"Dearborn, top Arab-American U.S. city, just voted for Donald Trump, Jewish candidate Bernie Sanders"

The Week: The Michigan electorate was full of surprises on Tuesday. The biggest was Sen. Bernie Sanders' upset win over Hillary Clinton, but there were also some interesting results from the city of Dearborn, the "Arab capital of North America," with about 41 percent of the city claiming Arab ancestry. Dearborn houses the Arab American National Museum and several large mosques — unlike the Chaldean Christian Arab community in nearby Sterling Heights, "the Dearborn community is overwhelmingly Muslim," says Michigan Radio. And Dearborn Republicans voted for Donald Trump, the candidate pledging to close U.S. borders to Muslims, 39 percent to 30 percent for nearest competitor John Kasich.

Dearborn Democrats, meanwhile, picked Sanders, 59 percent to 39 percent for Clinton.

I doubt that many Dearborn Arab-Americans are Republicans.

Oops, I'm sorry. Damned facts keep harshing my mellow.

But, if they were, why would being the Muslim favorite be a good thing?

Dearbonistan. Voting for their survival. Go figure.

I have relatives who have lived in Michigan for generations and they are seeing the death of their State and their culture with the massive invasion of Muslims.....and....they don't like it.

But we're not being blown up by foreigners - we're being drained of life by Americans. Americans who want guarantees and protection from hard work, competition, having to learn or pay for things, having to take responsibility, pay their fair share into the kitty, and having to make sacrifices like those Americans did who got us to this seat at the top of the world's prosperity, where many of us think we deserve to stay without our own effort or a fight.

I certainly can't disagree with that. Too many takers and not enough makers.

I guess all the A-rabs went with Bernie and what Americans are left went with Trump.

Bernie got a lot of black votes, too. Looks like that African vote may be up for grabs, after all, they sure don't like Hillary.

PS The article says Mrs Fiorina, whom many accused to be a pro-Arab sellout, endorsed Cruz. Interesting.

Trump's appeal and his campaign is mostly about stuff that's not really what's killing us. What's killing us is sloth, and entitlement mentality. He's feeding on that just like Democrats always have, but his packaging is so different that people think it's something else. It's not just Dems who think they are entitled and want the government to save them no matter what it cost the rest of America. For example: Tariffs to save your job is just a tax on every other American so you get what you want even if it's not sustainable.

Trump reminds me of homeopathy. Nothing in there, but the claims are yuuuge. People buy it up because they prefer to believe the claims rather than the truth which is that there is no free lunch. If you've ever tried to talk someone out of homeopathy once they believe, then you know how I feel right about now.

Trump doesn't even talk about our real problems. He doesn't have to - he found the soft spots.

Good one.

As I detect some very sour grapes, should we start asking, similar to April over the weekend, if the anti-Donalds will support the nominee?

Kidding, because next week is the real crunch (is Rubio still in BTW?), a big test of who looks good in the must-have states.

PS Interesting post by Don Surber. You may not go with his theory (I'm a little iffy), but it's an alternative view (to some) from a man who freely admits he wishes there were other choices.

bagoh20 said...

"...if the anti-Donalds will support the nominee?"

It's gonna be very hard. I don't want to be responsible for the consequences, especially when I strongly believe he's a mistake. I don't want to have to resort to: "It would have been worse with Clinton", which might get laughable if he's as bad at government as he is at business.

I'm seriously torn. Unfortunately, if Trump wins, I will not get any of satisfaction of seeing the Dems and especially Hillary lose. It will be like in the horror films when the monster gets killed, but rises again at the end to set up the sequel.

But maybe, like in the Terminator, he'll turn into a good guy. Yep, that's the ticket. Go Trump!

Kell Sir Prize.

This assumes they're that well-organized.

I'm a closed primary guy BTW, but, of course, that sort of thing cuts both ways. Remember Operation Chaos 8 years ago? And those people were told to register as Demos, too.

Right now, the Hildabeast is losing votes she isn't supposed to be losing to a guy that isn't supposed to be getting them.

Youse stupid Trumpers. Don't you see that when Trump gets the votes of Democrats or Muslims or blacks or Hispanics that it is terrible.....horribly wrong....how can he appeal to these people and why would they vote for him....so getting their votes is horrible because....errr....give me a minute.

We need to have only closed primaries where only certified homogenized pasteurized organic Republicans can vote because that is how the general election will be decided.

NBC/WSJ poll: Clinton, Sanders demolish Trump in general election

"Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders would handily defeat Donald Trump in a general election match-up, while a clash between Clinton and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz or Florida Sen. Marco Rubio would be a toss-up, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll."

edutcher said...

Depends on the poll.

RCP had him beating the Hildabeast a few weeks ago, but, OK, you wanna play that game?

How in Hell does the One True Ted do any better?

He can't win the South (which is vital) and we're about to find out how he'd do in the Midwest and Northeast (hint: outside the Bible Belt it's pretty hit-and-miss) - he got his clock cleaned in MI, didn't he, and it looks no better a week out in FL and OH, 2 states the Rs have to take?

I just don't understand why the Cruz voters can't just crush the Donald. I mean Cruz is a real republican. He is the true embodiment of conservative principles. When the primary only allows true Republicans to vote he wins every time.

Then those nasty white working class populist losers will not get in our way.

They should've polled a Kasich/Fiorina ticket. As I'm sure you know, RCP poll has Kasich as the biggest Hillary beater.

edutcher said...

