The new fastest laps claims to be set by the elegantly-named AfroDuck Productions. The run supposedly took place just a few days ago on August 26th, 2013. The car is a stock 2006 BMW Z4.
So what's the route? The driver starts on FDR/East Side Drive at 116th Street, just outside of Harlem. They tear down under the Williamsburg, Manhattan, and Brooklyn Bridges, then shoot through the Battery Park Tunnel around the downtown tip of the island. After that there are the red lights of West Street/West Side Drive, which finally opens up in Midtown by all of Trump's buildings.
The course then cuts off the northern tip of Manhattan, turning right by the George Washington Bridge in Washington Heights. From there, the driver gets across Manhattan at one of its narrowest points, turns back onto FDR/East Side Drive and runs to the start/finish line.

The story includes an interview with the guy claiming to be AfroDuck who claims to have broken the record... allegedly.
In the interview AfroDuck says he was always in total control.
From what I could tell, however, he did come close to hitting somebody, just one time.

If this person was only endangering himself, then I'd be all for it. But having been nearly killed by assholes like this, the charm drains out of it.
Apparently, the NYPD tracked the driver down via surveillance camera footage & arrested him.

You know they have both a spray clear film and specially ground lisc-plate glass covers either of which serve to obscure the lisc # to red-light cameras? I'm surprised he didn't utilize either one..

None of those things actually work. The only way to beat speed cameras is to travel faster than about 170 mph.
That was really interesting. Though I'm sure I'd be really pissed if I saw someone doing it, it looks really cool on video. What time of night can you accomplish such a feat, without attracting the cops?
