Another selection from my Club Music favorites...

Why should Chip get all the food posts.....

I am not an innovative chef like Chip. I am a simple man. Actually a simpleton. I love a simple recipe. Heres one:

3 lbs string beans
10 large red potatoes
Pecorino red pepper flakes
¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
1/3 cup red wine vinegar

A simple and delicious salad is one my grandma used to make. It is the essence of simple peasant cooking.

Simply clean the strings by snapping them in two and removing any stray stems. You can break off the ends if they bother you. Or not.  Wash them off and put in boiling water for about 8 minutes so the string beans get sort of cooked but be sure to take them out before they get mushy. You want the al dente. Take out and drain the water. Put the string beans in a metal bowl and add the olive oil and smush it around to get oil all over everything. Cover with foil as it will cook a little longer in the bowl.

Put the potatoes in boiling water and cook until soft about twenty minutes or so. Test them by putting a fork in them. If you can push it right in without resistance then they are done. Take them out of the water and let them cool. When they are cool enough to handle but way before they start to turn black, just peel off the skins which are very loose and easy to take off. Cut the potato into little triangular pieces 1 ½ inches on each side. Then add it to the string beans in the metal bowl.

Take a big wooden spoon and mix them all together without smushing them too much. Add the red wine vinegar. Liberally sprinkle in the pecorino red pepper flakes and salt to taste. Chill in the refrigerator before serving.

Like revenge, it is a dish best eaten cold.

Salud.

George Armstrong Custer has long been one of the most controversial figures in American military history. Famously last in his class at West Point ( he was worse than John McCain) he was a hero of the "War to Set Men Free." Serving as a young protégé to such luminaries and miscreants as George McClellan and Alfred Pleasonton, Custer was promoted to brigadier general of volunteers at the tender age of twenty three. At East Cavalry Field, Custer led a mounted charge of the 1st Michigan Cavalry, . which he lead from the front losing more than 200 troopers in the aftermath of the Battle of Gettysburg. Finally coming under the command of Maj. Gen. Philip Sheridan in 1864, Custer was involved in most of the battles in the eastern theatre of the war, destroying Jubal Early's army and accepting the flag of truce at Appomattox. Promoted brevet Major General he amassed a stellar career as a fighting officer.

He was vain and theatrical but that was the style of the time. Although his soldiers mocked his costumes they respected that he lead from the front unlike many other officers of the time. Perhaps he was too stupid to be afraid, but there is no doubt he was a man of courage. The fact is he was a warrior. And warriors kill people. Warriors like Genghis Khan, Saladin, El Cid, Richard the Lionhearted, Charles Martel, Gustas Alpohus, Napleon, Wellington, Andrew Jackson, Nathan Bedford Forrest, Robert E. Lee, US Grant, Black Jack Pershing, Douglas MacArthur, and George Patton. Some were more brutal than others. Some were leaders and some were butchers. But they were in the business of killing the enemy. As Patton once said "No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country." Political attitudes come and go and standards of behavior change over time but the fundamental rules still apply.

The question is do we have military leaders who will do what has to be done today. Will they be willing to kill the enemy. Because the enemy has shown they have no compunction in killing us. Is the military full of Custers or Grants. Where do we stand after eight years of Obama firing the fighting soldiers and putting the politicians in place.

"The temptation (to criticize him) should be steadfastly resisted"

