'Radio Host Fired After Racist Twitter Rant Calling Black People “Animals”'

"Opie & Anthony radio show host Anthony Cumia has been fired by satellite radio company SiriusXM, which cited his "racially charged" and "hate-filled" remarks on Twitter as the reason."
Cumia's response Friday on Twitter included an obscenity in relation to SiriusXM. He said he was fired over material that was not aired and was not illegal.

Earlier this week, Cumia posted Tweets and photos about what he said was an attack on him as he took photos in Times Square.

He said a woman, angered at being photographed, called him a "white mother [expletive]" and then repeatedly punched him. He said he defended himself without hitting back.
The second link goes to Buzzfeed, were some of the offensive tweets are posted. This is not the first time a radio personality has been kicked off the air for remarks considered offensive. Imus was fired in 2007 over racially insensitive remark, but he managed to return. I would imagine the same will happen here. I predict Cumia will return to radio.

I used to be a big fan of Opie and Anthony until they pulled the Sex for Sam stunt where they had people have sex in St Patrick Cathedral.

They have been fired at least twice before for being outrageous. Once in the Sex for Sam and once in Boston for broadcasting that the mayor was dead.

They made it back to radio both times.

But this time might be different.

He should realize that white men have lost the rights to freedom of speech.

That was one seriously unhinged rant. His claim that he wasn't taking pictures of the woman looks like BS since she is the only thing of interest in the frame. He also failed to report the 'assault' to the police.

I assume he was drunk and has some unresolved racial issues that needed airing.

These guys get fired as part of their act, as Trooper York says.

Talking bluntly about black people, and calling them whatever name you want is the Lenny Bruce issue of our era. What a fucking cowardly era it is.

Somebody will come along soon to tear down this edifice of bullshit.

Kissing black racists' asses, in the manner of ARM, is the ugly, cowardly idiot pastime of this era. And dumb fucks like ARM actually take pride in their cowardice and self-loathing. Talk about your "unresolved racial issues!"

I subscribe to Sirius Radio.

Sirius has multiple comedy channels, including Raw Dog, that feature absolutely brutal comedy that ruthlessly mocks all the favorite targets of leftists... that is, religion, conservatives, marriage, etc. There are absolutely no boundaries and no limitations on what comedians say, in particularly, about the Catholic Church.

As this incident shows, blacks have superior status here. They cannot be ridiculed. At least not by whites.

Where is the guy who just doesn't give a shit and will tear down this wall?

So what? What kind of "normal" human being goes into a rage and begins beating someone who has taken their picture? What sort of other "normal" people would also try to beat up someone who had taken a picture.

First of all taking someone's photo in public is not an illegal activity. You are even allowed to take photos up random women's dresses

Second the reaction of the lady (and that is really stretching the concept) is over the top. If you didn't want your photo taken, you kindly go up to the person and tell them so and ask that they delete it. That is what NORMAL human beings do.

You can have all sorts of reasons for not wanting your photo taken. I don't like photos of myself anyway. You can be afraid that you might become an internet meme and become a laughing stock. Her irrational and violent reaction was likely because she doing something illegal at the time or she is wanted for some other illegal activity.

I repeat. So what if he was taking her photo. Normal rational civilized people do not act like this.

He is right. They are animals.

Punching a photographer? What kind of animal does that?

Here's the thing. Opie and Anthony's audience is not minorities, the politically correct, gays, women or all the groups who are beyond criticism or mocking in today's atmosphere. Anthony Cumia is a former air conditioning repairman who hit it big because he could do voices and comedy. His audience is working class white men, frat boys and all the people that every feminist and journalist tells to shut up and take it. They can say anything they want without worrying but let someone speak the truth about what is going on then they have to be silenced.

It will be interesting to see if Sirius radio cares about this audience and more importantly if they can make money off of them. If they can then he will be back.

Let me be clear. I personally despise Anthony Cumia but like Donald Sterling I don't think he should lose his livelihood for saying things that the politically correct can not stand. You have to stand up for the rights of odious people if all of our rights are to be protected.

Trooper York said...

You shouldn't be fired for speaking the truth to power.

I thought that was bedrock to the libtard journalist types?

Shouting Thomas said...

You shouldn't be fired for speaking the truth to power.

That's only when the "power" is conservative.

Where are all the incredibly principled advocates of freedom from governmental coercion (like the IRS attack on the Tea Party) now that a Democrat is president?

Exactly....not normal.

Dust Bunny Queen said...

@ Chip S

The examples you used are apples and oranges.

One is a random unknown stranger deciding to beat up a random person who took her photo. Either in a chance shot or on purpose. There are millions of these random photos all over the internet caught in the background of a photo or in the center for artistic purposes. Normal people don't go insane and beat up random photographers.

The others are examples of not random people, but rather famous celebrities who are stalked and surrounded by aggressive rude paparazzi who are relentless in their quest to get photos, invade the privacy of their stalkees and make a lot of money in the process. While not necessarily normal to snap and beat up the paparazzi, it is somewhat understandable.

