Sunday Morning With Van Morrison

Shenandoah, that great classic hymn to the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia.  Beautiful song about a beautiful place.

I saw the Shenandoah Valley from the Blue Ridge Parkway one summer day, atop the Blue Ridge Mountains.  I parked my motorcycle and sat on a ridge top for half of he day, just staring at the Shenandoah Valley.   It may be the most beautiful place I've seen.

Here is Paul Robeson's version, sung in his magnificent voice.

Blessings of the day to you!

We are heading back to Florida today. I may not be able to touch base depending on wifi stops. It will be easier to tweet for me. @lemang01

Oh Shenandoah, I love your daughter...

That line always confused me. The river has a daughter?

Nick, I have not seen the canyons of southern Utah, and most of the rest of that state. It's on the list of places we may ride to this summer.

Ricpic - that line alludes to a single young woman, with whom the singer is in love with. But you alredy knew that.

Make Moab, Utah your home base. Easy access to Arches National Monument and Canyonlands National Park. Unbelievable.

Also Moab is big enough that they've got some upscale eating there as well as the usual burger joints. Good library, bookstores, super supermarket. I almost relocated.

The canyons of southern Utah sounds parched but I remember driving through lush valleys fed by the Green River.

I have seen the canyons of Christy but only on video.

I think they lost several miners in there. Also several minors. But that's another story.

We flew two planes from Denver over Bryce Canyon, a Piper Cub (us) and Cessna 172, also a truck with equipment. To lake Mead.

The Piper has retractible landing gear, and man, does that make a big difference.

Houseboat on lake Mead in September when most people have already gone.

Swam, hiked all around, water skied, camped, spent time on the houseboat, raced around in motorboat. A blast.

One of the more memorable vacations I've had. But I failed to catch a fish. Photos of people with large fish all over the place. But not me. :-(

I wanted to kill a goddamn fish so bad I was ready to strangle one with my hands.

They mocked me. I knew they were out there laughing underwater. I could hear them, hahaha bubble bubble bubble hahaha bubble bubble bubble hahaha nanner nanner nanner, you can't catch me hahaha bubble bubble bubble.

I could hear them splashing around.

Bastards.

So I bought a trout and fried its ass.

And ate it.

I also made a splendid mixed green and vegetable salad dressed with my own concoction for fifteen people tossed in large black plastic garbage bag.

On the way back one of the riders in the Cessna could not hold his water and wanted to land to relieve, over the radio we're all "Piss in a bottle, Bitch!"

But his self-consciousness regarding his penis size caused both planes to land. Once landed it's all, check the weather check the weather check the weather check the weather check the weather because that is what pilots do. Flying is mostly about checking the weather conditions.

What ricpic said. Moab is one of the few towns w/ several venues for hard liq1uor. But, also visit Bryce and Zion. And, the scenic route between Moab and Bryce is a great road for a cycle and takes you through Robber's Roost and Circleville, the hideout and birthplace of Butch Cassidy.

Went to Zion once and hiked up the River. It was an all day thing, i.e. you can't camp there overnight without a permit, so if you go in the AM, you had to make sure you didn't go too far, because you had to return to your starting point before sundown.

It was a blast. I recommend it to anyone. The water is cold though.
