"Federal judge orders cancellation of Redskins’ trademark registrations"

"The cancellation doesn’t go into effect until the Redskins have exhausted the appeals process in the federal court system."
U.S. District Judge Gerald Bruce Lee’s decision affirmed an earlier ruling by the federal Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Last year, the appeal board declared in a 2-to-1 vote that the team’s moniker is offensive to Native Americans and therefore ineligible under the Lanham Act for status in the federal trademark registry...

“This is a huge victory. Getting this ruling from a U.S. District judge is a watershed event,” Witten (one of the attorneys for the Native Americans suing) said, adding that he doesn’t expect the war to be over anytime soon. “The team has been fighting this case so hard and leaving no stone unturned and scorching every square inch of earth that it’s hard to imagine they will not appeal.”...

Throughout the entire battle, the Redskins have argued that the team name honors Native Americans. Dan Snyder, the owner, has vowed that he will never change the name.

So what is the real disadvantage of having no trademark protection on the name "redskins"? Who would be afraid that Sears would steal some of their merchandizing on jerseys? If the name is really toxic, it has no value to anyone else, except to Mr. Snyder.

OTOH, the stage may be set to have some sort of league or hostile shareholder takeover. Something similar to the Sterling/Clippers circus also comes to mine.

Good for Snyder.

If there's any good news, it shows that the Federal judiciary, packed with Lefties, is out of control.

It will make term limits and other restrictions that much easier to pass.

I think it's time we do something about Cracker Barrel. Does a name like that reflect our values?

Ultimately, does loosing the trademark mean it will open the name to copying competitors, exposing the Redskins franchise to millions of dollars in loses?

I think they referred to that in the article.

Should a President who is supposed to represent all Americans be living in the White House?

I suggest we change it to just "Da House".

Too inner city. Remember, our little Messiah is from the high-toned, high rent section of town. He golfs, He Mom jeans, He can't hit a basket worth anything. He has a crese in his pants.

Call it Rainbow House. It's soo fabulous and sooooo him.

Quite the legal jujitsu for a judge named Gerald Bruce Lee.

Much like that asshat if Fatal Attraction, the SJWs will NOT be ignored.
What else explains this obsession with the Redskins? Why go after the Redskins and not the Atlanta Braves or the Cleveland Indians? Why are "Braves" and "Indians" okay whereas "Redskins" is not? "Redskins" is not a slur anymore than "Braves" or "Indians" is a slur. The picture of the Redskins' Indian is dignified as opposed to the Atlanta Braves and the Cleveland Indians cartoon mascots. Actual (not activist) Indians don't mind. It comes down to Snyder flipping the bird to the Washington DC establishment. That WILL NOT STAND! Good DAY, Sir.

That's right Bago, many of us are Crackers and we are shaped like barrels. That restaurant's name is highly insulting now that you have pointed it out.

Given the rate at which Indian activists are turning out to be slovenly mediocre white people trying to pass as Indian (or some other variety nonwhite box checkers) for the affirmative action bennies, there may actually be no Indian opposition to the Redskins. Might just be white people trying to get over on other white people, which is, basically, what the racism industry is all about anyway. White people using hired frontmen spokesmodels to get over on other white people.
