I got through as much as possible. Can't take Stewart's holier than thou leftist semantics privilege.

Shouting Thomas said...

I watched about 30 seconds and had to bail.

Identity politics is the ultimate clickbait and stimulus for shrieking insult fights.

There's nothing new to say. This shit was beaten to death 40 years ago.

I ain't giving my privilege back, if I do indeed have it, so what's the point?

Amartel said...

"White privilege" are societal advantages and presumptions that favor Caucasians and are not available to noncaucasians. Once you drill down on the exact advantages and presumptions these things mostly turn out to be Rich and Middle Class People privilege and/or People Who Were Raised Correctly privilege.

Talking about white privilege does keep the racial angle alive, though. It serves to (1) perpetuate white privilege as a concept by introducing it to new listeners and cementing the existence of the concept through vehement repetition and, of course, (2) perpetuate nonwhite resentment. Stuff Lefties Like.

The Dude said...

I have it, am thankful for it, and if someone wants it, molon labe, motherfuckers!

Amartel said...

O'Reilly is such a clown. He'll spend half of his next show deconstructing the goddam body language and fishing for compliments from guests. Feh.

Eric the Fruit Bat said...

I'd be very happy to be a good-looking black guy, thankyouverymuch.

Unknown said...

The topic is beat to death. Skip ahead to the remedy:
What is it?

Why don't we see uber-wealthy Jon Stewart handing out cash in poor black neighborhoods?
Will that help? Come on Jon, you're the expert super-genius with your finger on the pulse and your arm up culture's bottom. What is the answer?
Surely there's more to this that expecting some royal admission of guilt. An admission by the way, that the left require every damn day. Repent!

Or course it is difficult to raise yourself out of poverty.
No one denies that. Yet, in this country, (where people all around the world will do anything to get here) people do it, regardless of skin color.

Jon Stewart personifies white guilt. 'Just admit you're a rat bastard privileged white person (scum!) so that I can get my audience to clap.'

so tired. come on Jon - what are YOU doing to end the cycle of poverty and welfare here and around the world? You ninny.

When I'm on Comedy Central for Futurama or South Park and intro trumpets blare for Jon Stewart I'm out of there before the first trumpet phrase finishes, boom, I'm like Pavlov's dog over here except a lot faster.

The last time I allowed Jon Stewart words to enter my ears, oh, some few years back, he said something about corporations ignoring their social contract, so glibly inserted it became the basis of discussion rather than being attacked. *click*

Forever.

Social contract. What a vacuous, malleable, perfectly liberal construction.

My impulse is pull off a white glove and slap him then pop my hollow mouth with a flat hand like a cartoon French guy. ))) pop (((

Whatever social contract a corporation would have is codified in law at great length, dispute and trouble. Not some evanescent tissue Jon Stewart pulls out of his ass at any given conversational moment. Fuck him and his whole way of talking. To even talk to him requires deconstructing every sentence, every presumption, attack avery bogus study, correct his language distortions. Who wants that? Why bother?

O'Reilly is doing this for his own reason of self-aggrandizement, from whatever angle you look it is unattractive.

I would hope he notice his ratings dive whenever he does this. But apparently not.

Nobody notices when I click off. I do not have one of those Neilson boxes, or whatever, I don' t know how they discover their ratings, but I do wish my click offs would be noticed because I do so with extreme prejudice. It's not just a regular clickity-click, no, it's a "get off my teevee right now!" click.

Lem the artificially intelligent said...

If they are not prepared to suggest compulsory mass bleaching of blacks (and Latinos I suppose) and/or the tanning/darkening of whites, I don't see what the discussion serve other than like ST says... titillation nation.

Unknown said...

It was kinda funny to see OReilly, who is notorious for his interrupting his guests - get interrupted over and over by that pompous odious leftist windbag Stewart.

Chip Ahoy said...

Although a discussion otherwise about white privilege would be quite interesting because I do see a lot of that.

It's none of the government's business how the shifting populations sort their various privileges. If anything, government would passively reflect whatever is going on not guiding or steering or balancing or rebalancing or even measuring anything in any way.

And people like Jon Stewart who want to make it governments business to actively sort through racial demographic shifting with policies that set weight on economic scales and opportunity are demanding power given to people that do not deserve it and abuse it.

To Jon Stewart, sort your own racial problems yourself and leave government out of it. You do not have my permission to use my government and empower them for any of this. But you take it anyway from me and everybody else, for yourself, for your party, for your idea of overarching government involved in everyday affairs. Knock it off and see a psychiatrist you control freak.

Unknown said...

LOL Lem @ 4:30
Now THAT is a remedy.

Unknown said...

Jon Stewart's party: good at extracting guilt.

Bad at providing ideas that pull people out of poverty.

bagoh20 said...