Albert Bierstadt (January 7, 1830 – February 18, 1902) was an American painter best known for his lavish, sweeping landscapes of the American West...
Born in Germany, Bierstadt was brought to the United States at the age of one by his parents. He later returned to study painting for several years in Düsseldorf. He became part of the Hudson River Schoolin New York, an informal group of like-minded painters who started painting along this scenic river. Their style was based on carefully detailed paintings with romantic, almost glowing lighting, sometimes called luminism
Despite his popular success, Bierstadt was criticized by some contemporaries for the romanticism evident in his choices of subject and his use of light was felt to be excessive. His exhibition pieces were brilliantly crafted images that glorified the American West as a land of promise. Bierstadt's choice of grandiloquent subjects was matched by his entrepreneurial flair. His exhibitions of individual works were accompanied by promotion, ticket sales, and, in the words of one critic, a "vast machinery of advertisement and puffery."
His wife was diagnosed with consumption in 1876, and from then until her death in 1893, Bierstadt spent time with her in the warmer climate of Nassau in the Bahamas. He also continued to travel to the West and Canada. In later life, Bierstadt's work fell increasingly out of critical favor. It was attacked for its theatrical tone.

"Congress Alarmed by Iran Pact's Secret Understandings"
The controversy began on Wednesday when Secretary of State John Kerry told House lawmakers behind closed doors that he neither possessed nor had read a copy of two secret side deals between the IAEA and Iran, according to Representative Mike Pompeo, a Republican member of the House Intelligence Committee who was inside the session. Congress hasn't seen those side agreements either.

“Kerry told me directly that he has not read the secret side deals,” Pompeo told us in an interview. “He told us the State Department does not have possession of these documents.”

A statement distributed by the State Department on Wednesday disputed the characterization that the agreements between Iran and the IAEA were "secret." Instead, it described them as "technical arrangements" and said U.S. experts were "comfortable with the contents," which the State Department would brief to Congress if asked.

"It is standard practice for the IAEA and member states to treat bilateral documents as 'safeguards confidential,' " the State Department statement said. "This is a principal the United States has championed throughout the IAEA’s existence to protect both proprietary and proliferation sensitive information. We must be able to ensure that information given to the IAEA does not leak out and become a how to guide for producing nuclear materials that can be used in nuclear weapons, and that countries know their patented or proprietary information won’t be stolen because they are released in IAEA documents."

But while these agreements may be standard operating procedure in the case of other IAEA nuclear inspections, with Iran it's potentially more serious...
For the Obama administration, not having copies of the side agreements between Iran and the IAEA is convenient. The law requires it to give Congress all the documents it possesses and only those documents. If the side agreements are outside the reach of Kerry, they are outside the reach of Congress and the American people.

"£50 million of British taxpayer-funded foreign aid money has gone to Clinton charities"

"Some claim charity is inefficient and taxpayers could simply be funding management charges"
British politicians – including Gordon Brown – stand accused of diverting huge amounts of cash through the organisations after falling under the spell of the US presidential candidate and her husband Bill.

The UK is one of the biggest donors, handing over more than £20 million last year alone to the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), an organisation chaired by former President Bill, 68, and whose board includes the couple's daughter Chelsea, 35. Since 2011, a total of £48.9 million has gone into the coffers of this charity alone.

Tory backbenchers say the revelation is symptomatic of the fact that the Department for International Development has so much money to spend that large amounts have to be simply handed to global charities, often leading to huge amounts of waste.

And a citizenry that votes for an asshole is less deluded than one that votes for a messiah.

Thus, voting for, say, Silvio Berlusconi (a kind of wealthier mini-Trump, and yet the third longest serving prime minister in Italian history, after Mussolini and Giolitti) is less psychologically unhealthy than voting for Barack Obama. And, come to that, less damaging to republican virtue than voting for the previous guy's wife or brother.

Explaining Trump, I like the paragraph, previous guy's wife or brother. Painful as it's so low and true.

I did not know that, or that, or that, so much packed in there; the mini-Trump thing, the longest serving thing, nor even that Giolitti was a long serving prime minister. I must admit Mark Steyn sure knows history. He tosses these little goodies out I think because he knows his readers like it. I do. I was wondering where did he ever come up with the John McCain joke, it's awful no matter who says it, but then to come up with a thing like that to support your opinion, is interesting. Did he research that or what? Remember it from that long ago? Was it that bad it stings this long after? He explains later he wrote about John McCain's joke at the time that McCain told it. Now all that makes sense.

