Bill O'Reilly is a jerk

What an objective, dispassionate, reasoned, open-minded, humble journalist O'Reilly is.

And a hack. And a blowhard. And a liar. And a misleader of the American people.
And a douchebag.
Yeah, I can't stand the guy.
He threw all his little tricks out there in one segment (overtalking, pointing, last-name calling, sudden topic changing, unilateral shifting of the burden of proof). Too much. It ends up feeling very forced and fake and defensive. And the viewer has no idea what either man is talking about. Not a huge Will fan but he totally won this.

Now that O'Really's gone full Lefty, I'm sure Ritmo left off the /sarc purposely.

No fan of the Perrier Conservative, but O'Really's been bucking for this for a good 10 years at least.

Looks like he's getting it good and hard.

I watched that clip last night and my feeling was that O'Reilly was indeed out of line. He acted like a complete ass, actually. And I'm someone who is often irked by George Will.

The idea that George Will would be generally more off-putting than O'Reilly to anyone is something I find both fascinating and appalling.

O'Reilly never met a decibel level he didn't like.

He's like a right-wing version of me, sans the internet.

I look at O'Reilly and remind myself of how far is too far to go in a shouting match.

He is a cautionary tale for the excessively vocal and those tempted with excessive vocality.

He's a vocal volcano.

Ok. I'm done. Over to you, chicken lit.

I don't watch TV talking heads of any flavor habitually. I mainly see them in snippets and clips, so I'm not suited to rate them. O'Reilly always struck me as a blusterous blowhard, but I had never seen him so downright rude. I'm reasonably certain that I have more respect for Will because I've read Will.

Will can be annoying because he sometimes puts on a beltway insider mantle and he tries to get folksy by talking baseball which doesn't resonate with me.

Will is definitely intelligent.

"...a beltway insider mantle..."

I forgot how shameful it had become for a Republican to admit understanding of how government actually works.

I hate George Will with the heat of a thousand suns but I am with him on this one. O'Reilly thinks he can smear Reagan to make some dough. This might be the beginning of the end for him. I think he is well past his expiration date.

It's not that at all. It's closer to how well the The Capitol in Panem (from The Hunger Games) hits the mark. Both D and R pundits who reside in DC project a smug satisfaction of being there. Their smugness was not there a generation ago. I hope to live to see the bubble burst and a balance restored.

There should be term limits for commentators just as there should be for political candidates.

I remember George Will when he was a young whippersnapper on the McLaughlin Group and made Carl Rowan lose his shit. That must have been over 30 years ago.

Can't they get somebody from this century for fooks sake.

O'Reilly is a loudmouth, shanty Irishman. A Rex Ryan w/ a tie.

Blowhards gotta blow. You can see the difference there between someone who has a thin skin and someone who doesn't.

He's been this way all along. Remember "We'll do it LIVE!!!!" back when he was new? He was a teacher before that. Imagine having that guy grading your essays.

However, we took one of those Everglades air boat tours a few years ago. The captain, who must have told us 20 times he was "US Coast Guard certified" said he took O'Reilly and his family on a trip recently. Said O'Reilly was a nice guy. This captain was a drunken Everglade swamp rat. FWIW.

bagoh20 said...

He wanted to call the captain a hack, but considering him and his family might never be found again, he held his tongue, but it was a struggle.

Will is a Reagan loyalist. That's different than a hack. O'Reilly is, I guess, a pop historian. I haven't ready any of O'Reilly's books, but my guess is that he wouldn't be overly scrupulous about leaving out a salacious detail. That's different than a liar.........Both guys looked bad. They're not a good fit. Will's muted, scholarly presence made O'Reilly look more of a blowhard, but O'Reilly's bluster made Will look more of a wimp. They're both on the same network. They should have negotiated it better.......I watch O'Reilly all the time. His bluster is part of his appeal. I respect Will's intelligence and the breadth of knowledge demonstrated in his writings, but he doesn't engage the viewer........I don't know who's right. I suppose some people will read the book to find out. If that happens, O'Reilly will be the TKO winner of the bout.....I don't think either man if the definitive judge of Reagan or his presidency, but they're part of the equation.

As to the facts of the arguments, O'Reilly was saying because he got part of the story correct and stated some facts, then his conclusions were correct. Will was just arguing that Bill only had half the story, and that the missing facts show his conclusion were wrong. That seems right to me. I think Bill wanted to make a controversial book for money and purposely stopped at half the story. I could be wrong, but it wouldn't be the first time someone with plenty of money does something dishonest to get more. I never understood why they do that. At some point you have to say, it's not worth it to me.

Even if O'Reilly simply didn't get all his facts right and knows it, there is no way in hell he would admit that. Too embarrassing and too expensive.

Loved Will for years and years. Never watch him these days, but he held his own against blowhard O'Reilly. I've started watching O'Reilly again since the election is heating up, and pretty much like him. His questions are Democratic talking points that his guests tee off on, which I think is pretty funny. I think he was actually drunk earlier this week.

A drunk, shanty Irishman. HOLD THE PRESSES!

I wonder, was I mistaken or is this an occasional thing with him?

It's awesome watching old white geezers go after each other. I just waiting for the spittle to fly and the dentures to follow.

This video reminds me of what I just saw, lulz: https://youtu.be/bsve9wB_sEA