Do you ever run into people who bitch about something, but as soon as you offer them a solution, they seem to dedicate themselves to knocking it down or diminishing it so that they can get back to their passion, which is bitching about what OTHER people do or don't do? I know quite a few people like that, and it becomes clear right away that solving the problem is not really the point or even of much interest to them.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Problems give us purpose!

I think O'Reilly's right (the compromise at the end was fair), but he's right in that you'd have to work pretty hard and much of the problem is mentality. I think it would still be harder for a black to "seem" as fit for a job as a white or Asian guy, especially if he didn't polish his speech. That's the biggest part of it. And then there would still be the need to overcome the perception that because blacks aren't as successful, they don't work as hard at the right things (especially education, which is reflected first in speech).

But if enough of them did well, then that perception would change. And Stewart's right that the fact that they were dragged over here in chains probably contributes as much to an insurmountable shame and self-fulfilling prophecy as anything else. The people who chose to came here brought the O'Reilly mindset with them, and that persists for as many generations as the shame of servitude and the Middle Passage exists.

bagoh20 said...

Nobody alive knows anyone who was brought over in chains, or who's parents were, or whose grandparents were, etc. It's not a real association for living Blacks. If they see themselves that way, it is because they choose to. Asians and Irish, who's ancestors were treated like slaves and often worse don't have such an association with their self worth. Many immigrants were chased out of their home country. Jews have a history of being treated like a virus or vermin, and yet they still have high high regard for their humanity and self-worth, and have high standards for themselves.

No, this is a cultural trait just like many other ethnic groups have others. It's learned, passed on, and reinforced by liberals and media, and it effects many to their core, but it is self-inflicted.

I believe Blacks also consider themselves to have better than average musical ability, a natural coolness, soulfulness and athletic advantage. They choose to self-ascribe these attributes too. The problem is that they simply have fallen for the seductive and achievement-robbing cloak of victimhood. Those who shed it, have no problem succeeding as well as anyone else. Likewise, people of other groups who adopt it have similar bad outcomes. It's simply a more commonly accepted lie among Blacks to their own disadvantage. You are who you accept you are.

bagoh20 said...

It seems to me though that many Blacks are moving away from this sensibility, or outgrowing it. This may be one of the few good outcomes from Affirmative Action policy. Even if some Blacks in the past were given unfair advantage in some jobs or other slots, there is a reservoir of success from that which is a couple generations thick now, That has to help convince some of them they are not inherently victims of history, and that the future has options for them and their progeny.

Today their is still some white privilege, but there is also black privilege. Just walk into any government office in a multicultural city and behold the lack of diversity.

The important thing is that we are poised now to move beyond the fake divider of race - if some who are addicted to it will simply break the habit.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Good point, Baggie. No psychological traits are ever passed on from parent to child. A parent who takes risks (like leaving their families and traversing treacherous oceans for the sake of a promising ideal) would never leave behind children more likely to take risks, also. It totally explains the non-entrepreneurial spirit of America. We're a risk-averse nation, but not because our ancestors made it that way. I mean, if that's what you want to believe, then why not?

The thing is, you're partially right. But partially right also means partially wrong. THe important thing, however, is that you believe what you say. That's all that matters in America. True belief. LIke the pomo progs who truly believe that everyone's fate is simply a matter of circumstance.

The immigrants to America were also overwhelmingly from poor, and unsuccessful lineage. They were decidedly not successful at adapting or taking advantage of their home situation, yet they broke free of all that history. Why? I would suggest it was because they suddenly saw promise and opportunity, and that ethos took over their culture. It became how they saw themselves. It was not who they were genetically. They saw success and self-sufficiency not only as possible, but it became who they wanted to be, who they wanted their children to be, and who they expected to be. They reinforced it in everything: stories, books, songs, symbols of all kinds. It became their culture - a brand new culture - completely different from what their ancestors had.

After the 60's. Black were essentially given a similar opportunity, but some people found them useful as victims, and they, as well as many Blacks, reinforced another culture, and unfortunately it caught on, and it's still here.

In aviation, you learn that you tend to land where you are looking, regardless of what you try to do otherwise. I think success is like that. If you see your future, your opportunities, and your responsibilities a certain way, then you are much more likely to end up on that landing field.

Any group can vastly improve their future through building and nurturing a culture of self-sufficiency and responsibility. It done all the time in smaller groups like companies, or sports teams, etc.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

That last comment reads like an ad for a political campaign. Which is a great way of saying "no psychological traits are genetic!". (And of course is still total nonsense).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Causes_of_schizophrenia#Genetics

The most powerful demonstration of the power of belief is your belief that every American is a Bill Gates in disguise. What a wonderful it would be if that were true. I wish I could discover my inner Bill Gates. And why doesn't your own net worth match his? I mean, obviously we all have the same potential and talents when it comes to making money. Just not in terms of athletics, artistic ability, etc., etc., etc. But every man's inner entrepreneur is exactly the same.

