How the world has changed Volume 167

"I am Howard Cosell speaking of Sports. I am here at the Battle of the Network stars speaking with the luscious Suzzane Somers and the virile Bruce Jenner."
"Oh Howard you are so cute. I want to take off your toupee and lick your bald Jewish head."
"Thank you Suzzane maybe later. So Bruce what do you think of Suzzane. Wouldn't you like to do her?"
"Do her? I want to be her!"
"WHAT?"
"Oh sorry. It's 1977. I am 38 years too early for this. Nevermind."

Mommy, why does Daddy cuss the TV and call it Howard?

It seems like only yesterday that I was watching Heather Thomas and Heather Locklear in the dunk tank. Loni Anderson. Erin Grey. Suzzane. Joyce DeWitt.

Where did the time go.

"Do her? I want to be her?"

I would change that second question mark to an exclamation mark.

But that juxtaposition between "to do" and "to be" is a very understated duality in life. Science has struggled on more than one occasion to parse the difference between what something is vs. what something does. Religion has grappled with the difference between sin (noun) and sinning (verb) which is like "to be" vs. "to do."

Bravo, Troop, for positing yet another deep philosophical conundrum in such an off-beat (or vice versa) context.