I like the piece on steynonline The Superbowl of Heroes because Steyn says what I've been thinking, and I like his historical tidbits. My angle is not wrapped up with Trump, we overlap noticing that the right is doing the same thing SJWs do by creating a no-go zone for everybody and reacting with full fury when violated so that John McCain comest to represent all POWs and all servicemen and not just John McCain who does not represent those two groups very well.

Whose that girl?

I don't want to be a joker but this is not who you think it is. You don't stand a candle in the wind if you make the obvious guess.

She was a neighbor of mine actually and I used to run into her every so often in the neighborhood. Not that I say hello or anything. I don't talk to broads I don't know. But she moved back to Hollywood.

I bet you don't know her either.

Hey why not sell it on Amazon

I have been busy downsizing and I have decided to sell some of my books. Actually all of my books. You see I have a library of about 6,000 titles. Yeah I know. Very wasteful. But I was always buying books and over the years I have accumulated a bunch. The wife freaks out about how much room they take up.

In any event I have totally converted to E Books. I stock up my kindle all the time and of course I get some of the books I already own in the new format. It is sort of the same thing that you must have experienced when CD's first came out. I mean you had your favorite records on vinyl. Then you taped it or bought the cassette. Then it came out on CD and you bought it again. So you end up with "Bat Out of Hell" or "Aqualung" in all three formats.

So I decided to investigate selling my books on Amazon. They have a great little system that lets you market your books on their website. They make it very easy. You put in one number and all of the info on the book is inscribed and added to their website and it is offered for sale. They even have a mechanism to print an invoice and the shipping documents. They tell you the range of prices including what other people are selling it for which kind of sucks. It seems that some people are selling stuff for two cents. I always put two dollars down as my lowest price no matter what the matching price is supposed to be. Otherwise it is not worth it.

Most of my books are not worth much. Surprisingly the science fiction and fanatasy books have the best resale value. I did have one sale so far. James Michener's "Hawaii" which surprisingly was worth about $50.

So far so good. Now I just have to unload all of those mystery and history books. I have a whole collection of alternative histories where the South won the Civil War. I bet there will be a big market for them. Just sayn'

The worst joke I have ever heard!

New York Post, July 24, 2015
Secretary of State John Kerry had an “intense exchange” when he tried to sell the Iran nuclear deal to skeptical Jewish leaders in New York on Friday.
A day after GOP senators blasted him for getting “fleeced” by Iran, Kerry faced another tough crowd in a closed-door meeting with about 120 Jewish leaders at the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations.
“It was very intense exchange, serious exchange,” the group’s vice chairman, Malcolm Hoenlein, told The Post.
Kerry spoke from a podium and fielded pointed questions from a crowd of Israel supporters concerned that the deal could allow Iran to get relief from sanctions while still maintaining some nuclear infrastructure that could threaten Israel.
“There was no acrimony, but there was intensity,” at the event, held at the Stern College for Women in midtown, said Hoenlein
He said members asked Kerry about “snapback provisions” if Iran cheats, a 24-day waiting period for nuclear inspections, and the window of when Iran gets to re-start some nuclear R&D.
One critic was former Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, Kerry’s former Senate colleague, who “made some impassioned comments,” according to Hoenlein.
The State Department called to request the meeting as the Obama administration works to secure enough support in Congress to fend off a motion of disapproval and prepares for a possible override of a promised presidential veto.
“Clearly they’re concerned about where members of Congress are at,” said Hoenlein. “That was implicit in his remarks.”
The role of Sen. Charles Schumer, and a longtime defender of Israel and a key Democratic leader, remains up in the air. Schumer has yet to take a position on the Iran deal.
“I believe he’ll do the right thing. The question is, will he go public and does he bring others along?” said Hoenlein. "Of course he is a smuck so anything can happen with this putz."
Earlier, at the Council of Foreign Relations, Kerry said Israel would get the blame if Congress votes down the nuclear deal.
“I fear that what could happen is if Congress were to overturn it, our friends Israel could actually wind up being more isolated and more blamed,” Kerry said. "As usual it is the fault of the Juuueessss!!!"
That line of argument didn’t go over well with the Jewish leaders. “They [the Obama administration] can differ with that [Israel’s position] without isolating people or Israel,” said Hoenlein. "But what can you expect from ignorant shvartzes and their butt boys."
In his speech at the Foreign Relations group, Kerry also went after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying he hasn’t offered a real alternative to a deal he has been denouncing for months.
“We’ve seen the Prime Minister draw a cartoon of a bomb at the UN and so on and so forth,” Kerry said. “But what’s happened? What has anyone done about it? Anybody got a plan to roll it back? What do they think we can do. We can't do anything. We won't do anything. I think they forgot that Ronald Reagan is dead and buried. The Jews don't matter to us anymore.”
During an interview earlier on NBC’s “Today” show, Kerry also warned Israel would be making a huge mistake if it took unilateral military action against Iran.
“That’d be an enormous mistake, a huge mistake with grave consequences for Israel and for the region, and I don’t think it’s necessary,” he said. "Israel has no right to protect itself and if it attempts to do so the Obama administration will make them pay."

