"a side note on the sphinxlike front desk clerks, by the way: I am legitimately infatuated with their unparalleled ability to deliver bad news"

hashtag - #%$ This is not what I learned about communism in American government run skoolz!

Evil conservatives hate communism, so I assumed communism was really great. About sharing everything and singing kumbaya. WFT? This sucks.

The white house spokeman could learn a thing or two from those clerks.

But hey, I'm sure their "free" healthcare is awesome.

It's Putin's crony capitalism - the same perversion of capitalism that Obama and his minions have brought us here in America - that delivers the foulup of a Sochi. Who was that guy who delivered a near perfect winter olympic games in Salt Lake City?...oh yeah, Romney, the guy Americans compared to Mr. Screwup and found wanting.

Might be a good way to find a bed.

With mad construction management skills like this, how could there not be some terrorist stuff buried deep in walls and foundations of Olympic venue building and hotels?

Lem, you should have posted the pic of the unsafe water.

The Fruit Bat's been working out, so he can manage it standing up now.

Does the toilet paper over there still look like a finger?

The author of the linked article, though, does say: "As far as I can tell, all these stories are real, though it’s getting harder and harder to distinguish the actual from the apocryphal."

Wonder if some of the Twitter pile-on is because of the new anti-gay laws there?

Ya know, I thought the negative reporting seemed a little over the top, and I think you just might be onto something there...

Thanks for that sobering quote phx.

Excellent point., phx. Sadly, western media and in particular American media, who are driven by laziness, celebrity, incuriosity, and political narrative pimping, will undoubtedly be the first to forget Sochi and the black hole that is left behind.

The Olympics is not about "4 star accommies, natch" or swish bars for meet-ups -- it's about the athletes and their competitions. If their accommodations are substandard, by all means let's hear about it.

As for dissing Putin, I don't recall complaints about the repressive Chinese government or any other regime hosting the Olympics.

Just air the real grievances instead of making them up.

Now go buy some Stoli...
...Nastrovia!

Visit now before it turns into Sarajevo.

Russian waiter: "You're just fussy, Obama said his was good, and it reminded him of when he was a kid."

They are reporting about themselves and their troubles rather than on the larger (more important) story of statist incompetence and crony corruption. Reporting on the real story might be inconvenient for the Narrative so they're trying to distract from that with comedic observations involving themselves and the poor schmucks who have to deliver the absurdly bad news about their personal accommodations.

So I wonder if Romney dared to criticize Russia's preparations if the Dems would find a way to proclaim that he was insulting them.

Per a Russian Deputy PM, there are surveillance cameras in the hotel showers. (Genius super elite intellectual deputy prime minister was deriding reports of Russian incompetence by citing video of foreign visitor sabotage ... of showers, caught on video tape. He was quickly hustled away by his handlers.)
Stay filthy, Keepers of the Narrative.
