.7 trillion," Wynn said Thursday to guest host Eric Bolling. "And that $600 billion deficit is at the rate of $50 billion a month. Our government is printing money and it's degrading the living standard of every person in America. It's the cause of frustration, anger and confusion. I was disappointed we didn't get in a real substantive conversation about that last night."

Germany has turned into Canarsie.

Germans Are Leaving Germany 'In Droves'

  • More than 1.5 million Germans, many of them highly educated, left Germany during the past decade. — Die Welt.
  • Germany is facing a spike in migrant crime, including an epidemic of rapes and sexual assaults. Mass migration is also accelerating the Islamization of Germany. Many Germans appear to be losing hope about the future direction of their country.
  • "We refugees... do not want to live in the same country with you. You can, and I think you should, leave Germany. And please take Saxony and the Alternative for Germany (AfD) with you.... Why do you not go to another country? We are sick of you!" — Aras Bacho an 18-year-old Syrian migrant, in Der Freitag, October 2016.
  • A real estate agent in a town near Lake Balaton, a popular tourist destination in western Hungary, said that 80% of the Germans relocating there cite the migration crisis as the main reason for their desire to leave Germany.
  • "I believe that Islam does not belong to Germany. I regard it as a foreign entity which has brought the West more problems than benefits. In my opinion, many followers of this religion are rude, demanding and despise Germany." — A German citizen who emigrated from Germany, in an "Open Letter to the German Government."
  • "I believe that immigration is producing major and irreversible changes in German society. I am angry that this is happening without the direct approval of German citizens. ... I believe that it is a shame that in Germany Jews must again be afraid to be Jews." — A German citizen who emigrated from Germany, in an "Open Letter to the German Government."
  • "My husband sometimes says he has the feeling that we are now the largest minority with no lobby. For each group there is an institution, a location, a public interest, but for us, a heterosexual married couple with two children, not unemployed, neither handicapped nor Islamic, for people like us there is no longer any interest." — "Anna," in a letter to the Mayor of Munich about her decision to move her family out of the city because migrants were making her life there impossible.
A growing number of Germans are abandoning neighborhoods in which they have lived all their lives, and others are leaving Germany for good, as mass immigration transforms parts of the country beyond recognition.
Data from the German statistics agency, Destatis, shows that 138,000 Germans left Germany in 2015. More are expected to emigrate in 2016. In a story on brain drain titled, "German talent is leaving the country in droves," Die Welt reported that more than 1.5 million Germans, many of them highly educated, left Germany during the past decade.
The statistics do not give a reason why Germans are emigrating, but anecdotal evidence indicates that many are waking up to the true cost — financial, social and cultural — of Chancellor Angela Merkel's decision to allow more than one million mostly Muslim migrants to enter the country in 2015. At least 300,000 more migrants are expected to arrive in Germany in 2016, according to Frank-Jürgen Weise, the head of the country's migration office, BAMF.
Mass migration has — among many other problems — contributed to a growing sense of insecurity in Germany, which is facing a spike in migrant crime, including an epidemic of rapes and sexual assaults. Mass migration is also accelerating the Islamization of Germany. Many Germans appear to be losing hope about the future direction of their country.

A failed and fearful establishment

by Vox Day October 21, 2016

Pat Buchanan observes that the Establishment is terrified. And rightly so:
What explains the hysteria of the establishment?

In a word, fear.

The establishment is horrified at the Donald’s defiance because, deep within its soul, it fears that the people for whom Trump speaks no longer accept its political legitimacy or moral authority.

It may rule and run the country, and may rig the system through mass immigration and a mammoth welfare state so that Middle America is never again able to elect one of its own. But that establishment, disconnected from the people it rules, senses, rightly, that it is unloved and even detested.

Having fixed the future, the establishment finds half of the country looking upon it with the same sullen contempt that our Founding Fathers came to look upon the overlords Parliament sent to rule them.

Establishment panic is traceable to another fear: Its ideology, its political religion, is seen by growing millions as a golden calf, a 20th-century god that has failed.
They should be afraid. From America to New Zealand, they have gradually backed the people of the West into a corner from which there is only one way out. We do not accept their legitimacy. We do not accept their authority, moral or otherwise. They have lost the Mandate of Heaven.