Ginger or Mary Ann?

"What's the matter Gilligan? You seem all tense."
"Well I was minding my own business and then I found you girls doing yoga under the coconut tree. It make me feel all funny inside."
"Really. I would like to feel funny inside. If you know what I mean?"
"No I don't know what you mean Miss Ginger."
"Oh I can show you. And you can take your hat off."
"Actually I can't. It would be embarrassing."
"Don't be shy honey. It is just us girls."
"That is what I am afraid of. I better go find the skipper."
"Yeah why don't you go skip away. Jeeesh. I hate the Sixties."

Unlike the mainstream media I like to follow up on stories and if I am wrong about something I will be happy to admit it.

The Amber Alert in Houston for Dereck Wayne Felder was canceled after he returned home a few hours after the alert was sent out.  The situation was described as follows by a local Houston TV station:

KHOW.com:
CONROE, Texas – An Amber Alert has been discontinued for a 12-year-old boy from Conroe.
Dereck Wayne Felder returned home hours after the alert was issued.
Conroe police earlier said they were looking for a cross-dresser named Cornelius Alix in connection with Dereck's disappearance. Alix also goes by the name Chekita Joseph. Police still want to question her.
Police said earlier they believed Derek was in "grave danger."
They later said Alix knows the family and had babysat Derek and a sibling.
Alix has a long rap sheet including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, evading arrest, prostitution and fraud.
It's not clear whether any charges will be filed in this case.

"Congress gets kidnapped"

A driver was stuck in a traffic jam on the highway outside Washington, DC.

Nothing was moving.

Suddenly, a man knocks on the window. The driver rolls down the window and asks, "What's going on?"

"Terrorists have kidnapped the entire US Congress, and they're asking for a $100 million dollar ransom. Otherwise, they are going to douse them all in gasoline and set them on fire.

We are going from car to car, collecting donations."

"How much is everyone giving, on an average?" the driver asks.

The man replies, "Roughly a gallon."

"Criminal Inquiry Is Sought in Clinton Email Account"

"Two inspectors general have asked the Justice Department to open a criminal investigation into whether sensitive government information was mishandled in connection with the personal email account Hillary Rodham Clinton used as secretary of state, senior government officials said Thursday."
The request follows an assessment in a June 29 memo by the inspectors general for the State Department and the intelligence agencies that Mrs. Clinton’s private account contained “hundreds of potentially classified emails.” The memo was written to Patrick F. Kennedy, the under secretary of state for management...

