NYT: Pulling Tricks From Everyone’s Sleeves

"Mayor Bill de Blasio can swell with enthusiasm for people and movements and moments progressive."
So he showed up at the Sheraton last week for the National Action Network’s convention to offer a rhetorical bear hug to that cat with 43 lives, the Rev. Al Sharpton. The mayor spoke of the ever-more diminutive and nattily tailored reverend in tones so reverent that reporters craned their necks to see if the reincarnated Martin Luther King Jr. had taken a seat on the dais.
“We have all seen leaders come and go,” the mayor said. “When we find someone that actually stays the course, and in fact becomes better, stronger, clearer at the work with every passing year, that’s a blessing.”

A blessing: That’s one way of describing Mr. Sharpton.

As it happens, The Smoking Gun website and William Bastone last week suggested a few more descriptives for the city’s pre-eminent shape-shifter. Like: F.B.I. snitch, friend to at least two prominent cocaine dealers, and a man on a first-name basis with a striking number of made men from various and many Mafia families. A Genovese here, a Gambino there, Baldy, Fritzy, Vinny the Chin, the reverend was nothing if not ecumenical. (read more)

Also, the author of the Tawana Brawley scam, inciter of the Crown Heights pogrom and Freddie's Mart arson, and the George Zimmerman fiasco.

That's a guy who continues to be true to his nature.

In the absence of any real examination/exhumation of Sharpton’s past involvement with the FBI and the Mafia, his denials have served the civil rights leader well. Scores of articles and broadcast reports about the Obama-era “rehabilitation” of Sharpton have mentioned his inflammatory past--Tawana Brawley, Crown Heights, Freddy’s Fashion Mart, and various anti-Semitic and homophobic statements. But his organized crime connections and related informant work have received no such scrutiny.

In a “60 Minutes” profile aired three months before the August 2011 launch of Sharpton’s MSNBC show, correspondent Lesley Stahl reported on the “tame” Sharpton’s metamorphosis from “loud mouth activist” to “trusted White House advisor who’s become the president’s go-to black leader.” As for prior underworld entanglements, those were quickly dispatched: “There were allegations of mob ties, never proved,” Stahl flatly declared.

Whatever the coordinated efforts of the "press" say.

Why is this cretin still alive?

Funny thing...I know a lot of black folks (Detroit---hello?)and I've never heard one say one kind thing about the con man Sharpton. Most tend to disparage preacher hustlers versus the real thing in their own churches.

He is a media thing, nothing more. His Brawley nonsense was proven a fraud, yet the media adores him. Go figure....they created him so why not?

You want the real deal, I suggest, locally, the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, 2080 West Grand Boulevard in Detroit. Dr Ben Carson appeared there last April...and Judi and I were there...which, IIRC, I mentioned on TOP at the time. Dr Carson was there in support of "Covenant Community Care," a real medical services outreach in the inner city (by predominantly black folks) that is worth our support, and gets it. No PPACA required. No time wasted on victim-hood scams.

All the black intellectuals write deep think pieces about the character flaws of Justice Thomas, Condeleeza Rice, Ben Carson, and even Gen. Powell (before he came out in support of Obama). I have yet to read a piece critical of Al Sharpton by such thinkers. What gives? I thought hypocrisy was located on the Caucasian gene.

DeBlasio is one sick fuck.

Oh, come now. Most of us here remember the Seventies and Eighties. Who DIDN'T know a couple of prominent cocaine dealers? At least? And someone with a fast boat, too.

Or was that just a Florida thing?

Aridog said...

I remember the 70's...and I had a very fast boat. Never bothered with cocaine, in any quantity...too easy to get dead by design with that shit, even back in the day. The people who trafficked in it were nasty folks...so Methadras comment above is germane. How did the fat fuck live to tell a story?

As it turns out, Al Sharpton and the blithering bureaucracy have been involved in a "rhetorical bear hug" for a very long time.

He is an odious man. No self-respecting person of African or any other descent would allow that to "represent" them politically or before God. He hangs about because he's useful to powerful interests and entertaining to the mob. How could such a bozo be a threat? Resist we much! He can't even read his script properly much less form a coherent three word sentence. But he is a threat, a useful one if you want to turn people of different races against each other. He will say and do awful and/or stupid things to keep racial hatred alive. Lefty mouthpieces like Leslie Stahl and Mayor DeBlasio celebrate that.

Amartel nails it in the 7:21 PM post. Sharpton is a threat because he is a successful fraud.
