Your First Time

I've been enjoying pictures of the Obama Hand-Message Celebrities with "Bomb Syria" photo-shopped onto their hands.  "Demand a plan... to Bomb Syria" was pretty good, too.   But I think that it's got to be Lena Dunham for the win.

(I believe that a fellow named Krewe Maynard is to be thanked for this.)

I'm also struck by just how much of that "win" is dependent on knowing the context and having seen the original campaign ad.  This, and the OH-MC, are only as funny as they are because of how enthusiastically enthusiastic and happy those celebrities were to promote Obama.  It wasn't any gruff or reserved, "Oh, I think he'd be the best of the lot and I plan to vote for him."   No, it was "This is just like having sex for the first time!"

Well, now it's (most probably going to be) dropping bombs.  Though not the first time, eh?   And the economy still sucks.

UPDATE:  El Pollo Raylan gives us this link explaining the silence of anti-war Hollywood.
Another reason some Hollywood progressives have been reticent to speak out against war in Syria, according to Asner, is fear of being called racist.
“A lot of people don’t want to feel anti-black by being opposed to Obama,” he said.
Be labeled racist because you oppose something done by a black president? Naw... never gonna happen.

How does hag Dunham keep coming up?

A.) Only way that ugly blob gets laid is by having a show to hype. B.) She is ordinarily unfuckable even with a rented pecker. C.) If you were really wasted and did her, she's the one you'd have leave by the fire escape.

I heard UN Ambassador Samantha Powers, who was on vacation the day Obama decided to pull his finger off the trigger, spoke about why Obama is striking Syria.

Make herself look busy I guess.

Well, it looks like she didn't check with anybody. Because those statements sound a lot like the statements of Bush 41, just before giving the military the go ahead to eject the Iraqis out of Kuwait.

Why is Samantha sounding so hawkish?

It has nothing to do with fears of racism. If it was President Herman Cain asking for this strike, they'd be out there in force.

When Ann Coulter is on, she's on. Here's the conclusion of her column, "Community Organizer Goes to War."

...may we ask why Kerry sneered at the war that removed such a monster as Hussein?

There were endless United Nations reports and resolutions both establishing that Saddam had used chemical weapons and calling on him to give them up. (For the eighth billionth time, we did find chemical weapons in Iraq, just no "stockpiles." Those had been moved before the war, according to Saddam's own general, Georges Sada -- to Syria.)

On far less evidence, our current president accuses Assad of using chemical weapons against a fraction of the civilians provably murdered with poison gas by Saddam Hussein. So why did Obama angrily denounce the military operation that removed Hussein? Why did he call that a "war of choice"?

Obama says Assad -- unlike that great statesman Saddam Hussein -- has posed "a challenge to the world." But the world disagrees. Even our usual ally, Britain, disagrees. So Obama demands the United States act alone to stop a dictator, who -- compared to Saddam -- is a piker.

At this point, Assad is at least 49,000 dead bodies short of the good cause the Iraq War was, even if chemical weapons had been the only reason to take out Saddam Hussein.

It's a good piece to save to remind anti-war folks of all the reasons we fought the Iraq War and of their hypocrisy today should they argue Syria is a more just war.

bagoh20 said...

I think it is quite possible that this could all work out surprisingly well for Obama. He could go against public opinion and congress, and then our excellent military assets do what they often do and totally kick ass without any losses to our people. They effectively destroy extensive portions of the Syrian forces including WMD stores and delivery systems. He's declared a genius by the left, the middle, and the Press.

The only obstacle is Obama's uncanny ability to choose badly when given options that are anything short of a no-brainer. His one good call getting Bin Laden was almost missed due to Obama's rare talent for failure.

I want us to bomb Syria, just because I like blowing up their stuff before they do it themselves. That pisses them off. I just wish we had a smarter President who would know how to avoid making it about him and not backing himself into a corner at the nation's expense. He will do whatever he expects to make him look best, period.

bagoh20 said...

It's estimated that Saddam Hussein caused the deaths of four million people during his 20 year reign. It is deeply tragic that so many good and brave Americans had to die to remove him and leave Iraq in relative peace and democracy, including fighting half of our own nation to do it, but the fact is that the Iraq war was relative low in American casualties compared to any other wars with such difficult and lofty objectives.

Still those deaths make me very wary of doing anything more than punishing and destroying from a safe distance. That's what we excel at and are uniquely capable of, and I say we use that ability wherever it can help mitigate atrocity and weaken those prone to it. Throw sand in the gears of dictators and dangerous factions whenever we can, constantly improve that ability and stay in good practice while we're at it.

Bagoh, destroying chemical weapon stockpiles from the air has ben known to have the same effect as USING chemical weapons. The only release of chemical weapons on people during WWII occurred when the Nazis bombed US stockpiles of mustard gas in Bari Italy. (The Germans didn't know the stuff was there, and the Allied governments censored all stories about the incident until 1956 or 1957.)

...

It's staggering to see that Obama and his Administration are getting worse at foreign policy the longer they're in charge. Truly epic failure.

And don't forget that they ran, in part, when they weren't running on Rush Limbaugh calling someone a slut of "binders full of women", on their foreign policy expertise last year.

Creeley-

Excellent Ann Counter. Prog heads must explode from the facts and reality within.