Soon the hour will be upon us. Given the growing fear of the Establishment, they will probably strike first. And, in doing so, they will spark the very revolution that terrifies them.

Donald Trump is not the savior. Donald Trump is not the movement. Donald Trump is the warning. It makes very little difference if he is elected or not. Because, as Mike Cernovich points out in the bestselling MAGA MINDSET, Trump is merely the symbol of the moment. There will be more to come.

(I think this is exactly right. Trump is just another spot on the continuum that started with the Tea Party and continued with Sarah Palin and moved on to Trump. All of them attacked viciously by the Rhinos and the conservative establishment. There is much more to come. More radical. More vociferous. More confrontational  and in your face. You can't put the GOP Humpty Dumpty back together again.

I think the idea of the establishment striking first is right on the money. If Hillary wins she will attempt something that could spark it off. An  executive order to seize guns the way they did in Australia for example. That is just the spark that could start the fire. The only way to avoid it is if Trump is elected and stops the slide. The establishment should hope that happens. Because they are really not going to like what happens next)

Master Craftsman - Korean Pottery

I've been watching a lot of ceramic pottery videos between the political things that I'm directed to. If you saw my YouTube history you'd think, "Jeeze, this guy's some kind of serious nutter." But there you go. I suppose that I am.

I believe this is a worthy hobby. One that would take a good deal of time and patience to master. I think of it as a language, oddly, one that you speak to yourself.

This video has no words. The sound is piano music all the way through. Nobody explains anything. You just watch and be amazed. Each Korean master has developed his own style, although they're all complex. I like especially how designs are scratched in then painted over with mineral slip, then carefully scrapped off so that pin point legs and beaks of storks turn out black. I find all this remarkable. And at the same time discouraging. And the same time encouraging because it shows what you can get up to yourself by adapting their technique if not their style, their subject or their level of mastery.

Others dig holes all the way through, and I wonder, what's the point of a vase that cannot hold water? It cannot be used as a vase.

I've watched African women make jars and pots by the most rudimentary methods imaginable. No potter's wheel, no kiln, no nothing. I've watched Iranian women making pots similarly. With little children all around, curious and interfering. I'd like to share some of what I've found with you. Who knows? It might encourage a new interest. A new language. This one of Korean masters is one of the best. The video shows the whole thing except the very beginning of the process of throwing the jars on a potter's wheel or building them up by coiling and pinching, rather essential steps left out.

I should mentions, to avoid the ad, refresh your browser and sometimes it goes away. It does on mine.

There is another Korean video that I like that is more of an artist's biography, a bit heavy on his own psychology and mental attitude as it changed over time. He makes huge jugs used for fermented food, kimchi and soy and such, at the end of it he slaps glaze like a dancer or a warrior, like Jackson Pollock, and slaps look fantastic and you want him to stop with the outrageous and violent and carefree splashes, but instead he continues and spreads it all and mixes it and I go, aw, damn, there went the fantastic marks. The he flicks glaze again, and it's wild again as it was at the beginning but less so, and I go, great! Stop here! Stop! Stop! But he doesn't, he blends again, and I go, aw damn, again. But that is his style. That is his technique, and that is his desired result. But I can imagine myself doing that same thing. And it's fun imagining that. Fun enough to want to actually do it. And we can!

Lee Kang-hyo's coils are huge. He drapes them over his shoulder. The African women's coils are short, so short that in one of African tribe the woman's coils are described as sausages.

The African women live in abject poverty. All the different states and tribes have their own technique. Their wheel is a curved broken pot shard. Most move their bodies around the stationary piece rather than spin the piece as a wheel. One of them late in the video was mentioned to have have been asked to demonstrate her technique in the far East. So they flew her Air France and set her up in a high class hotel. She demonstrated her African technique then went home, back to her simple set life and her poverty. The objects shown at the end are real African art and not the everyday pots shown throughout the video. That video shows what one could do immediately in their first try. African Pottery, Forming and Firing. They're making stoneware, I think, that's fired at lower temperature to be used in open flame without breaking. They don't want to use a kiln that fires at higher temperature and uses a lot more energy. They're waterproofed by dipping in a kind of soup that they prepare, while red hot directly from their bonfire, that changes the iron inside the clay from one form to another form. All very primitive at each step of the process. It makes you want to go there and buy one.

