A better question is why do we personify our senses.
Well, if i understand your question correctly then i wpuld say that our senses currently the only way we can interact with our environment and in doing so helps to define and personify who and what we are. I have synesthesia and i can tell you that my senses lie and actually make up stuff to me on a second by second basis, but it's up to me to filter out the bullshit and see the truth of what need to. The rest is entertainment.
