Trailer: ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’

"E.L. James’ novel Fifty Shades of Grey made sexy sexy again. Not only did it put a 21st-century spin on the bodice-rippers your mom used to read in secret, but it made it OK to read them in public, as any public transit rider or plane passenger can tell you. Today, the trailer for the film adaptation was released."

I probably shouldn't say this out loud, but I know you guys can keep a secret. All businessmen operate like that in the bedroom. We have to, because it's part of our secret oath we take in the smokey backrooms of our sick capitalist worlds that the rest of you never see. It's where we turn the big wheels of the military industrial complex and smoke cigars and figure out how to screw people over. We're not bad people - we just have a role to play. I must admit that we do enjoy it though, especially this stuff.

Not interested. Not sure where the term "sexy" comes into this. Also, we always could read smutty bodice rippers in public.

I still do not thing that women will go to movie theaters for this. It's one thing to read the books either because you like it, the horror is fascinating, or you want to see what the fuss is about. But you're still reading it inside your own head, if you're in "public" or not.

I might end up being wrong and it might be huge in theaters but what are you going to do? It's not like going to see male dancers with your girlfriends, it's like reading the naughty parts of the novel you're reading out loud to your girlfriends and No One Does That.

Has anyne ever read Jane Eyre as an adult. Nothing overt ever happens, but there's a substratum of sensuality in the prose that gives the book a kind of porno quality. What's really disturbing is that this novel, beloved by women of all ages, is an elaborate castration fantasy. Poor Lord Rochester keeps getting chopped up as the novel progresses......The erotic fantasies of women aren't much fun.

Looks like teenie-boppers playing grown-ups.

uh, there is fetish sadomasochism porn that can be gleaned from the internet for free is there not? So this movie is being made why? Oh that's right, it's socially acceptable now to enjoy these kinds of brown cover books out in public and if made into movies, Oh my, so edgy.

Bingo times three. We're degenerating quickly.

(No thanks to the trailer, my brain already has enough junk I can't un-see.)

Hammer Films cast the best "bodice-rippers" if you know what I mean.
