"California motor-voter law will flood rolls with noncitizens, critics predict"

"The New Motor Voter Act automatically registers to vote all eligible voters when they obtain or renew their driver’s licenses at the Department of Motor Vehicles instead of requiring them to fill out a form. Those eligible may opt out of voter registration."
The goal is to ease barriers to voting, but election-integrity advocates warn that the measure could inadvertently add millions of illegal voters to the rolls given that California allows undocumented aliens to obtain driver’s licenses.
Eleven states and the District of Columbia now allow illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses, which are different in appearance from those issued to citizens. In California, noncitizen licenses carry the words “Federal Limits Apply” and “not valid for official federal purposes,” according to DriveCA.org.
In California, however, state officials “specifically chose not to make noncitizen license holders searchable in their DMV database,” said True the Vote spokesman Logan Churchwell, who called the newly signed bill “unprecedented.”

Yeah, that was precisely the intent. The First step was to get Illegals Drivers licenses, the second step was to give them the vote through the back door.

No one in California cares because its now a one-party state that will go farther and farther to the left. I know large numbers of Republican Californians who've stopped voting because its useless.

You can thank all the opponents of Prop 187 for this. Congressman Ryan, Bill Bennett, Bob Dole, McCain - mucho Gracias.

Do you get the feeling that Democrats just don't care? Not about fairness, not about poverty, not about rule of law, the environment, non-elites, and especially the truth. Despite being a lifelong Democrat, I doubt I will ever vote for one again in my lifetime, and it's already been decades of Dem drought on my ballots. Having lived in places with overwhelming Democrat control my whole life, I'm convinced that they are, as a party, despicable dishonest people.

Sure they care. Power, baby, power!

It's a step forward, but they really need to give felons the vote. Perhaps they could integrate voter registration forms into the prisoner induction process. It's an idea whose time has come. Probation officers could double as voter registration officials.

I think it's high time we let the citizens of Japan vote in our election.

Just for this coming presidential election, not always.

Then, the next presidential election, we could allow the citizens of Mongolia to vote.

It will be interesting when the Big One hits and Placerville is beachfront property.

Deeply, deeply depressing from the perspective of this native Californian.
I'd like an honest assessment from anyone who has a "liberal" or "progressive" perspective of the reason for this law. The only reason that I can see is to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs because the plutocrats must have their pate.

Also, for those of you in other states congratulating yourselves - hey, at least we're not in California - this is a preview of your future. You're welcome.

We owe it to them. We took CA away from them.

They were here first.

They're just undocumented Americans.

That about it?

Don't bet on that.

CA stopped being the national trendsetter when the Demos took over.

This is both Democrats AND Republicans, although the story here is Democrat California, the impulse, the drive is the same. This is the clearest most stark example yet conclusively showing, again, the ruling elite, now an actual class, the government is altering and abolishing the electorate and instituting a new new one.

One that suits them.

Instituting a new electorate because they just flat don't like all the civic-minded population causing them so much vexation. Better to have a more compliant agreeable electorate that accepts their kind and with no particular traditional American sentiments.

Columbus day is such an excellent example. Change the electorate, change the traditions, see something you don't like, something that sticks, something that expands your mind and ruins everything for you and because of that insight you must ruin everything for everybody.

*see Thom Hartmann, bears with his silly ass awhile*

You know full well Columbus had little to do with the founding of America the U S of A yet enjoy the historic distortion anyway. What the heck. You know full well his landing there has little to do with us but everything to do with European contact with Americas of which we are a part. There is a relation.

And there ARE horrors unspeakable.

So f'n what.

Since you're so brilliant and so full of rare knowledge and anguish that you wish so strongly everyone out there shared, your knowledge your deep historic insights, from reading a book! no less, from museum gift shop, you bought it!, EVERYONE SHOULD READ THE BOOK YOU READ, IS THIS TYPICAL LIBERAL OR WHAT? you'll have everyone know the source of your misery, to be miserable as you and you will not, can not settle until until that's accomplished. YOUR BOOK! And all this is motivated by envy of Rush Limbaugh. You have so much to prove. How stupid everyone is to hold views contrary to your impressive insights. Thom Hartman reads of the horrors conquistadors inflicted upon native populations wholesale as recorded baldly by priests and that ruins any celebration for Thom Hartman, proof positive of Western culture sins and nothing to celebrate so can we please knock it off with Columbus Day already?

No, Thom, you must be tormented. And you must continue tormenting us with your very special precious superseding destructive knowledge. It is your nature.

And the new electorate can do whatever they want. Perform any anti-Columbus parade they wish. Fly any flags. Serve up authentic history. Create new traditions. Have at it, Thom Hartmann, you'll be right there making it happen, you nervous freak.

You can also thank Ronald Reagen for the 86 amnesty. And the Bushes, particularly W, who
looked the other way while millions strolled in.

Reagan expected that Mexico would stop sending illegals if the ones here were documented.

His was an honest mistake.

Why would anyone expect that. Mexico's been sending illegals North since forever.
The population in 1960 was 38 million,it's now 122 million, not counting the millions here.
Eisenhower got rid of 3 million in the 50s, after Kennedy's immigration mashup there were millions here legally and over 4 million illegals in 1986. How many illegals are here now?
No excuses, it was a piss poor decision.

edutcher said...

About 12 mil.

And the ones who were here in the 50s came over because of the Bracero Program which let them in to do the manual work not otherwise done because we were fighting WWII.

This was a treaty with Mexico. He expected them to do their part.

And hindsight is 20-20.

PS If it could be done then, it can be down now.

And send the Moslems home, too.
