Daily Caller: "130 Environmental Groups Call For An End To Capitalism"

"Environmentalists have declared that global warming can’t be stopped without ending the “hegemonic capitalist system,” saying that cap-and-trade systems and conservation efforts are “false solutions.”
“The structural causes of climate change are linked to the current capitalist hegemonic system,” reads the final draft of the Margarita Declaration, presented at a conference including about 130 environmental groups.

Environmental activists met in the oil producing, socialist country of Venezuela as part of a United Nations-backed event to increase civil engagement in the lead up to a major climate conference. (video at the link)

Environmentalism at its roots has long sought to impose a special form of communism - call it green communism - on the Untied States.

The environmental movement and its various organizations have become a safe haven for anarchists and other who believe that capitalism is an evil that must be wiped form the face of the earth, and who have cultivated the skills to influence politicians and voters under the banner of "green".

None of them have the age, maturity, or wisdom to look objectively at the environmental disasters communism created in Communist block Eastern Europe last century, or China in this century.

Accepting their beliefs is accepting the loss of the natural freedoms God granted us, replacing them with subservience in all things to the government, the "perfect" government they envision, the government that throttles progress and invention in favor of a return to pre-industrial poverty and control by a small group of elites. Elites who will live very well, while 99% suffer (cf Al Gore).

Margarita Declaration? I'll drink to that.

They are watermelons - green on the outside, red on the inside.

Haz - That belongs on billboards.

Wind farms kills birds.
Solar panels are made in China and in their manufacture, create their own toxic environmental disaster.

The left/green/communist marriage is about ending capitalism for the rest of us, while they use it to grow powerful and place their crony capitalist dictators in office.

Capitalism (not crony capitalism) is not a system of government, it is rather, a form of commerce. It naturally lifts people out of poverty.

I am a proud capitalist.

Michael Moore will always be the left's grand fat crony capitalist hypocrite mascot.

Haz, I disagree with you to this extent: They would not care about the environmental disasters of the old (and current) communist nations, because they don't really care about the environment. It is solely about imposing their own religion and power structure on the rest of us.

I am solidly in favor of transforming the global economy into a black market.

What could go wrong?

I do think there are legitimate concerns about the environment. But when people jump on the anti-capitalist bandwagon, they lose all creditability.

bagoh20 said...

I don't think they deserve the credit for having a plan. I've heard these people talk, and they are just very dumb and poorly informed, yet highly opinionated. When they leave just one place better than they found it, they can lecture others about the environment. Wherever they congregate they leave the place like a toxic dump. Shut up and clean your room.

Haz, Many environmental wackos are Viet Nam wackos that needed a cause when that war ended.

April, "Legitimate concerns" went out the window decades ago. The guy who started Greenpeace was a common sense guy showing people legit concerns. He was overrun by wackos who took over Greenpeace who became Somali Pirates boarding whaling ships.

I sure hope that all those environmentalists walked or used wind powered sailboats to get to Venezuela. Otherwise they would be contributing to the causes of climate change and would be contributing to the current capitalist hegemonic system by supporting those nasty commercial airlines.

I also hope that they stayed in tents and grass huts in order to not further damage the fragile earth by staying in an air conditioned hotel with nice clean sheets that are washed in nasty soap that pollutes the waters. Or eating off of china plates that I'm quite sure were created by some horrific capitalistic hegemon fat cat.

They did. Right????

I love these group declarations based on the imaginary belief that the world can be re-engineered by unilateral declaration.

That always works.

The thrill of using a phrase like "hegemonic system" overpowers all reason.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply otherwise. But I don't have much faith in "environmentalist" organizations, as opposed to organizations that take a more narrow focus. "Environmentalism" has become the latest home for communists shits that yearn for the good old days of Mao and Stalin.

Unknown said...

Ice- yeah. That's the point of the article. We all agree that the environmental movement has been co-opted by anti-liberty anti-personal property communists.
Legitimate concerns for environmental problems are now so politicized, that actual environmental catastrophes - like in China - are ignored.

They need to check their privilege.

It's worth noting that the "greenest" nations are the wealthy ones that can afford the research and technology that allows for environmentally friendly adaptations.

Nations that are ruled under other systems are much more susceptible to poverty and corruption, so companies take advantage of those. Stop the corruption, address the underlying problems that lead to real poverty and oppression, and people would have the social, economic, and emotional space to care about their surroundings.

Paddy O said...

"has been co-opted by anti-liberty anti-personal property"

The problem is that these people are on both sides. The oligarchs and the Leftists hate liberty and abuse the systems they claim to support. So, each side has real villains to point to, but gets blinded by the villains on their own side. Meanwhile, the villains dance and laugh at all the rubes. America thrives (-ed?) because it has mostly kept a balance, keeping a rule of law that gave freedom to all and protection to all.

