"Hillary is like Coca-Cola’s Dasani water: She’s got a great distribution system, but nobody likes the taste"

Maureen Dow takes Hollywood's Ready for Hillary temperature.
IS Hollywood really ready to give a 67-year-old woman a leading role in a big-budget production?

Hillary Clinton’s campaign has echoes of various classic movies: “Single White Female,” with Hillary creepily co-opting the identity of the more trendy Elizabeth Warren; “My Fair Lady,” with Hillary sitting meekly and being schooled on how to behave by tyrannical Pygmalions (Iowa voters); “The Usual Suspects,” with Hillary’s hoodlums, Sidney Blumenthal and David Brock, vying to be Keyser Söze; and, of course, “How to Steal a Million,” a caper about a heist plotted by a couple that doesn’t need the money.

From a narrative point of view, Hollywood is more intrigued with the scenario of their old raffish Southern favorite, Bill Clinton, as the first First Lad than the earnest Midwestern Hillary as the first female POTUS. On TV, after all, women presidents are old hat. (read more)

Hillary is like a money grubbing Potemkin village.
It takes a Potemkin village to support her.

The word on the street here in east coast elite is they will support her, but plug their nose and but.

She is a whore but she isn't flyover grossie state.

I mean really? What is the alternate? Some neanderthal pube-please, that will never happen.

All the cool kids take their bad faith directions from vapid hollywood.

Your corrupt dictator has been selected on your behalf. No thinking. Thank you.

I see Titus doesn't take a break from hating "flyover" states. There is also the issue of either he visit Arkansas often (rather than flying over it), or is ignorant about geography. I'm thinking it is ignorance.

In the '90s, I could sort of understand the attraction to Hillary (although I did not share it). In the aughts, it puzzled me but I tried to figure out. Now, I've just given up. Given all the history and track record, it flat-out makes no sense to me, and thinking about it does nothing but rile me up. Best to leave that rock unturned over is my current policy with people. Thank God for the ubiquitous nature of cell phones! Gotta check for those messages or scan my calendar, y'know. ; )

"...Hillary sitting meekly..."

"...earnest midwestern Hillary..."

This is why a liberal - like Dowd - is unbearable even when she's criticizing another liberal. There isn't a meek bone in Hillary's horrid body. As for her being an earnest midwesterner - I suppose Dowd is alluding to midwestern straightforwardness - Hillary is a congenital liar.

When the Sidney Blumenthal memos to Hillary hit the news a few weeks back, I was surprisingly (to me) disgusted--but not surprised--because I didn't think I still had that in me. By way of explaining my reaction to my husband, I looked for online and sent him links to two old articles that had immediately jumped to my mind (wonder not: my husband is not a Clinton supporter, either, not now, and not in the '90s). Perhaps you will find them interesting, too, especially given the sources of what are, essentially, take-downs.

Both pieces are from 2003, by the way.

I have a hunch Althouse is going to endorse Hillary.

I don't know Lem, Althouse was a bit reflexive in defending Bernie Sanders.

That's actually an apt way of describing the issue: Hillary simply has no real, independent personality.
