LA: Dozens Of Strangers Show Up At Man’s Door After Bogus Craigslist Ad Promises Free Stuff

"Strangers lined up outside David Otero’s home in Pomona Sunday after seeing a bogus Craigslist ad promising free stuff."
“I said, ‘Oh my gosh, what is going on?’” the homeowner said.

Some people bypassed the security gate and walked right up to his door.

“We had to stay away from the window. We didn’t know what they were going to do. We felt very fearful,” said Otero’s girlfriend, Lorrayne Skeens.

The ad says, “First come, first served..I have a bunch of free stuff that has to be gone by Sunday night.”

The problem is Otero didn’t post it.
The question is... Is 'his' stuff really his to begin with?

In high school, there were guys who would write something like "For a good time call 555-1212" on the inside partition of a restroom toilet stall.

Sometimes there would be a real girl's name.

I assumed that nobody was actually stupid enough, or mean enough, to actually try it.

I bet you could win an election by posting an ad on Craigslist promising free stuff for your vote.

Oh wait, didn't someone do something like that already?

@Eric

It's 867-5309, and it's quite a famous song.

I've been playing it with the kids.

I bet that he didn't build it.

I could have sworn I saw a picture of a guy that looked a lot like Bags... there at that man's house asking for stuff ;-)

Sure, but I expected that "stuff" included giving away some badly needed services. I already have a damned used Pocket Fisherman, if you know what I mean.

Probably not since according to our president "YOU DIDN'T BUILD THAT"!

Sorry - just noticed AllenS already said that!

I used to go to this county library, somewhere around 1980, and sometimes written inside one of the toilet stalls, in the men's room, there'd be stuff like: "I'll blow any guy who has a big cock. Meet me here on [date] at [time.]"

I assumed that was evidence of someone's warped sense of humor -- or they were looking to entrap fags to beat the crap out of them -- but then it was in the newspaper that the police arrested two guys having sex in the library men's room and one of them was a school teacher.

So I sort of got an education.

Clearly Titus bait.

A friend of mine told me some of his schoolmates were feuding, either with neighbors or some other family member, and set to harass them. Beyond bogus pizza deliveries, they sent all kinds of services and goods to the family. They enrolled them in
record clubs, magazine subscriptions, they even had a pool company come out. The harassment went on for months and the boys were never caught.
This was all done way way before the internet.

We have helped people conned via craigslist. A shitbird was posing as a landlord of different houses on our block in San Diego. These people paid thousands of dollars for a vacation and it was bogus. You feel so bad for them. We helped one family find a place. They were very grateful, just learned a 2k lesson. DON'T PAY VIA PAYPAL.
