Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt Support Shiloh's Wish To Be Called "John"

The couple's oldest biological child, who was assigned female at birth, joined brothers Maddox and Pax wearing sharp suits and short haircuts.

The eight-year-old's family fully supports their decision to self-identify — from an affinity for suits and ties to shorter hair to the name change. (Editor's Note: We have followed the Advocate's lead, and referred to John Jolie-Pitt as "they" as a gender-neutral pronoun to respect John's decision, whatever gender they may end up being.)

John (formally known as Shiloh)

I think "they" is probably a prescient term for what a multiple-identity mess this poor child will end up as.

I'm old enough to remember when Sonny & Cher brought out their 2 or 3 year old child "Chastity" to be introduced to the audience on their show. A beautiful little girl then, a mess now.

Drug addicted by age 18. Poor kid.

Why are the child's parents going public about this. It is a child, for goodness sake. Deserving of privacy, not a charm on mommy's bracelet of a life.

Sick parents, showing how uber lefty they are.

I feel bad for this kid.

I hope he finds some balance in his life.

Maybe she/he/they should go live with grandma:

"The self-possessed girl developed her unique, androgynous style early on and it reportedly confused her conservative Republican grandmother Jane Pitt. ...A source told the Evening Standard in 2012: 'Jane still insists on buying her fairy costumes and princess dresses, which Angelina finds very disrespectful'."

Yeah, poor confused old gal. Not.

Maybe the leaked email about Angelina is true. She is out of her mind.

Nonsense. When my kid was 6 she wanted to wear boys underwear and wanted to be called Robert. We kind of looked at each other and figured it was a phase. It was. She's 25 now and as girlie as you can possibly imagine.

The Jolie-Pitt kid is a child's imagination being escalated to the level of Social Justice Warrior status because of the fame and fandom.

He'll want a real working penis one day. Maybe surgery will have advanced to the point where men will be able to get penis transplants and augmentation.

I read the still underage Justin Bieber gave himself a jet plane for Christmas.

Now he will have his own pot plane I suppose.

Justin Beiber...just how does he rank as a celebrity? Seriously, he's a scrawny weasel. I must know by now that I am out of it. I only wish I could attract the money he does....Pbbbfffttt. :-)

Sure, but you probably did not broadcast this to the world in the most public sort of way (treating it as her new reality), and then encourage her to actually try to be a boy.

Jeez Hollyweird- Doesn't Warren Beatty have a young son who dresses like a girl?

Child abuse.

Children should be encouraged to use their imaginations, but not taken seriously. Making life altering decisions before you are adult(ish) is just stupid. Let the children be children. Have imaginary friends and flights of fantasy.

If your child pretended she was a unicorn, would you graft a horn onto her head.

Your job as a parent is to mold your child into a functioning adult who can live a happy life, work, and contribute to society. It isn't to use your kid as some sort of fodder in the cultural wars we seem to be constantly waging with each other.

No, we didn't advertise it. Oh, some of her friends new and some of our friends new, but it was funny and cute and frankly, we knew it was a phase. We are no ones compared to the celebrities, so outside of that reality distortion field, this was nothing to us. So when I read this article, that was the first thing that came to my mind because it's a phase.

Sexuality is determined not just by nature but also by the triggers in the environment. In Victorian and Edwardian times, artistic people led circumscribed and repressed sex lives. Yeats and Shaw were virgins until thirty, and Ruskin had a morbid fear of pubic hair. . In Hollywood, self indulgence is the new form of respectability. I don't think massive amounts of cocaine is the best way to handle mood swings, and drugging and raping women is not the best way to express one's libidinal urges, but artists like to explore the boundaries.......Angelina and Brad's kid will have some problems, but, on the other hand, she'll be fantastically rich and good looking. We should all have such problems.

It's not a phase; it's a cause célébrité.

Total agreement with DBQ here.

& William - yes - this kid will be wealthy beyond comprehension with good (not good - amazing) looks and famous parents. He/she can indulge in any life he/she desires. boy one week, half girl/unicorn the next.

The more I look at the photos of Shiloh/John, the more the kid looks to me to be striking a pose. It could be she simply has a streak of actor-ham in her that's a mile wide.

"Assigned" at birth strongly suggests that the kid was born intersex and maybe had surgery. I have very little tolerance for adult trans types - many of them seem to have spun serious personality issues (usually narcissistic and/or histrionic) into a self-selected gender dysphoria that only worsens and encourages all the most anti-social aspects of their underlying emotional issues - but the relatively rare intersex people have an actual biological basis for their dysphoria, and for that I have a good deal of sympathy.

The parents, on the other hand, ought to be horsewhipped for letting their kids' personal issues become tabloid fodder. I'm increasingly convinced that celebrities' kids ought to be raised like the hypothetical children of comic-book superheroes - buried deep inside some sort of secret identity, lest they encounter the tabloid/paparazzi equivalent of being "stuffed into the fridge".
