Cathy Young: What ‘Women Against Feminism’ Gets Right

"The latest skirmish on the gender battlefield is “Women Against Feminism”: women and girls taking to the social media to declare that they don’t need or want feminism, usually via photos of themselves with handwritten placards. The feminist reaction has ranged from mockery to dismay to somewhat patronizing (or should that be “matronizing”?) lectures on why these dissidents are wrong. But, while the anti-feminist rebellion has its eye-rolling moments, it raises valid questions about the state of Western feminism in the 21st Century — questions that must be addressed if we are to continue making progress toward real gender equality." Modern feminism:

Hate the man. (except harry reid, he's awesome)

Force the government (the tax payer) to pay for your abortion.

You must pledge allegiance to the progressive agenda (the march forward to a taxpayer-funded future of government provided bliss)

Anger. Anger and more anger.

No, I don't have to address such questions, nor do I intend to do so.

I'll skip the assignment. And just enjoy life.

There's another reason Ms Young doesn't mention why a lot of folks (& not just young women) are uncomfortable around feminism: it's not clear that the lunatics aren't running the asylum.

While there are without a doubt white conservatives who think that Negroes are Dinosaurs, they're located sipping beer in some back-country bar somewhere. But, if you think that ALL instances of hetero-intercourse are tantamount to rape, well, here's your endowed chair, sweetheart. The Left celebrates its nutjobs by tucking them into what it hopes are "out of sight until needed" sinecures.

A good article on the subject.

Always wanting something else is the essence of womanhood. The problem with feminism is that it's full of women.

Don't hate me just because I'm honest.

Why is manhood defined in such varied and diffuse ways by women who claim that there is only one permissible way to be a feminist.

There is a fundamental truth here.

Women like fashion and fashion has to keep changing.

No self-respective woman wants to wear the same style panties or screw in the same manner as her mother.

It's wanting to be treated like a man, while hating the man; and then after she achieves being treated like a man, hating the result.

I ran into someone insisting that I was mischaracterizing "feminism" and that it meant "equality for everyone".

And I'm all... why is it not called "equality" then?

And I'm all... and what if we used "masculinist" as a synonym for "equality and everything good", wouldn't that imply that anyone not masculine was bad? Using "feminist" for everything good, implicitly claims that anyone not feminine is bad... because words.

But bottom line is... I'm not invited. No matter what a dictionary definition says or how much I agree with that dictionary definition, I am not invited.

Cathy Young, IIRC and am not thinking of someone else, tends libertarian and has a libertarian view of equality... you're free to fail on your own merits, sister.

And it doesn't matter how equal you think women should be, or how *capable* you believe women are, or how silly some the examples to support "women and men are different" are... if you believe that women in control of their own reproduction don't *need* abortions... you're not invited.

And honestly? It looks like a downer of a party anyhow, complaining about the Patriarchy instead of having fun...

I think this Taki article nails it.

"Modern feminism is no longer about empowering women. It’s about trivializing what makes women female and glorifying their male traits. Girls should be “kick-ass.” We need more female super heroes. Women should be more involved in the video game industry. Housewives are sellouts. We’ve gone from the Mother Earth hippies who love their femininity to the chick with the guns from Tomb Raider. Not only do these girls want to be dudes, they want dudes to be chicks."