Chris Wallace to Donald Trump, "You've said things that are just not true."

Wallace, "In the last debate you claimed that Aleppo has basically fallen, which is inaccurate."

Trump, "Look, you stupid weaseling little ignorant dope, (sniff) there's a big fat difference between still being there, still being bombed and and still being cleared out (sniff) contrasted with usefulness as base of operation for Syrian rebels (sniff). Aleppo has fallen as base of operation."

Wallace, "Syria and Russia are not busy fighting ISIS, they're bombing eastern Aleppo. Would you like to clear that up?"

Trump, "Look, Stupid, first, this is the reason why children of proper journalists don't automatically make good journalists themselves. Journalism should not be treated like some medieval guild and that's why you are not respected. I already answered that, you dope.  Aleppo is useless. It's fallen. People actually lived through the bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki and Okinawa and Tokyo, and Berlin, and Dresden, as these places were falling, and throughout even after they fell, people survived there even as they cities were destroyed and made useless for military operations. What's wrong with you? There's a difference between fallen for military use and depopulation."

Wait.

I think I might have changed what Trump said. It's coming back to me now. Apologies. Trump actually said, "Aleppo is a nightmare and the U.S. shouldn't be trusting rebels they cannot identify."

The NFL should be ashamed.....and put out of business by the fans who used to support them. Here's another reason why.

Wheelchair-bound teen shames anthem protesters

New York Post By Chris Perez October 19, 2016

A Florida teenager with spina bifida was caught on camera shaming athletes who sit for the national anthem — using his arms to proudly “stand” from his wheelchair as the American flag passed by him during a parade.
Arek Trenholm, 16, has become a social media sensation after his uncle Myron Leggett, a professional photographer, snapped a picture of the patriotic act and posted it to his Facebook page on Oct. 14.
The image shows the teen pushing himself up on his own at a local high school’s homecoming parade as the junior ROTC color guard approaches with the Stars and Stripes.
“To all of ‘Those’ that refuse to stand for the Flag of the United States of America…this is my nephew Arek Trenholm, he has “spina bifida” he used his arms to ‘STAND’ from his wheelchair as our Flag passed by!!” Leggett wrote in the description of the photo, which has been shared more than 500 times on Facebook.
“He will never be able to ‘play’ football, if he could, he would ‘Stand’ as the flag passed or when the ‘National Anthem’ is played. Take a lesson!”

"Trump Refuses to Say Whether He'll Accept Election Results"

"I will tell you at the time," said Trump, who has frequently discussed voter fraud and a "rigged" system.

"I'll keep you in suspense, OK?" Trump told debate moderator Chris Wallace.

Hillary Clinton responded, "That's horrifying."

"She's guilty of a very, very serious crime," he said of Clinton. "She should not be allowed to run. And just in that respect, I say it's rigged."

soup for the soul (any kind will do)

I sense a disturbance in the force. A tremendous category eight shakedown, actually. Have yourself a bowl of soup.

Feel free to leave your impressions of the final presidential debate in comments.

But first, a personal anecdote.

My dad was never any kind of cook at all. Never. For all his astounding abilities, he couldn't cook his way out of a paper bag. That doesn't mean that left on his own that he'd have died of starvation, no, it just means that he hadn't a clue what he was doing nor where to start.

He tried. And he tried largely too. He tried several times to make soup and failed miserably each time. He would see bags of root vegetables marked "for soup" and imagine that's all there is to it. He boiled the vegetables to softness and imagined that was all there was to it. He made the worst and most watery soup ever. Gallons of it at each time. It languished in the freezer for months. There was no way to fix it except by starting over.

Finally, at length, after leaving home and suffering his parsnip-water soup throughout my entire childhood I told him, "You start out with stock, either make it or buy it." And he asked me, "What is stock?"