FWIW, the story goes there's conflict in the Rubio camp over whether he should stay until the FL primary just so he can get creamed (no pun) by The Donald.

Marco is looking to run for governor (apparently he's figured he has no future in the Senate, like another first termer) and his handlers wonder how that would be affected by a blowout loss.

And, if Kasich has the best shot at the Hildabeast, it just shows how reliable those MSLSD polls are.

bagoh20 said...

I don't know - maybe they just asked the people who will vote in the general.

The polls have been pretty accurate in regards to Trump, and we all know how everybody loves those polls until they don't say what you want, then suddenly they're shit. It's almost like the truth isn't what matters unless it's pro-Trump.

They have? Last I looked, Trump didn't have a prayer of winning a single primary. Of course, my motto's been "Believe it when you see it" all along. Unless you really think Kasich or Rubio had a better shot at hillary.

But "I don't know" doesn't give one much faith in the One True Ted, now does it?

Unless the whole object of the exercise is not so much winning, or even belief in the One True Ted, as, "I hate Trump because he once said something nice about Hillary".

edutcher said...

Forgive me, but we've been looking at him go after "his long-time politically like-minded friend Hillary" (a crock if ever there was one) for several months now.

And, for right now, it seems to have obviated the need for Mrs Fiorina to go after Hillary to blunt the War on Women gambit. He's done quite well all by himself.

bagoh20 said...

I predict that Trump will not win the primary in California. More likely Cruz will appeal to the more moderately conservative traditional voting Republican. More like the Republicans in Southern California and the Orange County types.

However, I expect Trump to do very well in our particular area. It won't matter though because we are such a small percentage of the voting population.

Trooper York said...

Don't worry Amartel. Insulting Trump fans is the best thing you can do. In fact most of the pundit class and the Republican party think that is the way to win. Not to work with someone who has won primary after primary. Because there is always some reason why that is not true. He mean he won. But he didn't win/win. Because Democrats crossed over. Because he won by a smaller margin then some poll from six months ago. None of it counts.

We need to make someone else the nominee. Not someone that went through the primary process.

So lets take it out in our small hands and piss all over the fools that voted for Trump.

They are just not worthy.

Most Republicans wont because they were full partners in passing that crap.

Hmmm, funny how none of the Cruz people will answer anything negative about their boy.

The campaign feeds them the tactics - insult, attack, misrepresent, ignore any charges against Ted.

Well, anybody low enough to send out emails saying one of his opponents dropped out of the race (even Hillary hasn't gotten that low) is probably the last (well, next to last) person we need in the White House.

ed, hand to god I am NOT getting talking points from the Cruz campaign.

edutcher said...

The whole Cruz patter is about "We hate Trump".

And they go after his supporters ceaselessly, never missing a cheap shot, but never want to talk about Cruz' negatives, the dirty things he's done in this race, how his shot at winning is less than Trump's (you think those low negatives are because people like him? they've never heard of him, but the media will make sure they get the Lefty version), or the fact he is nowhere as perfect as they have brainwashed themselves into thinking.

We try to be civil here. I try to keep it light, but it gets a little thick when it's non-stop insults and a one way street when it comes to dialogue.

April wanted those of us to say whether we'd support the nominee, regardless of whom. To twit the crowd (I mean everyone) after last night, I asked the same question and bag was a tad less than happy answering and I have yet to hear from April.

Civil is like everything else - a two way street. Ya gotta give it to get it.

The real issue is stopping Hillary. Some like Trump. Some people seem to see it differently. That's what elections, primaries as well as generals, are for. All I can say is people are voting for Trump more than Cruz. If Rubio drops out, we'll see how that goes, but, if beating Trump is more important than beating Hillary, then you better get used to saying President Hildabeast.

PS DBQ, you're on the ground there and, from what I've read of what you wrote over the years, you've spent most of your life there, so you have a feel the rest of us don't, but I'm having a hard time seeing Cruz take the place with his revivalist act.

Well, as far as I can tell from the people that we have been talking to is

1. The Republicans in our area NE California and the rural areas are firmly for Trump. SO I would not be surprised if the wins those districts. Republican working people, ranchers, farmers, truck drivers, small business owners.

2. Many of our liberal friends, acquaintances and clients who generally vote Democrat and some who are really really lefties....are also for Trump. They can't vote for him in the Primary, but if he were on the ticket against Hillary (whom they really really hate) they would vote in the election for Trump.

3. Many of those clients of our who live in other parts of the State but who have summer homes and hunting lodges here are NOT for Trump. These are the Republican professional classes. Our clients consist of attorneys, judges, silicon valley entrepreneurs, land developers, the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary club types. Many of those will not vote for Trump. Some will, but most are not going to. Therefore I expect those districts in the more urban areas, Trump will not be the choice in the Primary. So...Orange County areas, Bay Area etc.

Because the Primary in Ca is not an open primary, I think the small districts and rural districts go for Trump and Cruz gets the other areas.

Behind the Redwood Curtain in Humboldt County, Hayfork and other North Coastal areas. I have no idea. Some people we know, and relatives that we have in that area are VERY conservative, not religious types, but really really hate the Government and the Republican party....they are definitely going to be Trump voters. Are there more of those Republican voters than the Cruz types? Dunno.

When it comes to the National Election, the Republicans don't have a chance to win the Electoral Votes in California. They could run Jesus Christ and would still lose to the Democrats.
