"7 ridiculous restrictions on women’s rights around the world"

'"With Saudi Arabian women behind the wheel since Saturday to protest their country's refusal to grant driver's licenses to women, they’re challenging not only long-standing restriction, but also a the larger system of Saudi Arabian gender-based laws, some of the harshest in the world."

"According to one measurement, though, there are actually several countries that rank lower on women's rights than Saudi Arabia."

Here are other remarkable legal restrictions against women, from Asia to Latin America:

1. India (some parts): Road safety rules don’t apply to women.

2. Yemen: A woman is considered only half a witness.

3. Saudi Arabia and Vatican City: Women can’t vote... still.

4. Ecuador: Abortion is illegal, unless you’re an “idiot.”

5. Saudi Arabia and Morocco: Rape victims can be charged with crimes.

6. Yemen: Women can’t leave the house without their husbands’ permission.

7. Saudi Arabia: Women can't drive.

I'll get around to fixing this stuff later today.

First, I gotta learn a few tunes for an audition.

But, I promise, I'll get to work on the fix ASAP after practice.

Are men allowed to have abortions in Ecuador?

United States of America: It is a "war on women" to advise young women binge drinking is dangerous.

Women are on the move this week, Lem. You missed the Abortion w/o Apology demonstrations and Nancy Pelosi's promises of Juila 2.0 when she returns to Speaker.

I'm guessing that "voting" in Vatican City means voting for the pope? In which case nearly all men also do not have the right to vote?

Some of the restrictions on abortion (and divorce for that matter) in some traditionally Catholic countries are a wee bit wacked, but not because abortion or divorce is illegal but because the law leaves no room for common sense or miscarriage.

Also... I thought that leftists *wanted* the mentally infirm not to breed. What's up with complaining about that?

I'd have no problem whatsoever with a female physician checking my prostate so I'm part of the solution, not part of the problem.

United States: A woman can be insulted in public with impunity, ridiculed, or accused of anything without proof if she is a conservative.

Most women in this country think 1 applies here, too.

Shit, here they can still vote. Look at how that worked out.

Meth, you can say it as many times as you want, but they never forget the slight, and the apology expires quickly. You're screwed.

One of these things is not like the others.

If women can drive, but you restrict their rights, then they can only make lefts.

When I was growing up, females were considered 'emancipated' at age 18. Males had to be 21.

I had to get my wife to go buy me beer until I was 21.

This patriarchy thing has been long gone for many years in America and we need to call BS on it.

These other places, OK, they are stupid.

BTW, Eric, I agree with you.

Saudi Arabia: Women can't drive.

Just like here. The only difference is that in Saudi Arabia, not only are they not able to drive, they're also not allowed to drive.

*ducks*

The complaint about not being able to vote in Vatican City is remarkably stupid. Name one "citizen" of Vatican City who is not also a citizen somewhere else.

So they get to vote in Italy, or Argentina, or what-have-you.

Right. But go online, and find out how many people "live" in Vatican City. Vatican City--while a sovereign nation--is basically the size of a mid-sized college campus. A very small number of people live *in* Vatican City.

Even most of the clerics who are attached to the Holy See probably live in Italy--not Vatican City. I think the Swiss Guards actually live in the city-state, and they are 100% Swiss Nationals.

To be clear: the abuse of women's rights is real. I think including Vatican City here is ludicrous.
