"Prince Charles Calls on Muslim Leaders to End Persecution of Christians"

"The Prince of Wales has condemned the persecution of Christians in the Middle East and called on Muslim leaders to help end the "indescribable tragedy" in Syria and Iraq. He called on leaders of all faiths to ensure their followers respect people of other religions rather than "remaining silent".

Speaking in a video played at the House of Lords ahead of the publication of a new report that claims that Christians are the "most persecuted religious minority" in the world and that freedom of religion is most under threat in Muslim nations.

The Prince added that religion is essential to "our future as a free society", adding that "horrendous and heart-breaking" events in Syria and Iraq had brought persecution "to the forefront of the world's news".

He said: "We have learnt with mounting despair of the expulsion of Christians, Muslims and Yazidis from towns and cities that their ancestors have occupied for centuries.

"Sadly, incidents of violence in Iraq and Syria are not isolated. They are found throughout some, though not all, of the Middle East; in some African nations; and in many countries across Asia."

I can't imagine that "muslim leaders" give a rat's ass what Prince Charles has to say about anything so there must be some other, better, explanation for the royal exhortation.

To put it in the news, for the benefit of Western eyes, would be my guess.

Hey! Who says the House of Windsor is of no use?

I, for one, will buy no consumer product of British origin unless it's got one of those royal seal-of-approval thingies on it.

That's two.

Can he make the trifecta?

Let's see.

Hmmmmm. How about . . .

How about . . .

THE PARADES!!!!

LIKE THE CHANGING OF THE GUARD!!!!

THE WEDDINGS!!!!

THE FUNERALS!!!!!

Nobody puts on a show like the Brits.

Trifecta achieved!

I mean, how fucking cool would it be to be the fat guy playing the bass drum who gets to wear the leopard skin?

Turns out they're not all fat.

See?

My mistake.

The Charles they need is Chinese Gordon with about 50 divisions behind him.

Well, good for him.

The value of this, by itself, isn't so great. But a drumbeat of pressure on "Muslim leaders" can be useful.

At some point, the supposedly "responsible" leaders must choose where they stand, and be held accountable.

It is a lot more than the Jug Eared Jesus has done.

I don't think you can even get Muslims to stop persecuting other Muslims. Gloria Steinem's efforts to get transgendered bathrooms installed in the Great Mosque have gone nowhere. Prince Charles will have similar success.

And come to think of it, who else is there in Britain to suggest religion is essential? Not the archbishop of Canterbury.

Behind the official government, well behind argely atheist modern business London, squeaks an archaic voice whispering, "crusade."

Britain is sending advisors, its army back to Iraq.

Britain is well inured to terrorism and outright war drawn across religio-political lines by experience with Ireland. Even though in the west the concept of kingship is ceremonial and exists out of pure tradition it still resonates outside the west. It is possible his utterances have more weight outside the west than in the west.

Obviously it will have no effect on ISIS, longing for end-of-world ultimate battle, but it could have some effect on saner eastern leaders, if there is such a thing. They know the west already has, already used, what they long long to attain.

I cringe whenever Charles speaks. From my pov he's a poorly told joke. And yet I can see some trace of usefulness, if only to say, "boo!"

Good for him. Won't happen.
Radical Islam and moderate Islam are a blurred line and a sham.

The Muslim world does nothing about the crazy in their midst. That crazy is built into the Koran. Their only success is convincing politically correct weasels like Ben Aflack to make excuses for the ROP, and to guilt normal humans into thinking they cannot speak out against Islam in any way.

I was in Nashville on Monday and had lunch w/ a college friend I have not seen in 40 years. Lou is now a cinematographer. Had some great stories about shooting films. No blockbusters but he's worked w/ some big time stars. I was SO happy when he told me 2 of my favorite actors are great people. Alan Arkin is down to earth, gracious, generous. And Ann Margaret is a real sweetheart and regular gal. Anyway, Lou's grandparents emigrated here from Syria in the late 20's. His grandpa was a Catholic and made certain all his kids and grandkids went to Catholic colleges. He told Lou and others that this was going to eventually happen. That's why he left Syria almost a hundred years ago. Lou said grandpa is dead and he's glad he died before seeing the savagery he knew would occur.