Shouting Thomas said...

I've had no patience for a very long time with the liberal insistence that whites are always responsible for the problems of blacks.

Really, it doesn't matter.

If blacks are incapable of being responsible for their own lives, then they are fucked. Nobody can solve their problems for them.

This entire conversation is corrupt. Leave blacks alone. Leave them alone to solve their own problems. If we do, they will.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

I just think slogans never solve problems, especially problems that are more complex than the either/or thinkers make them out to be. But be sure to go tell all the non-Bill Gateses, non-doctors, non-lawyers, that they need to stop choosing not to be winners. Yep, that'll go down well.

Again, if everyone has the same money-making potential, whether genetic, social, or whatever, what made you choose to defeat your own destiny to be just like the biggest "winner", Bill Gates? How much less than him do you have/make and why did you choose that precise level of failure?

bagoh20 said...

By your logic, all of Bill Gates ancestors and progeny were and will be the richest people on Earth.

I come from a long line of poverty. When I was kid, many of my relatives still used outhouses. I don't know where I got my entrepreneurial genes. Hey, did Bill Gates dad ever deliver milk in Pennsylvania in the late fifties?

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

If you believe Blacks' main problem is that they suffer from a genetic inferiority and that's just too bad for them, then you keep voting Democrat, because that's pretty much the basis of their platform.

I think most sensible people believe that a 350-year lag in being allowed basic freedom creates a strong institutional lag when it comes to educating a group of people in the ways of success and creating the networks that ensure its strength in your community. Most Americans believe this, as well, so it's not controversial.

Of course, it's easy for all of us to be aggravated at all the stupid individual choices that reinforce this every day. But to then say it's all about nothing other than individual choices is balderdash.

People who hate institutional (and the more controversial, genetic) explanations say it's all about choices, but they really mean values. And to say that a community's values aren't driven by its own circumstances is, again, bullshit. If you grow up just trying to avoid gunshots every day you'd better believe that your chances of developing the values imparted to honors students are much, much lower.

Shouting Thomas said...

Blacks have a number of employment choices somewhere down the ladder besides being Bill Gates. We all do.

The profession in which I worked before I retired continues to advertise more than 5,500 hundred jobs every day in the New York City metro area.

It's a well paying job. Anybody can learn the essentials for free online. Certification tests are cheap. Build a decent demo site and you'll land a starting job at $50,000. Five years experience and you'll make $125,000.

Corporations aren't avoiding hiring blacks. They are desperately trying to hire blacks to get the EEOC and predatory plaintiff's lawyers off their backs. Blacks have every possible quota advantage in the job market. All they have to do is apply themselves.

Quit making excuses for blacks. I have no fucking idea why white boys like you feel so damned fucking sanctimonious for making excuses for blacks.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

By your logic, all of Bill Gates ancestors and progeny were and will be the richest people on Earth.

No. That's by no one's logic. Or by the logic of someone who thinks human genetics is an exercise in creating clones. And even if you did believe that, a clone in one era might not have the same opportunity for their talents to be as fruitful as one in another era. If your mind is completely geared toward computers, being born in 1850 or 2150 might not be as helpful as being born in 1950.

I come from a long line of poverty. When I was kid, many of my relatives still used outhouses. I don't know where I got my entrepreneurial genes. Hey, did Bill Gates dad ever deliver milk in Pennsylvania in the late fifties?

Bill Gates' dad was a successful lawyer. No one knows what makes people take the risks and become as canny as the next "entrepreneur", but if you come from a community of well educated professionals, then your chances of attaining that station is much greater. And all that's necessary for becoming what is thought of as "successful" (and definitely in the top decile economically) in America.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

No one cares what you believe, S. Beliefs are not facts. I stated the facts, I put them together in a way that makes sense, and you have no argument against it. I could be wrong in my conclusion, it's often an annoying conclusion to draw, but I'm not as persuaded by the power of my own emotions as if they could create facts as you are.

Sometimes I am, but I'm in a logical mood tonight. Circumstances actually matter as much as belief.

There's a man too emotional to know what is and is not a fact when it comes to what "sensible people believe", the historical timeline of American slavery, and what it was possible for people to have developed during that time.

Yep. You're a completely rational man. I hear all sorts of sound reason in between the cries of "asshole", "shit", "fuck", "shoving up… ass", etc., etc., etc. All that verbal abuse marks you as a man who doesn't really make pornography out of a simple conversation and is instead imbued with great special wisdom.

Seriously, how do you get through the day with that much anger? I'm not seeing any emotion in what I'm saying, just questions. I'm a curious guy! (I realize that you're not, and that complicates things).
