Old Hickory? Old Hickory Hair?

I think Donald Trump is the new Andrew Jackson.

Look at the similarities. Both are men of the people. Not the political or social class that they belong to who despise them as uncouth barbarians. The aristocrats hate them because they have the common touch. They both talk in way that resonates with the common man. The laborer. The mechanic. The farmer. The everyday person who didn't go to an ivy league school. They are considered low class vulgarians not worthy of the Presidency.

They both have horrible tempers and were legendary in their feuds. Now Trump doesn't have the balls to fight a duel but he did do it in the current mode....in business with a pen and a briefcase instead of a pistol or a blade. They don't give an inch and when they hate you they hate you. There can be no mistake. No namby pamby weasel words that you get from your typical political types. You do realize that Thomas Hart Benton is a dead ringer for Rosie O'Donnell.

They both picked women of loose morals as their wives. Rachel Donelson and Marla Maples had a lot in common. Both were all over the tabloids and attacked by their detractors who tried to drag them down because of the women they married. It is just as vicious today as it was in Jacksons time although people don't care that much anymore.

They both competed against the effete scions of a political dynasty. Jackson vs. John Quincy Adams. Trump vs. Jeb Bush. Their opponents can't believe that the people would prefer these uncouth vulgarians over their aristocratic knowledge and experince.

Last of all there is one characteristic that shows how Donald Trump and Andrew Jackson are dopplegangers.

The hair.

This is a good comparison!

Jackson shot it out with several people.

They both picked women of loose morals as their wives.

No, Rachel Donelson was no loose woman. There was some dispute over when her divorce was final and Jackson's enemies tried to make hay of it.

Several paid with their lives.

Before the pen and the briefcase Trump did carry a switch blade when he was a young punk.

Not the hair. Jackson's combed back, Trump combs over.

Jackson also didn't borrow John Kerry's tan lotion to tint his hair.

Jackson did own hundreds of slaves, so there's that.

That's not a bad comparison, though I think Jackson needed a wheelbarrow to carry around his balls. Not sure Trump quite meets that criteria.

If one finds themselves in Nashville take a tour of the "Hermitage", well worth it. Almost entirely as it was when Jackson lived there. Including the slave quarters. I can also recommend H.W. Brands biography of Jackson, hell of a read, Jackson a hell of a man, well, other than that trail of tears thing. Upon which I'm divided as to my thoughts about that episode.

The common man must mean something different in NYC. He didn't work his way up - he's been rich his whole life. He built fancy hotels and casinos for other rich people. Does he even know any common people? Has he ever? He has the least experience with the life of common people of any candidate in the race of either party.

OK, I see some resemblance in the hair, but even there Trump is sparse by comparison.

He may get his trail of tears with the forced march back to Mexico. Do you guys really buy that crap? "...this was the moment when the rise of the "illegals" began to slow and our nation began to heal..."

Bags I didn't say he was the common man. I said he speaks the language of the common man.

He got rich the old fashioned way. He inherited it.

A "Trail of Tears" back to Mexico and the Middle East would be fine by me. Don't you see that this is an invasion? The events in Europe should open everyones eyes. The time for politically correct bullshit is over.

Trump at his worst is only a minor course correction. You really don't want to see what is going to happen if a real demagogue gets into the mix.

Another similarity to Obama: He will overreach. The question is which way: left, right, or Trump?

Trump is a traitor to his class. Just like Jackson. His idea of taxing the hedge fund guys is making the Republican establishment pee in their pants.

I never realize how much FOX News and their commentators were part of the duopoly. I mean I knew it but I didn't realize how bad it was until I started listen to Megyn Bloody Kelly and the Wheelchair guy and see that they are not all that much different than Chris the Tingler Matthews and Rachael Mad Dog. They buy into the same parameters and spout the same bullshit. They are united in one thing.

Protecting the duopoly.

Trump will reach at things that will make Trump look good. That will get people to love him. Not the media. Not the chattering classes. Not the conservative pundit asswipes like George Will and Billy Kristol and the wheelchair guy.

The man in the street. The guy who can't get a job doing drywall because of Jose down at the Home Depot getting all the gigs. If Trump does something that makes them applaud him he will over reach.

Then is it an overreach? Or is it what the majority wants done?

Andrew Jackson loved his wife and defended her with honor. Unlike some unnamed individuals who completely lack honor.

Well, they are both Democrats.

Trump loved his wife. Each one of them. For a while. Until he traded up. Just sayn'

Not my style but I ain't a politician.

The Trail of Tears with the Mexicans being sent back in covered wagons crying and wailing does sound pretty cool though.

Think of the visuals. The ratings!

IT WOULD BE UUUUUGGGGGEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could make comparison that Trump is like Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

He says everything three times, sometime in broken sentences, and builds slowly advancing as if placing bricks and speaking to tards.

Should you ask me whence our problems, whence the problems of our nation, should you ask me I will tell you of these tremendous problems brought upon us.

I will tell you of these problems, of these multitudinous burdens, of the onus placed upon you, place upon you and your children.

I will tell you of the problems placed upon you and your children, of the multitudinous burdens set in place by unworthy agents. I will tell you of these agents, persons and their agencies. Gather 'round and I will tell you of these agencies unworthy. Agencies unworthy of trust that is placed with them. Gather 'round and I will tell you of this violated trust.

See? Repeaty and achingly progressive. Like Bolero.

The Rolling Stone story on Trump gives the impression that his wealthy dad, Fred Trump, didn't raise him to be a rich brat. He had to go to work learning building trades from the bottom up. Lots of hard work and common men can be found on job sites and he no doubt had to pull his weight to get along with them.

It's an interesting comparison but let's hope that Trump's popularity when it comes to FIRING! people doesn't translate to something he'd do to the common man.

I love how Trump always tells everyone how much money he has and what a winner he is - and yet makes it endearing . I guess its the NYC influence. Or maybe the NYC real estate world.

Trump makes them all seem like wimps: "I'll get it done, get out of my way and watch me"

"Oh no, it can't be done" "Oh heavens, oh my, think of the illegals" "Oh, it will cost too much" "Oh, we must be respectful to Mexico"

Wimps.
