Always liked her.

Her eponymous rice dish is especially nice, too.

Check out Mireille Mathieu on the same song.

I really hate it when singers don't use good diction. I can't understand a word she's saying.

Thanks for making me look that up, Sixty :(

Will do, rh.

Rabel, per Wiki, the title loosely translates into looking at life through rose-colored glasses or a rosy glow, or something.

Apparently she died France's wealthiest woman, and I'm all the eh.

Her voice is more a warbler than a little sparrow innit.

J'aime "Non, je ne regrette rien" mieux.

Grace Jones owns this song. Skip to 5:43

La BEA on hoze, la BEA on hoze, la BEA on hoze, la BEA on hoze, la BEA on hoze.

Who can just sit there and not sing along? Huh? Personne! That's who.

Here's Piaf singing the song on the Ed Sullivan show in 1952, looking much sturdier than usual.

To get an idea of just how small she was, here she is with Marlene Dietrich, who was about 5'4".

My daughter's theme song. :-)

Why? We liked the name of the main character from the movie Chocolat.

My wife always wanted to give her daughter the middle name rose.

Though both familiar with this song, it wasn't until a friend asked if this is where we got the name from that we realized it sure sounded a lot like the name of the song.

Speaking of children, we had another one born yesterday afternoon. A boy named Oliver. All are well, but a fair bit exhausted.

Congratulations, Paddy and family :)
Such a sweet time. And one of each; very lucky.

Am, Eartha Kitt has a luscious voice. I'm not familiar with her oeuvre, but I love Santa Baby.

Lydia, she is quite petite. I think there is a strain of French people who are petite.

They say that when you blind and cage a nightingale, their tunes become more expressive and beautiful. Something like that seems to go on with the great female singers. They all had such wretched lives. Their relationships with men mirror those of prostitutes with their pimps. Even sunny singers like Doris Day and Debbie Reynolds got taken to the cleaners by the men in their lives. Comedians don't have happy childhoods and singers don't have happy marriages......I'm waiting for the tell all book about Edie Gorme.
