Faking Bad Update

Summer of Rum...
...the Mai Tai

Here's a side view, showing how I rendered the layering in plastic: a cloudy orgeat layer below with a rum float on top:

This was done as if it were golden rum. If I did another, I'd transition to dark rum.

Bags is getting rained on. I hope he doesn't panic, get nekkid and have a sexual encounter with a eucalyptus tree.

It rained hard down here too but it has let up. It's muggy. All that weather has a way of showing up in Colorado in few days so watch out Chip and April.

This moisture, headed for Colorado, will extend the May Miracle.

That used to be my favorite.

This is very convincing and the pineapple looks good enough to eat. And the weird thing is I'm judging if the pineapple is tinned or fresh because I'll know the difference when I eat it I will do no such thing. Paradox happened.

Saay, whatever happened to the great lime shortage? It was the most important thing in the world for a while last year. I depend on you people to keep me up to date on these things. Let's get crackin'.

Yea, it's been raining cats and beavers here. I've never remember it raining here in July, but we need it, and it's so nice and warm. It's like a rain in Hawaii where you don't mind walking in it. I've been using the inside time to get some welding done. I need the practice. I brought home a small TIG welder and a tank of Argon - like my ancestors have always done - so I can weld up a project I've been doing for some friends. Welding is cool and a great way to spend rainy days.

I love Mai Tais, and any other girly drinks. I can't drink straight anything, but put in some fruit and an umbrella, and I'm your huckleberry.

My girl is out of town or I WOULD be nekked. It seems like cheating to do it without her. Yes, I'm really that true.

The best part of the piece is a layer at the very bottom of the glass which "supports" the ice. This mimics how ice always floats a bit a in full glass. It's not very apparent in this one but will be in the Hurricane I'm presently making. It's a bit of an art because you have to waiting an indeterminant amount of time for the polymer to set enough to hold the "ice" up without completely hardening.

Mai Tais have that great almond flavor which comes from orgeat syrup. Some people use amaretto. I'm a bit sick of real Mai Tais right now, having had so many on Hawaii. I want to try to making a "synthetic" Mai Tai using rum, triple sec, almond extract in simple syrup. The next level of faking would be Everclear, carmel dye, orange oil, almond extract, sugar, and water.

Is this sold already?

chickelit said...

Not yet Chip. I'm going to use this tomorrow in a retail setting. Now doubt someone will either steal it or ask to buy it.

This one did sell, Chip. A woman's husband paid me $25 cash for it.
