WKRLEM: The dogs bark but the caravan moves on......

Van was already starting to paunch up but his pipes were at their finest. His best performance.

This one is my favorite Van Morrison. It's from 1966, and he had already "paunched up." Was he ever lean and mean?

Beck sampled that same "underwater, shimmery sound" for his 1994 hit Jackass

I didn't watch the video because I saw the movie in a theater a long time ago and I remember Robbie Robertson getting too close to Van Morrison (as if to strike a pose for the camera) and Van Morrison kind of giving him the brush off, like, get the hell away from me.

I cherish the memory and I don't want to watch the video and see that I completely misremembered the whole thing. Maybe even made it up in my head without knowing it.

It's happened too many times before, and I need to hang onto that one.

Astral Weeks has been a sentimental favorite of mine for decades. Loved almost everything about it, but the drumming grabbed me especially. And I've been listening to a lot of Modern Jazz Quartet, lately. A lot. And when I say a lot, I mean a whole lot. And I really love the drumming.

Anyway, I found out just yesterday that the drummer on Astral Weeks was Connie Kay.

Weird.
