If you Like the Philosophy You Have, You Can Keep It

“You can’t compare my experience with his lack of experience,” said Mr. Lhota, a onetime Wall Street financier, a deputy mayor in the administration of Rudolph W. Giuliani and a former chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority."
Mr. de Blasio, the city’s public advocate, scoffed at that assessment, arguing that what really mattered to voters was not executive savvy, but philosophical worldview.
“You have to look at the values that each of us brings to this,” he said. “It’s not just what job titles you’ve held.”
Snipet of a NY Times article, covering the final debate between Bill de Blasio and Joseph J. Lhota for the mayoralty of New York City.

Lem, no world series post today? That's okay...I did one for you.

Just so long as those brave New Yorkers don't vote for the icky Republican.

Determined to resurrect his flailing candidacy, Mr. Lhota, a Republican, sought in the final mayoral debate on Wednesday to mock the experience of his Democratic rival as alarmingly thin, his judgment as completely untested and his optimism as hopelessly naïve.

The voters prefer untested naïve optimism. Celebrity. We already know this with Obama.

There was some subterfuge about the Obama candidacy, but DeBlasio is totally in your face. The only real suspense is how big a disaster he will be. Well NY has survived Lindsay, Beame, and Dinkins. There's no reason to believe that it will not survive DeBlasio.

Wait till the tourists experience NYC retro seventies again.

Yes. How soon it has been forgotten.

The kids are too young and stupid to know anything about the crack epidemic and the era of wild black gang violence.

"Well New York has survived Lindsay, Beame and Dinkins."

Three totally different creatures. Lindsay was an orthodox WASP true believer in compassion for lesser breeds and all the rot and corruption that comes with compassion. Beame was a green eye shade type who did the best he could making the books work or at least covering up the unworkability of the standard New Deal agenda he was wedded to. Dinkins was suave as hell and on the inside probably agreed with Reverend Wright, but far more important was perfect attendance at Forest Hills in his cute tennis whites. So Crown Heights burned a little, "they" had it coming.

Actually, there was a pogrom in Crown Heights (made Dinkins smile inside) and the Open had moved to Flushing Meadows by the time Dinkins was mayor. Okay, Troop? Am I forgiven?

New York City will survive and prosper - it always has.

You have a whole bunch of wealthy elitists who brings tons of money in. Plus a lot people from all over the world who want to move there. There are probably 100 million Chinese who'd move to the Bronx tomorrow.

DeBlasio has promised to end stop-and-frisk and the NYPD's surveillance of Muslim groups.

What could possibly go wrong?

Oh, and he was an organizer of the Organize for Wall Street anarchists.

Nice city you had there.
