Zero Hedge: "Vladimir Putin Nominated For Nobel Peace Prize"

"It would appear the Norwegian Nobel Institute is starting to lose it. Just a few years after President Obama won the Peace Prize (while mired in overseas wars), the director of the prestigious entity announced today that Russian President Vladimir Putin, accused of invading Ukraine - suspiciously un-peaceful action - has been nominated for the Peace Prize. Putin joins NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden and Pakistani schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai as a nominee for the award to be announced in October." read more

I thought this was some kind of early April fools. It is not. It appears to be very real.

Mussolini, Stalin, Chamberlin were nominated. The Perons were nominated. Even Hitler, although that was apparent sarcasm and not a serious nomination. I thought Solzhenitsyn was one of the most deserving winners in my time.

Bob Dylan has been nominated for the literature prize, which I would wholeheartedly endorse.

The fact that I have never been nominated is another reason that I'm clearly just as cool as my mom thinks I am.

I don't think there's much chance the girl won't win.

Third link - Huffington Post:

"This process has resulted in some truly terrible people being proposed over the years, including but not limited to: Joseph Stalin (twice), Adolf Hitler (as a protest), and Rush Limbaugh."

Cute.

Isn't Ronan Farrow up for a Nobel Peace Prize in journalism and science?

Dreamy blue eyes. There's a Noble in the bag for him at some point.

What, you mean they didn't give it to Sinatra's kid?!

April Apple beat me to it but I'm postin' anyway. :^/

Schmendrik nominates Che from his basement lair annually and if Che doesn't win Schmendrik keeps the votive candles burning for him anyway, so all is not lost.

Nobel (not Noble) yerg.

Starting to lose it?

Those people haven't had it together for 50 years.

Nominate somebody like the guy who canceled Pauly Shore's movie contract.

I predicted this BTW, and deborah seconded the motion: link

But that was before the Ukraine stuff.

If I had only listened to Palin.

There are tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of people allowed to nominate Nobel Prize recipients. The list of people allowed to nominate includes every member of the Russian legislature, plus Putin himself and most of his cronies, plus every social science professor in every university and college in the world, some of whom will support anyone provided the person is anti-West.

So color me utterly unsurprised that Putin might score a nomination from somebody.

I know I know but I had to say it.

What's your beef with Dylan anyway?

"Nominate somebody like the guy who canceled Pauly Shore's movie contract. "

A couple weeks ago some friends and I went to the Laugh Factory in Vegas. The comedians were Chris Farley's brother, a guy formerly on Saturday Night Live, and Pauly Shore's Dad. We sat right at the front with our feet against the stage. All the acts made me laugh like hell till my cheeks were chapped from the tears. Mr. Shore is in his mid-80s, looks exactly like an old Pauly Shore, was very sharp, articulate, and funny, but he also made a remark that was not intended to be humorous at all, was completely out of left field, and kind of ruined his act for me even though I had been enjoying it. He brought up Obama just long enough to call everyone who didn't like him "old fat White racists", and in a very serious way.

Now, despite the fact that these live shows tend to get pretty racy, irreverent, and uncensored, nobody else for two hours of jokes had to say something that stupid, racist and offensive. If not for that one stupid and totally unfunny (nobody laughed at it) line the show would have been a perfect night that everyone enjoyed. Why do some people need to express their bigotry so publicly in the middle of a good time? Still, it was a great evening.

The voice, the unprofessional live shows and the hype.

The voice is like finger nails on a blackboard for me. The only professional musician I have seen put on a more shambolic live show is Chuck Berry.

He was written a few good songs, I particularly like I Shall be Released.

This is a fair assessment of the situation.

Dylan fans are the battered wives of the music industry.

If Putin had any smarts, he'd tell them to shove it.

If he wanted to poke Obama in the eye, he'd tell the committee to give Obama another peace price, and then LAUGH OUT LOUD.

And you are being kind with that.

The only professional musician I have seen put on a more shambolic live show is Chuck Berry.

You missed the Michael Jackson (Jacksons) "Victory Tour" I take it ...the one where every relative down to 45th cousin 13 times removed was assigned as "manager" for specific amounts of stage floor and set space...sometimes as little as one or two SF. And that was the humorous part. The full result was the biggest Cluster Ph**k I've ever witnessed.

Seems that I worked security (for the promoter, not MJ & clan) for that stop in Detroit/Pontiac. At least I got well paid for the entertainment.

Damnit...in my senility I addressed my comment to the wrong poster...it should have been to A Reasonable Man.

(Phx must have a tin ear and poor taste in literature to consider Dylan on the same award plane as Solzhenitsyn...who won the Nobel for Literature.)
