Jim Gaffigan

That crazy spokeshole woman from the westboro baptist church. It would be a real life church lady, but really high octane. It would be hilarious to have her interviewing all kind of people and telling them they are going to hell.

add another vote for Gaffigan.

PatrickO, Both Hoosiers.

The church lady monologues would kill.

Sam Kinison, if he was still alive.

Greg Gutfeld chosen to host Tonight, Andrew Sullivan goes apoplectic, declares America to be irrevocably fascist, packs for England.

Well if they want someone just as funny and talented a wise politically as David Letterman....then there is only one choice:

Rachel Maddow.

Mark Steyn

I'm not sure but I think he can be funny, and he's supposedly got some knowledge of music and stuff.

Plus, don't all talk show hosts have to have an accent now?

Lem the artificially intelligent said...

Def just as partisan @Trooper.

Lem the artificially intelligent said...

Seinfeld would be my choice.

Paddy O said...

Seinfeld is great in his riding in cars series.

But I can't imagine he would want the job and he certainly doesn't need it.

It has to be Maddow or DeGeneres because diversity.

I think the should hire Margaret Cho.

You get a minority, a lesbian and an out of control leftist. A three-fer. Perfect for CBS.

Nobody watches them anymore anyway. They should embrace the suck.

It would be a nice time slot for reruns of Rawhide or Gilligan's Island. Stuff like that.

I think Rosie O'Donnell is looking for work since the Oprah network dumped her.

Or maybe Joy Behar. A true gem.

I go to bed early and rarely watch late night shows. Occasionally I'd watch Leno's opening. I cannot stand Letterman anymore. He was such an asshole towards Sarah Palin and such a suck up to any corruptocrat. Fuck him.

Unknown said...

I'm with you, Trooper. Embrace the suck. All the major networks are corruptocrat pimping central.

There are too many options to lock in watching late night TV anymore. I used to watch the Tonight show every night when Johnnie was on. But now with Net Flicks, Amazon Prime, Hulu and a smart TV I have an amazing number of options. So when are ready to watch a little TV right before we go to sleep we catch up on series we might have missed. Doing that we have watched such offerings as
"House of Cards", "Homeland","The Guardian","Lillyhammer", and currently a goofy little series called "The Glades."

I don't miss late night talk shows in the least.

Trooper York said...

Use your options and opt out of late night TV. It is not 1968 anymore. Just sayn'

I's suggest someone who's funny - Norm MacDonald Dennis Miller or Jay Leno.

BTW, I stopped watching late night talk shows on a regular basis about 5 years ago, except for the occasional Leno monologue.

rcocean said...

Trooper is right, in ye olden days it was late night talks shows or Nightline. Now, in the 21st Century, with DVR's and 150 cable TV channels, why would I watch Jimmy Kimmel interview some starlet about her upcoming movie?

Finally, just skimmed through a book written by Johnny Carson's Lawyer. Seems Johnny hated Tom Snyder for no other reason then Carson believing TS was a no talent bore.

After a couple drinks Johnny ran into into Tom at a local restaurant - TS said "hi" and then JC had to be restrained from punching TS in the nose.

I don't watch late night talk shows, but Norm MacDonald would kill. I loved that little sports show he had, but it was canceled. I'm pretty sure he's too much of a smartass to be chosen. But for the PC crowd, Gutfeld would be a great choice also.

Who watches late night shows???
Is there anyone here, among those suggesting alternatives, who spends time watching them? If so, why are they important to you, and what are you looking for? Otherwise, this is another exercise in offering opinions about something that has no personal meaning.

"If so, why are they important to you, and what are you looking for?"

It doesn't seem to be important to you, so what do you care?

I didn't realize this blog was supposed to be only about IMPORTANT stuff. If so, someone needs to take down all the posts about cute animals, music, etc.

rcocean said...

Either add something to the conversation or ignore it. Barging in to say "Why are you talking about this?" makes absolutely no sense.

When is commenting on a public blog "barging in" rcocean?

As I understand the way things work here, you're free to like or not like whatever is said, and I'm free to comment or ask whatever questions I want, within the limits of civility.

The questions asked fall into the category of civil and legitimate. I'll agree the opinion at the end was editorializing, but it too fits the guidelines listed.

Before I built a wall I'd ask to know
What I was walling in or walling out,

Same with figuring out who the best replacement for Letterman would be. Which makes the questions I asked relevant. Who watches late night shows???

Wait a second. I've never heard that Fixx song before in my life. Nice high notes from Cy.