The Justice Department has not decided if it will open an investigation, senior officials said. A spokesman for Mrs. Clinton’s campaign declined to comment.

At issue are thousands of pages of State Department emails from Mrs. Clinton’s private account. Mrs. Clinton has said she used the account because it was more convenient, but it also shielded her correspondence from congressional and Freedom of Information Act requests. (read more)
Are these poll driven? Are the Democrats panicking? I'm not defending Hillary, but, they could have opened an investigation when the revelations first came up.

Also, from Twitter there is this... "NY Times reporter also admitting that Clintons came down hard on him and forced him to change the lead of his story. Unreal." and from Politico

"Impatient protesters begin digging up Confederate general’s grave"

"A group of anti-Confederate protesters aren’t happy enough with the declaration by the city of Memphis that it wants to dig up and move the remains of Confederate general Nathan Bedford Forrest."
They want it done now.

A group surrounded a shovel Wednesday and ceremoniously removed a chunk of grass and soil.

“We are going to bring the back hoe, the tractors and the men with the equipment to raise Bedford Forrest from the soil of Memphis,” Isaac Richmond with the “Commission on Religion and Racism” declared to awaiting TV cameras, CBS 3 reported.

Richmond ran unsuccessfully for Congress last year.

He believes if the general who died 137 years ago can just be eliminated, that will really help things.

“If he’s gone, some of this racism and race-hate might be gone,” he said, shovel in hand. “We got a fresh shovel full, and we hope that everybody else will follow suit and dig him up.”

Others see their actions as little more than destruction of property.

“They can protest all they want. Just because they don’t like it, doesn’t mean they are right. Digging up the park is just pure and simple vandalism,” says Lee Millar, spokesman Sons of Confederate Veterans.

“We really don’t want to make this a confrontation. We just want to say hey, we want to get on with it!” Richmond insists.

pigeon

I was looking off the balcony and noticed a white pigeon soaring rising on a heat bubble and I thought, hey wait pigeons don't soar, they flap around. It's what makes them such easy targets for birds that do soar and dive. It must be a hawk rising gloriously on a thermal. That's what it is. Don't see many of those around here downtown. But now with all these pigeons messing all over maybe we will see more of them. But no.

More Pizza Blogging....it's the Pizza Tour!

If you love pizza as much as I do you want to try all the different types and styles. One day last winter we went on the Pizza Tour and I have to say it was pretty great. I had low expectations because it was run by a very enthusiastic hipster named Scott Wiener but I to have to admit he knew his pizza. Even if he was a wiener.

We started at Lombardi's which was were pizza was invented. The first pizza shop to be licensed as such they are the shop from which all other pizza stores sprung. Which is appropriate as they are on Spring Street. They had a coal burning brick oven and we got to go to the back and see the oven in operation. The slice was made with California Tomatoes, Cows milk mozzarella and was very tasty if slightly undercooked for my taste. Your basic Margarita pizza. A superior slice and well worth the visit if you are interested in the history of pizza.
Then we went to Luzzo's on First Avenue which had a wood burning oven. This Neapolitan slice was much sweeter as they used Buffalo Milk mozzarella and tomatoes from San Marinzano in Italy. The slice tasted much sweeter and lighter and is highly recommended in my book.
Next we jumped on the bus to Brooklyn which is pretty funny because I thought we were going to the Bronx. I don't get to the Bronx all that often so I was looking forward to some new joints but they changed the tour at the last minute.