Soon after Bush invaded Iraq in 2003, Libya's Moammar Gadhafi was so terrified of an attack on his own country, he voluntarily relinquished his WMDs -- which turned out to be far more extensive than previously imagined.

Al-Qaida not only did not take over Iraq, but got its butt handed to it in Iraq, where the U.S. and its allies killed thousands of al-Qaida fighters, including the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. Iraq became the first genuine Arab democracy, holding several elections and presiding over a trial of Saddam Hussein.

Does anyone imagine that any of this would result from an Obama-led operation in Syria? How did his interventions work out in Egypt and Libya?

A lot of interesting comments here that I'd love to respond to, individually, but I am too biased, and angry in general over this Syria affair, to be fair.

One thing: War requires you reduce an enemy's means to resist, destroy all his resources, and in addition to material and materiel, that means women and children, future fighter breeders, in total war, which is the only kind you ever really win.

I wonder if all these blood lust attack Syria fanatics understand this simple condition of war?

BTW: Saddam Hussein gased far far more people than Assad is alleged to have done...and Ronald Reagan (1988) didn't do diddly squat, nor did Bush 41. Bush 41 did get himself hired out to the Saudis to liberate Kuwait, then quit half assed before anyone was defeated...a retreat is not a defeat, bitches. I flew my flag upside down for the entirity of Desert Storm. WTF, eh?...you don't atttack Saddam for the gassing of civilians, but you go after him for invading Kuwait...uh, like he woulnd't sell his oil otherwise? Bullshit, that was a pure 100% defense of Sadui Arabia, nothing else....except to set up KBR & Haliburton sub-sidaires with Kuwaiti meatheads to charge triple + for everything supplied thereafter.

War is NOT a video game. You go and blow the motherfucking shit out of some portions of someone's country, THAT is and ACT of WAR. You are in a WAR the moment you set out to do this stuff. Where do these diplomatic warriors get their ideas today?

On e last question: Do we really believe that one or more rogue nations, incomination perhaps, that we might attack now do NOT have a means to deliver a nuclear weapon to our shores? Do we still think like Taft, that fortress America is walled off by oceans and miles of airspace?

If so, we are idiots.

Aridog said...

One more thing...the same guy, Obama, that sponsored the surge in Afghanistan, Obama, with his acolyte generals McChrystal and Petraeus, neither of whihc ever commanded shit for a duration of anything...that same guy managed to double the losses for US soldiers and ISAF forces, in 3 years time over the prior 7 years total. THAT is the genius who will lead us in to the next war. You don't mind doubling losses now do you?

I think the world has gone mad or is on meth.

"Personally, I have come to believe Obama is just bone head fucking dumb. Stupid as a bag of rocks."

Dumb in the transcendent way that only really smart people can be dumb.

Actual dumb people fail to reach that peak of perfection in their dumbness.

You know, Sarah Palin would never do the dumb things that Obama does every day. Can anyone even imagine her giving a garbled "red line" explanation of why she wasn't intervening in Syria? What? Did Obama figure that Assad would never use chemical weapons so Obama didn't NEED to think through the consequences of all of his tough talk? He says so very much without saying anything at all, as if every word is designed to avoid responsibility for actually saying anything definite.

And he's done this since he was Senator Obama. And anyone paying attention could see it, too. Why worry about the words falling out of your mouth when you've never been held accountable for anything you've said ever in your life? Talk "academic speak" and impress all the other smarter-than-thou professors. Talk "community-organizer speak" where the only thing that matters is who you can placate or rile up and you're a "success" even if nothing gets accomplished because it's about "organizing".

So months and months ago Obama gives an "it's not bad enough yet" reason for not intervening in Syria. (After all, he did go happily tripping into Libya so why not Syria?) Did he explain a policy about how the US in his administration decides when to go to war? Oh, heck no. Because how could he ever ever justify Libya?

Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.

It's Myopic is what it is. Never ever any consequences for a college lecturer, never ever any consequences for a community organizer, never any NEED to look at the big picture to see the web of real world interactions and dependencies.

So... go into Libya without ever a thought about how you're going to excuse staying out of the next one. Who thinks about tomorrow? Say something "smart sounding" about how you make these complicated evaluations in your head and how using chemical weapons would be a red line and never think about tomorrow or the reality of the real world where such atrocity is nearly routine and bound to happen and then what?

Palin, castigated left *and* right for being less-than-smart has the native ability to see the web of connections and consequences. If you listen to what she says about nearly anything she'll mention some side issue that ties in... Exxon finally pays out their settlement and what she says is... "30% of the people who were owed that money are *dead* of old age. It's disgraceful." She's always thinking of that web of attached issues that Obama cannot even *conceive* of existing.

And she's the dumb one.

How pathetic we all are.

Dumb kills. Dumb is usually fatal more often than not. When one is not protected by his oh so special enclave, and no one finds a use for him otherwise, he's found DOA in the curb side gutter. Check out Chicago recently for young black men. Dumb = Dead.

Barry survives only because he's had wealthy sponsors who think him a useful idiot and defenders who've kept him from self destruction. On his own he'd last less than a week. Dumb ass wouldn't even know where not to go. He'd strut like the peacock he is until someone tore his head off. The end.