What follows are photos of soup from one of my other sites. I queried "soup" and "broth" and "stew" and "miso." These are the results. The files were run through a photo duplicate cleaner application so there should be no duplications. There's a little over a hundred ideas for soup.

I was watching this on Youtube on my phone while getting a pedicure tonight!

Hello........Is Meyer home?

So I was away for two weeks in Florida and decided to do some research to help me in one of my books that I am trying to finally finish. I decided to stop by Meyer Lansky's house. I rang the bell and asked if I could speak to him.

He is dead you know.

They were not amused.

"Soros-Connected Company Provides Voting Machines In 16 States "

The Smartmatic, a U.K.-based voting technology company with deep ties to George Soros, has control over voting machines in 16 states including battleground zones like Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Other jurisdictions affected are California, District of Columbia, Illinois, Louisiana, Missouri, New Jersey, Oregon, Washington and Wisconsin.

Its website includes a flow-chart that describes how the company has contributed to elections in the U.S. from 2006-2015 with “57,000 voting and counting machines deployed” and “35 million voters assisted.”

In 2005, Smartmatic bought-out California-based Sequoia Voting Systems and entered the world of U.S. elections.

Hillary demonstrates to her supporters that her temperament is unsteady and makes her unfit for office.

Hillary does not allow cell phones or cameras around her so unfortunately there is no video proof. Just the word of a person present with her campaign following the Lauer interview.

The video is about Hillary blowing her top, coming unglued, having a massive meltdown, blowing her gasket, losing her mind, beside herself, going through the roof, seeing red, shooting arrows, losing her mind, spilling her marbles, coming down like a ton of bricks, going apeshit crazy, and behaving extremely unseemly.

And who doesn't want to hear about that?

Is is better to live in a corner of the roof than in a house shared with a contentious woman.
Proverbs 25:25

The roofs being flat, the climate being somewhat hot, the age having no air conditioning, entire families slept on their roof in summers. So it's not that bad really, but point taken.

Imagine that, religious people with a sense of humor.

That biblical quote at the end of the video bothered me. I'm sometimes easily bothered in strange ways that are hard to explain. The quote is funny. And it isn't a single bit funny.

Actually the bible has quite a lot of rotten things to say about women. We can blame that on its collators, they were straight up misogynists themselves. They left out the codex attributed to Mary Magdalene, The Gospel of Mary.

Too gnostic to suit them.  Here, PBS primary sources.

We all know that Hillary is a freak and there is nothing more to understand there.

Let's take a brief digression from hateful, insane, bizarre politics of the truly deranged power obsessed that does not match our personal day to day experiences. People are not like this.

Okay?

The text of the Gospel of Mary is written on papyrus and bound in a codex, an ancient book, not a scroll, and it includes other things. It was stuffed into a clay jar and hidden for eternity. Until eternity was short circuited in the late nineteenth century and discovered in Akhmim, Egypt and sold to a German scholar.  The text also contains the Apocryphon of John (secret writing) and the Sophia of Jesus Christ. (Sophia meaning "divine wisdom.")

It doesn't sound like the demure, repentant and humble, shy Mary at all, not as we know her. The papyrus has her interrogating Jesus as religious scholar herself. It is pure gnosticism. It was written in Coptic sometime in the fourth century and the writing is based on previous writing in Greek during the second century. It sounds like somebody is putting words into Mary's mouth for added intimate authority. On the other hand, it's entirely possible. Mary actually headed her own corps of women apostles. Jesus was an early feminist, and this caused a good deal of disruption during his life and was basically cut out nearly entirely later. So it's possible the text is based on what Mary actually taught. It could happen.

Here is the whole text, the portions that survived.