So where do we go but to J&V Pizza which is just like a million other pizza joints in the city. The funny thing is that it is right across the street from the OTB where the wife used to work and the owners used to come in all the time and bet their asses off and lose the weeks take. They served a Grand Ma square slice that was very crunchy and not up to the rest of the slices. They had other slices that were better but the one they picked was not up to par.
But the joker in the deck, the O Henry ending is the last stop. Sam's in Carroll Gardens. Three blocks from the store. I go on a tour to see history and they bring me back to my house. You see I grew up with Louie who owns the joint since we were pissing our diapers on Tompkins Place where we both born. I haven't been in there in about twenty five years. Now I know I had a beef with him but I forget what it was. It was either the time his cat sat on my veal cutlet parmigiana or the time he was screaming at his 90 year old waiter and my buddy's wife got all upset. I don't remember which. So I haven't gone in there in years. Actually about seventeen years. So we pull up in the bus and we all get off and we walk in the joint. Louie looks at me and goes "You live in the neighborhood forty freaking years and you have to take a bus here?" Hey waddayagonnado?

Oh the tour guide was shitting his pants. Louie and I growled at each other a while but it was no big deal. We have been friends for over fifty years after all. I honestly don't go down that part of Court St anymore so I really just forgot about it. I promised I would be back soon. Things got back to normal and we caught up on the news of all the old timers we used to know. Who was dead. Who was in jail. Whatever. Old times.

We could have just gone home but we rode the bus back with our friends to have dessert in Little Italy. It was a fun day. I highly recommend the tour if you are in NYC and want a slice of life.  A pizza slice. The kid who runs it is cool. You will have fun.

Openly Gay Priest asks Pope Francis for something?

New York Daily News, July 21,2015
A priest who came out as gay after losing his ministry job at a New Jersey private school is looking to the Holy See for guidance.
Rev. Warren Hall penned a one-page letter earlier this month detailing a decision by the Archdiocese of Newark to end his role as a Seton Hall University chaplain for advocating against LGBT bullying.
He hopes Pope Francis will have a chance to see his note before he departs for the World Meeting of Families scheduled in Philadelphia this September.
“Good teachers are being fired, pastoral and compassionate priests and religious women are being silenced and accept it out of fear of being disciplined by their superiors, and good, faith-filled people are leaving the Church as they witness all of this happening,” Hall wrote. “As a gay priest, I am personally experiencing all of these things.”
Hall cited a Facebook post decrying the prevalence of bullying that plagues lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender men and women for effectively resulting in his termination notice in May.
“In a letter to me, the Archbishop of Newark stated that the reason for my removal was that ‘the inaccurate messages on either Twitter or Facebook have raised serious questions in my mind about where you stand with reference to some important Church teachings,’” Hall explained in the correspondenceobtained by Religion News Service.
The message that marred his 26 years as a priest was a social media update from “NOH8,” an advocacy group with ties to California’s battle to overturn the state’s ban on same-sex marriage in 2008.
Hall came out as gay two weeks after being fired.
Hall is not the only disgruntled member of Catholic clergy seeking, if not an acknowledgement from Pope Francis himself, at least a conversation with local dioceses about the growing number of LGBT educators and priests at odds with the Church’s exclusive policies.
His letter trailed a heartfelt plea mailed to the Apostolic Palace on behalf of Margie Winters, the Philadelphia educator forced to resign after a complaint revealed her sexual orientation and same-sex union to the local diocese.
While her letter has failed to produce a single form of acknowledgement from Catholic religious leaders, Winters and her wife, Andrea Vettori, have hope Hall’s ordeal will build momentum for their cause.
“I think people are understanding who these people are and why they’re being fired. They’re questioning that,” Winters told The News on Thursday.
That awareness comes at the cost of other ministerial educators who have lost their jobs such as Matthew Eledge, a former English teacher at Skutt Catholic HIgh School in Omaha, Neb., Flint Dollar, a music teacher at Mount de Sales Academy in Macon, Ga., and Tyler McCubbin, a volunteer coach at Dowling Catholic High School in Des Moines, Iowa.
“When is that threshold going to be?” Vettori asked. “We hope it’s now, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see."

For my fellow Americans who might not get this joke, fill in the line: "Because we're still in Detroit".

If he was Black and in the US, where would he pull over?

I think Manchester is wonderful. The Northern Quarter is one of my favourite places in the world.

