Instapundit: The Donald and Bernie show

"When party outsiders feel ignored, a champion appears to take their interests to heart."
Political parties exist, first and foremost, to serve the interest of the insiders, while doling out just enough in the way of favors and ideological satisfaction to keep the party outsiders on the reservation. But when the members of the "Outer Party" feel sufficiently ignored, a champion appears who will take their interests to heart, or at least sound as if he does.

That's what's happening in both parties with the rise of Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., (actually, he identifies as a Socialist, but caucuses with, and apparently now is campaigning as, a Democrat) and Republican Donald Trump (actually he identifies mostly with himself, and campaigns mostly on TV talk shows). Each, in his own way, speaks to the concerns of constituencies within his party (and, interestingly, to some degree the other party) that are being ignored or dismissed by the insiders. Sanders is actually pretty close to what the Lefty base wants ruling us, but Trump just says things that many among the Right base want to hear someone say without hedging. I appreciate his candor, and his willingness to just say what he means, while all the other candidates try to say as little as possible of any real substance. I also think a business person could have a good perspective and skill set for the job, but Trump isn't the right one. He is all over the map issues wise, and in the past has supported very unconservative people and policies. He is not what the right base wants running things. They just love watching him duke it out with the enemy. Nobody has to trust him or vote for him to appreciate that theater.

In all reality, you have to be an utter and dismal fool to be a socialist/communist/leftist of any stripe. The idea that Sanders can bring people in the way he has been either speaks to the sheer strain of stupidity that this country is currently undergoing, or is just an example of how utterly nefarious leftism really is. I'm going with the latter.
