The Tea Party Anthem?

According to Richard Cohen -- who seems to have something for everyone to hate in today's WaPo column -- it could be:
I thank Dennis J. Goldford, professor of politics and international relations at Drake University in Des Moines, for leading me to a live performance on YouTube of Merle Haggard singing “Are the Good Times Really Over.” This chestnut, a lament for a lost America, has been viewed well more than 2 million times. It could be the tea party’s anthem.

I resent the vile fuck's dissing of Palin's intelligence, but that's just me.

I tried following a couple of the online liberal criticisms of Cohen's piece. I'm still not certain why they're offended. I understand why anyone that isn't one of Obama's shit sniffers should be offended, but not why they should be.

Meh. I've never taken the Tea Party to stand for wistful reminiscence, it seems much more forward looking. A better anthem would be Aaron Lewis' "Country Boy".

"Now two flags fly above my land that really sum up how I feel, one is the colors I fly high and proud; the red, the white, the blue. The other one has a rattlesnake, and a simple statement made. "Don't tread on me" is what it says, and I'll take that to my grave.

'Cuz, this is me. I'm proud to be American and strong in my beliefs. And I've said it before, but I'll say it again, I've never needed government to hold my hand"

I hate these snooty east coast liberal writers who view going to the middle of the country like a grade schooler views going to the zoo. Eff him.

And eff the liberal cognoscenti who think they get to pick which Republican gets to run. Screw them.

Conservative columnists should tell the Dems who they should run for president.

Chris Christie comes to mind.

Just like our dear old Ritmo.

A perfect example was her "Party like it's 1773" remark which set off any number of progressive sullivanists who, mouths agape, said aloud "did she really say that? "

Sixty Twits, your tiny, strained coronary arteries just called. They want to thank you for sending another incoherent episode of rage their way. Hopefully it will be more effective this time.

Sixty's the kind of guy who would shove his cock up his own asshole and call himself Casanova. I mean, for a guy who throws around words like "pathetic", he sure is vile.

Leave Haz out of it, Chicken. Just accept that there's a bit of a disconnect between someone who simply doesn't care to use geography to elevate or dismiss others and someone who (like you) believes that North Dakota is bound to become the next Saudi Arabia.

Cohen has been on the wrong side of history (not to mention intelligence) for 40 years.

Why should he change now?

Obviously, Ritmo is intimidated by her.

That's more than enough.

Well, obviously, ed!

In your mind, do you hear Jon Lovitz saying "that's the ticket!" in the background to these biting observations?

chickelit said...

Well, it's a great Merle Haggard song and from 1982!

I credit my BIL for showing me it last year.

Hear, hear!

Music… makes the people… come together.

Have you ever listened to Shooter Jennings, Chick? He's probably a bit different but obviously similar roots.

Similar roots to whom?

Aligning a sensible philosophy of government with a regional cultural identity (country music, ruralism) is a mistake.

The association with Iowa is fine.

Palin likes Van Halen IIRC.

No, that's your anthem.

Yea, that's the ticket."

Ah, a nice non-vile retort from Rit Mo. We should expect no less from an science denier and all around intellectual midget.

Keep up the good work, Mo, and you can keep your plan if you like it.

For the aging Richard Cohen and his ilk, it’s always 1963. It must be, because otherwise, they’d be irrelevant.

Palin is in Columbus, Ohio for a book signing.

The vitriol on Facebook is astounding.

Keep shoving your prick into your own asshole and be sure to tell us all the research you did on deciphering the difference between the weather of the day in the Carolinas and global climate.

It would be nice to be less vile but when addressing Sixty Twits, but one has to occasionally use his own language. Big words scare him and his tiny, crippled heart can only take so many scares.
