Manilow: “I Sing with Dead People” Duets with the Deceased

"Oh my god. Hilarious. Barry Manilow has recorded an album of duets with dead people. They are all dead. Dead, dead, dead. And he’s releasing it a few days before Halloween on October 27th."

"After all, Barbra Streisand and Tony Bennett have duets albums. Why not Barry? Of course, Barbra did resurrect Elvis for her album. Now it’s Barry’s turn to be the crypt keeper."

let's just cut to the chase shall we. Instead of having a living singer singing duets with dead ones. Let's just have two dead singers singing duets instead. For example, pair up Nat King Cole with Elvis. Sammy Davis Jr. with Jimmy Hendrix. Jerry Garcia with Frank Sinatra. See? We have the technology. Shit, if they can bring back Michael Jackson to do a solo in hologram, clearly this isn't a technological issue. Everyone wins and frankly, I wish Barry Manilow would just drop dead. Thank you.

Oddly, the only people who would agree to sing with Barry are dead.

You could not get away from this guy on the radio in the mid-70s. He was music and he wrote the songs.

I was in Vegas once and he was the headliner at some casino. Maybe Caesars I forget.

Anyway they actually had a Barry Manilow gift shop with just Barry Manilow stuff. Books. Key chains. Tote bags. And worst of all. Bobble heads. There was about 500 bobble heads in the store. Well someone slammed the door to the back room really hard and all of the bobble heads started too move and shake in exact unison.

It was one of the scariest things I have ever seen.

I saw him in concert in the 1980s. It was one of my favorite concerts, but then it was around Christmas time, and he did his normal set, an encore set, and then came out a third time to do carols. It was fun.

Still, I won't buy the album.

Admittedly Manilow does schmaltz, but it's sincere schmaltz.

Tony Bennett just did a duet album with Lady Gaga. Here's a great line from the NY Post review:

Gaga gives it her all, Bennett sounds like he's watching TV.

I see Manilow sings with Durante. Durante was a great singer, and I mean that, listen to September Song. But he also sings with Monroe. To my knowledge Monroe never sang a note.

He should have stuck to commercials.

Trooper, Manilow was the exclusive @ the Vegas Hilton but that was recently, ~2002-08. It's not even the Vegas Hilton now. I liked the place because it was off the strip but on the monorail if you didn't want to walk or cab. There are always people giving away their monorail cards for the day or even sometimes a couple days. I paid maybe 20% of the time. Haven't ridden it in 5 years or so.

Exactly. I actually don't mind it in small doses in unenclosed areas where I don't feel trapped. It reminds me of an era.