"President Obama to veto any attempt to block Gitmo closure"

"White House spokesman says the president is in the final stages of a plan to shut the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay."
The White House is “in the final stages of drafting a plan to safely and responsibly close the prison at Guantanamo Bay,” spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters during a Wednesday briefing.

The closure of the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay has been a goal of President Barack Obama since his first days in office. In January 2009, Obama signed a directive ordering the detention facility closed within a year, but opposition rose over the ensuing months and eventually scuttled his plans. Earlier this year, Obama expressed regret over not simply closing the facility at once.
Apparently we are going back to pre-9/11 ante, of trying terrorists in American courts. Presumably affording them all the rights and privileges of American citizens.

"Obama would veto bill stripping sanctuary cities of federal funds"

"The Obama administration on Thursday threatened to veto a House bill that would strip federal law enforcement grants from "sanctuary cities."
The bill would deny cities that refuse to enforce federal immigration laws certain Justice Department grants, and is expected to get a House vote on Thursday. The bill is a response to the shooting death of Kate Steinle by an illegal immigrant who had been deported several times.

The immigrant, Francisco Sanchez, was released despite federal requests to keep him detained, a decision that was required under San Francisco's "sanctuary city" policy.

But a White House statement indicated that the Obama administration doesn't see that event as a reason to pressure sanctuary cities to enforce federal laws.

"This bill fails to offer comprehensive reforms needed to fix the nation's broken immigration laws, undermines current administration efforts to remove the most dangerous convicted criminals and to work collaboratively with state and local law enforcement agencies, and threatens the civil rights of all Americans by authorizing state and local officials to collect information regarding any private citizen's immigration status, at any time, for any reason, and without justification," the Office of Management and Budget said in a statement of administration policy issued Thursday morning.

"If the President were presented with H.R. 3009, his senior advisors would recommend that he veto this bill," the statement said.
In some other time, at a place far far away, this kind of thing would be an impeachable offence.

Privilege

Specifically white privilege.

I do not know the origin of the antagonism nor how it starts up and breathes into life. It seems vacant and forced. The provocations come out of nowhere, that is somewhere, for some reason, and once it has life and spreads becomes aggressive by bandwagon energy and I don't like it. Conservatives treat it as a joke. This is only the latest example of phenomena seen regularly. Out of the blue, some bizarre provocation.

A.) Not mad. So false premise out of the gate
B.) Black activist did not ask for anything that I'm aware. Just you saying so. So you're provocatively wrong twice in a single sentence. You must be vile.
C.) I already did check my privilege. Just as I checked my youth (C.2) when my elders told me to make sure to enjoy it while it lasted as well as my health. Just as I checked my advantage of being born American (C.3) and not some third world heck hole. (C.4) good family (C.5) male, man did I ever luck out on that one. Joke!  (C.6) penis, got lucky there too. Hey, you told me to check my privilege. Your privilege would be different, you'd have vag and tits on your list. I know that you would.

I checked my privileges and they're doing just fine. I heard that before.

And the race and sex and height and looks and family that you chanced upon.

When I checked, the white privilege I noticed, the change that I notice, arises naturally, conferred upon me by all races by virtue of my age and survival. It's impressive, my age and survival is.  I would not have checked my white privilege on my own nor enjoyed it so much had SJW types not been so silly to suggest that I do it. Thanks. Now that I notice, it's great. It really is. I'll take as much given me and I'll enjoy it.

And now that SJW types have me also talking about it openly I find the rest of the world does not agree with all this entirely.

The insurance broker on the phone gave me resistance in acknowledging my white male privilege. She offered me a very good price for automobile insurance. Good enough to induce me to switch providers. Then after offering she was embarrassed to notice I have a speeding ticket that's recent. Then she discovered that hardly affected the cost of my insurance at all. It hardly bumped. I didn't even feel it. A tiny amount for such a bad thing. She was shocked. I said, "That's white male privilege for you right there."