They're none of them actually really for what they say they stand for. They just pretend to be to gull idiots and suppress debate.

FTW.

What worries me most, besides radiation leaking into the ocean out of Fukishima, and what the actual dangers of fracking may be is the amount of plastics made from petroleum. The amount of air pollution this causes is staggering. I cannot remember the exact number quoted in the program below. Some ridiculously high number like 100,000 pounds per capita per annum.

"NOVA dips into the sad plight of our coastal waters, where toxic chemicals, raw sewage and disease-carrying microbes are routinely dumped.
Original broadcast date: 12/02/86
Topic: environment/ecology"

Capitalism, and it's accompanying prosperity, is what prevents or reduces pollution. It doesn't eliminate it of course, but it provides alternatives to that are far better in the long run, even if it creates more pollution in the short run. It eventually produces a people who are comfortable enough to afford those alternatives. Besides if your solution requires that people must just want less comfort and convenience in their lives then you probably have not thought it through seriously. Any solution must accept that we will have more people and they will want more. If they can't get it through capitalism, they will kill each other and steal it from their neighbors.

"Environmental activists met in the oil producing, socialist country of Venezuela as part of a United Nations-backed event to increase civil engagement in the lead up to a major climate conference."

The cognitive dissonance here is giggle inducing.

Deborah - as long as there are people on planet earth, we will have environmental problems. The deal, as Bagoh states and Paddy O too, is that highly advanced nations do a better job with clean-up than say Venezuela, a socialist hell-hole, and nations run by cronyists on the take in China. etc..

As DBQ testifies - are these anti-capitalists going to give up the comforts and conveniences that capitalism provides? Not likely.

The focus for these enviro-commie-fraudsters is carbon and only carbon. Behold the invisible atom that will kill us all!
They have nothing to say about Fukishima, toxic run-off from the manufacture of products they all use, China, and all sorts of actual environmental issues.
Nope- they want to shut down coal fired plants, before we even have new infrastructure in place.

Never mind the sky-rocketing cost of natural gas. Ban Fracking! because Hollywood made an anti-fracking movie.

No worries for people like Jared Polis(D-CO). He is a multi-millionaire. He can absorb the high prices for natural gas.

I live near Lake Michigan. The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewage District is a quasi-governmental agency that operates the huge sewage system that serves Milwaukee and many of its suburbs.

The MMSD is inept. Its system includes may areas where storm water is funneled into the sanitary sewage system, the combined volume leading to overflows at treatment plants.

During periods of heavy rainfall or snow melt, MMSD regularly dumps BILLIONS of gallons of untreated or semi-treated sewage into Lake Michigan. Lake Michigan is also where Milwaukee and other cities get its drinking water.

Despite this massive pollution of an important lake, MMSD has never been charged with pollution. In fact, MMSD has been granted permission by various environmental regulatory agencies to continue dumping sewage when the need arises. This dumping of sewage is never a concern of environmental groups, despite the fouling of the drinking supply and the mandatory closing of public swimming beaches due to high coliform bacteria counts.

Two years ago a guy was arrested because he tossed a rock - a rock - off of a bridge and into a river in Milwaukee that feeds into Lake Michigan. He was charged with water pollution and was facing a huge fine and incarceration until some local talk shows made the case public. Last summer, someone walking a dog along the beach was charged with water pollution because the dog pooped and the owner didn't scoop it up. Big fine, court hassle, etc.

But eh MMSD dumps BILLIONS of gallons of shit into Lake Michigan and there is no penalty.

Did I mention that Milwaukee in its entire history has had only Socialist Party members and Democrat Party members as its mayors? True. And they were never held responsible for pollution. Ever.

What they never realize is that in their zeal to have government control all things, they will equate it as freedom. What they don't realize is when they've ceded their freedom to government, it will take it away and they will have none. Unless that is what they want after all. With radical marxist leftists it's hard to tell where their insanity will lead them.

Haz @2:07pm/

The reason that most major American cities--especially east of the Mississippi R.--are such shitholes--political, economic, ecological--is not because most are run today by Blacks, but because of leftist ideology. The first 35 yrs post-WW II it was white Democrats implementing the leftist vision, the last 35 black democratic politicians/leaders doing the same. That shared leftist vision, and that alone, is the main reason our major cities are circling the economic and financial drain and are so mal-administered. You'd think they all had been taking lessons from Mexican political and bureaucratic types--Mexico being a (the?) world leader in sleazoid mal-administration.

Yes, Communist Warsaw Pact countries in Eastern Europe--along with the old SU-- were the worst massive polluters on the planet; with many toxic dump sites, rivers and lakes STILL yet to be cleaned up.