Trooper York said...

I know of some lazy bloggers who use half of their posts to be of random people who they photographed without their permission.

Even to the point that they have whole blogs devoted to photo's of canine genitalia.

I would pay to see someone punch them in the mouth. Just sayn'

What source do you have for the sequence of events other than the one guy's tweets?

A group of guys comes upon a scene in which a man and a woman are fighting, and they side w. the woman. For that, they get called "animals".

As far as celebs go, they ought to be used to being photographed randomly. Ordinary people, not so much.

OK.

So, can we as a society finally "fire" Margaret Sanger from being cited and otherwise held up as anything other than that racist, eugenist that she was? This woman who spoke of the "fit" and "unfit," "breeding" a "race of human thoroughbreds," and who had the curious presence of mind to create something she called "The Negro Project," which included efforts to recruit ministers to help discredit any notion that her purpose was to "exterminate" blacks.

Because, of course, such a notion was absurd! It was only "defectives" and "feeble-minded" whose breeding she wanted to control.

And, yes, she really said these things: http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Margaret_Sanger

First Paula Deen now Anthony Cumia. Apparently the only career saving response to being attacked by a schvartze is abject apology for walking around white.

Trooper York said...

The reaction is just starting to come in. Most of the audience of the Opie and Anthony show are tweeting copies of their cancellation notices.

If they take enough of a hit they will reach out to him to bring him back. Of course he would have to grovel and kiss the ass of the politically correct poverty pimps like Imus did and I don't think he is going to do that. I think he has enough money to say screw it.

Trooper York said...

It behooves his partner to quit as well since he made his money because of Anthony's humor and voices. Opie is just a straight man like Bud Abbott so there is not a big market for his solo talents.

Trooper York said...

The word is that Cumia is moving to an internet streaming show where he will not be censored and his fans can hear him there. He can sell his own ads and make his own money.

Sort of going "Media Galt."

This might be the wave of the future for people with non politically correct views.

Trooper York said...

Why is this the first post that is tagged "Racially charged and hateful?"

Didn't we have a boatload of posts about the "knock out game" and riots at the Wisconsin County Fair and I don't know even the "Zimmerman" case? Shouldn't they get that tag and not just some mook tweeting about a fight in Time Square? Just sayn'

I love the First Amendment. It lets people say things that if said in other countries might result in imprisionment, or even death.

However, I don't like that some groups may not be spoken about except in the most innocuous of ways without some sort of punitive reaction.

Last Thursday night I attended a play in a theater in Chicago. I was told ahead of time that it would be 'edgy', that the young playwright was known for his 'edginess', and that the subject of the play, spouse swapping, was very edgy, and a reflection of modern society.

Yawn. A good deal of the play had one character yelling "f*ck the Bible!" or f*ck Christians!" every few minutes. Oooh, edgy!

At the talkback that followed the performance, I asked the edgy playwright "Why the Bible, and why Christians? It would have been far more daring if your character said "f*ck the Koran, and f*ck Muslims!"

The answer was a shuffling of feet and clearing of throats and something mumbled about not wanting to offend that community, yadda yadda yadda. I think the real answer had to do with the edgy playwrite not wanting to feel an edgy knife on his neck one night. So he chose to insult Christians because we don't push back in a fatal sort of way.

If we don't encourage and accept all forms of free speech, we give power to those who will silence all non-approved speech, bit by bit. We may not like to hear what someone says, as in Cumia's case, so we can not listen. And that's a lot different than demanding that Cumia (or anyone else) not speak freely, no matter how offensive.

Apparently Cumia makes his living crossing boundaries and offending sensibilities. Maybe he did something more than take a photo. I'd like some corroborative evidence before I go all in in his support......But there's obnoxious behavior and there's throwing a punch. Throwing a punch is a quantum jump, but so is characterizing her behavior as stereotypical......The only thing I can say in that woman's support is that she doesn't make her living being obnoxious so you've got to give her wider parameters.....People like Cumia and this woman tend to find each other.

Did Holy Nerd actually propose the "idea" of firing someone from society?

Methinks someone ain't understanding freedom too well. Excommunication is for people on power trips. Citizenship in a real country don't work like that.

I think it has to do with the confident and powerful being more capable, tolerant and less insecure with dissent.

You can criticize Islam all you want. Not sure if you know of an effective way of doing it, though. Certain Muslims, atheists and secularists might. But that's the difference between insult for insult's sake and criticism for change's sake. (Unless you think Islam is perfect as is).

Seriously, fuck you. I'm going to Lebanon next month, and I'm definitely keeping my American fucking mouth the fuck shut, especially since I'm going to a wedding in Shia territory. There's a nonzero chance of my American ass being kidnapped and head chopped off by pissed-off Syrian jihadi refugees, and I'm basically relying on the kindness of the taxi-drivers recommended by the bride's family. I'm planning on getting through by keeping my neocon opinions to my fucking self.