"No."

She argued with me. Tried to get me think I'm not privileged and yet she's still shocked by my low speeding ticket penalty increase. Left shaking her head and she's the pro.

But even the day of the ticket is another example, I cast back to the moment and related to her it was actually pleasant exchange with the cop. I was having a terrible morning otherwise. The conversation with the cop ticketing me was one of the brighter points. I told him, "Man, I'm having a terrible day today." He was a very pleasant minority cop.

"How so?"

I told him what happened, the litany that led to the ticket, and he spaced out asking me for my registration and proof of insurance. All he asked for is my license. That's all. And that's white male privilege right there.

The insurance lady kept making excuses for the cop in my story to dissuade me from thinking I'm enjoying white privilege. "He already knew by calling it in" but the truck could have been stolen and assuming it was not stolen is white privilege all over the place.

Conversely, being a privileged white male can be a bit expensive at times and not everyone is willing to maintain one's privilege.

This occurred to me when I was checking my privilege. I encountered my neighbor, his girlfriend, and her two girls in passing in and out of our apartments. I was stoked about my photographic excursion at Morrison and recommend him taking the girls, they'd love it, I said with the girls right there. I realized later the guy doesn't drive. Maybe due to expense. There I am blabbing on about how easy it is to get there, details like maps, when he has no means to drive there, my sales pitch adding to his sense of vehicle inadequacy.

I really need to check that privilege of mine that has me so presumptuous.

And it is expensive even if not making payments. Right then the brakes went out and I barely made without incident into Tilden's into the back where I shouldn't be but had to, and there I was ushered carefully picking through the garage where customers are not allowed due to the clutter, the equipment and insurance restrictions, but then due to white male privilege I was allowed through. But then the cost of repairs push guys like my neighbor out of the vehicle market. White male privilege right there again. Vehicle ownership is a big privilege that is taken for granted I only started to realize.

I figured all teenagers have cars. It's a teenager thing. But not for everybody.

And even within that episode upon paying I used a card and credit is a huge white privilege thing, certain the card is approved I jokingly said, "Boy, I sure hope this works, or I'll be out there on capitol hill selling my body again" no response, "and it takes forever collecting enough quarters" no response, "It' passed?"  The guy answered "of course."

"It did? Heh heh heh heh, suckers."

"Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha " The two minority guys thought that was hilarious. It's not that funny but it is white privilege conferred on me by them for them to think it's that funny. And it is expensive.

The same day a young black man was unlocking the closet door for me to retrieve a package stored in there but he does not have the right key. He's checking dozens of keys on a ring and taking an embarrassingly long time to no avail. Another black woman walks behind me while he's trying as I wait behind the man. Ignoring me she says to him in passing, "Careful like that or you'll end up getting arrested." He answered, "Yeah, I know." Not to be ignored  I answered both of them, "No worries, I've got you covered. Nothing can happen with me standing here: white privilege."

Shut up.

There is no natural rejoinder for subtle tacit racialism met with bald bluntness.

The next day, the same office, the same black guy and different minority woman.

"I am going to Don Quijote's can I buy you two lunch?"

That surprises people. He doesn't know me that well, she does though. They accept. Then on return, "Thanks, Chip. I owe you one."

"No you do not. That takes the fun out."  Doesn't he grasp how privilege works?

KLEM FM

The guy in the introduction says something about the lead singer being "the Artful Dodger."  It's true--Steve Marriott started out as child actor, playing that character in Oliver! on a London stage. He went on to do even greater things but he had a rather ignominious death.

Ipod Radio

I had to program a new Ipod for the store. The old one got damaged somehow so we had to set up a new one.

I was able to download most of the stuff from the old one because luckily I had saved it. But I made a few new playlists.

This is the Trooper Top Ten. You might recognize it because I have talked about it before.

It drives the wife crazy because she likes the new stuff.
