"Suspected burglar stuck in chimney dies after residents light fire"

"Lt. Brandon Pursell said deputies received a 911 call to the 16000 block of West Gale Avenue just before 3 p.m. After lighting a fire, the male homeowner heard screaming coming from somewhere inside the house. When the resident realized a person was in the chimney, he extinguished the fire."
Deputies and firefighters had to smash the chimney to get the man out. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Don't be surprised if this turns into a lawsuit. I know, I know, but it's happened in cases like this previously.

@April: I was not surprised to hear that. It confirmed my suspicion. That was the motive all along. The dad is a hustler.

Naughty. And that was one tight chimney.

I've heard the expression to 'light a fire under someone'... but this time the words came alight.

Lem, it could have been smoke inhalation. I recently read that many burning at the stake victims actually died of smoke inhalation.

To light a fire under someone was not a figure of speech. In Victorian times chimneys were narrow. Adults couldn't climb up them. They had to use children. The chimney sweeps adopted children from foundling homes. They were supposed to be apprentices, but the climbing up chimneys was abrasive to the elbowss. The kids generally died of cancer in a few years. The kids would sometimes climb a few feet up the flue, and then just stay there. They were in no hurry to continue climbing up the narrow, dirty and dangerous passage. In order to properly motivate these children, the chimney sweep would light a fire under them.......Oliver Twist narrowly escapes beng apprenticed to a chimney sweeper. I guess Dickens meant to show that there were more sordid fates than being an apprentice pickpocket. Not a lot of white privilege in Victorian London.

Most building fire victims die of smoke inhalation.

@ Chick-- So The dad is a hustler. Sadly, with our lib courts and moron population, they will probably get it. The teachers union will help them.
