Living better with chemistry! My little Teddy, the Peek A Pom got skunked once, luckily my son was willing to deal with him, I can't remember what he did. I had to go to work and when I got home the house smelled slightly skunky but not bad. I always thought marigolds smelled like skunk.
[Remove skunk odors by wiping down the animal with a 50-50 solution of white distilled vinegar and water, followed by a plain-water rinse. Repeat if necessary.]
Yeah, repeat 100 times until your dog smells like vinegar. I was expecting baking soda too, to create a reaction. I don't believe it. They go overboard, I think, there at the 1001 vinegar place, there is a lot of rub real hard until the stain is gone, type of thing too. Like the laundry. Maybe I'll try that. I put all my white clothes in the tub overnight with a scoop of Oxiclean and they came out blinding brilliant white.
Chemically, vinegar (acetic acid) should do nothing to neutralize skunk smell and neither should tomato juice. But hey, if it works for you guys, chalk it it up to the placebo effect.