This is the portion cited all over the place showing how gnostic the whole thing is. Chapter 5, paragraph 8.
8) And she began to speak to them these words: I, she said, I saw the Lord in a vision and I said to Him, Lord I saw you today in a vision. He answered and said to me,
9) Blessed are you that you did not waver at the sight of Me. For where the mind is there is the treasure.
10) I said to Him, Lord, how does he who sees the vision see it, through the soul or through the spirit?
11) The Savior answered and said, He does not see through the soul nor through the spirit, but the mind that is between the two that is what sees the vision and it is [...]
(pages 11 - 14 are missing from the manuscript)
Good stuff. But left out. And left out because Jesus' followers just couldn't get it through their thick heads that women are equal to men. And because the text is clearly gnostic.

So that's that. One thing showing how terrible things were for women historically. It's there in the text, and it's there in how the text was handled.

But back to the crap in the bible that shows how horribly women were treated we could go on for a very long time. Here's just a few.

Submission, Ephesians 5:22-24 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

Sleeping with women is dirty, Revelation 14:3-4 No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. 4 These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they remained virgins. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among mankind and offered as first-fruits to God and the Lamb.

Seen but not heard, Corinthians 14:34 Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says.

Twice as unclean after giving birth to a girl than they are after birthing a boy, Leviticus 12: 18, A woman who becomes pregnant and gives birth to a son will be ceremonially unclean for seven days, just as she is unclean during her monthly period. ‘ 3 On the eighth day the boy is to be circumcised. 4 Then the woman must wait thirty-three days to be purified from her bleeding. She must not touch anything sacred or go to the sanctuary until the days of her purification are over. 5 If she gives birth to a daughter, for two weeks the woman will be unclean, as during her period. Then she must wait sixty-six days to be purified from her bleeding. 6 ” ‘When the days of her purification for a son or daughter are over, she is to bring to the priest at the entrance to the tent of meeting a year-old lamb for a burnt offering and a young pigeon or a dove for a sin offering.

There's more.

* Wives are a man's property, Exodus 20:17

* A daughter raped can be sold to her rapist, Deuteronomy 22:28-29

* Only virgins are taken as spoils of war, Deuteronomy 22:20-21

* Her promise is good only if her father or husband agrees Numbers 30:1-16

There's a lot more than this, just as bad. So much more. Here's more.

Here, Google search [biblical passages about women]. To be fair, though, there are a lot of uplifting things too.

Lots of stuff on submission. Gross out about menstruating, used brides deserving death, daughters bought and sold, women being created for men. Both before the gospel of the good news that we are all sons and daughters of divinity, and immediately after Jesus' death. Everything Jesus taught about women went in one ear and out the other. It was just impossible to internalize, so it wasn't. Even his own male disciples could not comprehend the whole of it, and live by it. The whole bible is basically discouraging on the subject of women. So why this guy now chooses to quote biblical text at the end of his video is beyond me.The bible has a very poor and inconsistent record in regard to women.  It does not contribute to the point that the video guy drives, that by Hillary's own statements on temperament for high office, that she is perfectly unfit herself, and that is the result of her own personality and her insane ambition and not because she is female. The biblical quote at the end is a joke that lowers both women and the bible.

Whose that author?

This time, the plane landed with only a couple of slight bumps and came to a halt where and when and in the manner it was supposed to. Gretchen was still relieved when the plane finally came to a stop. Even the short period when it was driving across the tarmac on wheels under its own power made her nervous. For some reason, Eddie called it “taxiing” even though the exercise had no relationship Gretchen could determine with the famous postal service of Thurn and Taxis.
She hadn’t like flying the first time she did it, she hadn’t liked it this time, and she didn’t imagine she ever would.
That said, they had gotten from Dresden to Magdeburg in about an hour. It would have taken her several days on horseback and longer if she’d walked.
“Thank you,” she said politely, after Junker helped her to the ground. “The trip was very… uneventful.”
Eddie grinned. “Not pleasant, though, I take it.”
She shook her head. “I don’t think I will ever…” She broke off, seeing what looked like a small mob headed in their direction.
“What’s this?” she wondered.
“Your greeting, I imagine.”
Gretchen frowned. “Why are this many people coming to meet me?”
Eddie studied her for a moment, with a quizzical expression on his face. Then he grinned again. “I will say this, Gretchen Richter. It is perhaps the most reassuring thing about you that you really don’t know the answer to that question.”
Her frown deepened. “That makes no sense at all.”
