Sunday Morning With Van Morrison

See if you can pick out a word here and there; it adds to the pleasure of listening to true genius.

The western world is filled with people who believe every word ever sung by Bob Dylan is magic, profound, and important. Those people are the paleo-hippies; standing at their walkers, singing along to All Along The Watchtower and Tangled Up In Blue as if the very code of life was in Dylan's lyrics. It isn't, sorry.

But Van Morrison, now that's a different thing. That's where the beauty and relevance are. That's where the phrase "trapped in the sixties" has never belonged, like it belongs to the Dylan acolytes. The Dylan acolytes; you can see them riding into a concert venue on their weasel scooters, wearing their Hunter S. Thompson drugged gazes, though not revealing that the drugs are now synthroid and statins.

Enjoy the music, enjoy the blessings of the day.

I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with you about the Dylan thing and will keep trying to quietly disprove it.

There's room in the van for Dylan fans.

No it isn't.

And here I sit so patiently
Waiting to find out what price
You have to pay to get out of
Going through all these things twice.

And by "sit here", I mean "lean on my walker", snorting my crushed up synthroids and shooting statins.

Pardon me, I have to go charge up my Hoveround.

I don't mind Dylan.

But, the folks who think that he invented the musical forms that he plays are incredibly misinformed.

And, the god worship think is very annoying.

I've played that Van Morrison tune with several bands.

I saw Van's show 40+ yrs ago in San Francisco. I didn't need Synthroid and Viagra then and don't need them now. Sure does help though.

There is no comparison between Bob Dylan and Van Morrison.

Bob Dylan is the most over hyped and over rated musician of the last fifty years.

Van Morrison is a classic. His longevity and talent are Hall of Fame caliber.

I hope you put up a couple of my favorites in future posts. Including
"Cleaning Windows", "Cyrus Avenue", "In the Garden" and "Rave on John Donne."

I know that many Van Morrison fans can't stand Bob Dylan. I'd interested to know what Van Morrison thinks of Bob Dylan. Here's what he thought of him back in '66: Them play Dylan.

Van Morrison had an album and two songs entitled "Inarticulate Speech of the Heart," IIRC.

Bob Dylan used a tremendous number of words.

That's just one of many important differences, right there.

No question, Van Morrison is the epitome of theme rock. Dylan wrote tunes, Van Morrison wrote and sang Epics. Like this one: Van Morrison original and The Doors' cut By Jim Morrison, but after Jim died on the posthumous album "Alive She Cried" of outtakes and cuts from earlier sessions.

Some of us might not have survived if not the words of John Fogerty and Jim Morrison played on tiny little tape recorders when AFVN wouldn't play it.

I may owe them my life. Or at least the happiest part in an otherwise grim era.
