"That dress is very slimming on you."

*points top to bottom*  And it is.

That dress would be slimming on a hippopotomus. And then I think, "Ew, look how wide you would be without those slimming lines." And I keep thinking that every time I see the photo, a lot, since it's up every day to taunt, I'm assuming, they are clever with their choices of photos over there at Hot Air, and they tend to hang too so you see them repeatedly. A whole week. Not like here at commoncreerendios where things disappear in a day.

Now I've had it. Can't stand it. You get the treatment. I will mock you, since you are regularly so mean, and show how wide you really are where your deceptive lines say you are not, the perfect representation in clothing for your general way.

So I do. And it turns out I'm flat dead wrong. Again.

If I may say, back to you, "You do look lovely in blue."

Her hips aren't that big but theyre not proportioned well with her chest and the dress helps balance her out.

Her figure isn't what is unattractive about her, anyway.

I think a lot of people have some varying degrees of body dysmorphia issues and they are wholly unwarranted. It's the way the human brain perceives how it sees the body that it's housed in coupled with a lot more complicated stimulus from long term experiences of body issues, desires, envy, and even jealousy at what we desire and want most in ourselves, our bodies, and how we want to change that, but for some reason just can't.

If you are a size 6 and yet still see a fat person, then I'd say that might be something to look into as to why. If I saw a size 6 I wouldn't be saying or thinking fat at all, but rather I'd be seeing a largely healthy person.

Dig deeper into that statement. It isn't the mind per se, but rather a lifetime of experiences and ideas that have formed the thoughts that the mind projects. People control what they want to think, how they think it, when, and to whom.

What Chip is describing is a color block dress which is all the rage these days. We made a bunch last winter and everyone has it coming out this fall. We made it in leopard and brown houndstooth and grey houndstooth.

The side panels have a slimming effect and the color block in the middle of the dress gives it some pop.

Houndstooth is very "in" this fall season. As usual we were a year ahead so the stuff we made last year will sell like hotcakes a year later. Go figure.

DWS looks just fine in that picture. Not fat at all. Women are supposed to have hips, nothing wrong with having hips.

Most of the bodies we see the most of are super tiny actresses.

In real life size 6 is pretty darn tiny. (Good job Darcy!) But I totally get how there is still a fat person in the mirror.

I've lost some weight, though I'm still rolly-polly. But I'm realizing that I should take one of those awful "before" pictures, and soon! Because you look in the mirror every day and you just look like yourself because the changes are slow.

I asked my husband if he could tell, if I looked *smaller*... he said yes, my butt and my belly looked smaller... and then, bless his heart, to prove he wasn't just making it up to make me feel good, he added that my breasts were smaller too.

*Sigh*... of course they are.

Trooper York said...

Body image is a terrible problem for most women. I deal with the effects everyday.

Most of the time they have no idea what they really look like. Some babes with an unbelievable hour glass figure call themselves "Fat" and "Disgusting" when they look really hot.

You can't talk them out of it. You have to like yourself and give yourself have a chance. Everybody would like to lose a few pounds. To get healthy. But that doesn't happen overnight. You need to go to the office or that party or the family event and you need to look as good as you can. Most of all you need to not hate yourself.

Occasionally we get someone who might look great in every outfit they put on because they have a rocking hourglass figure. Just bigger than the models you see in a magazine. But all they will say after outfit is "I hate myself." I want to tell them "Well now it is unanimous."

But that would be wrong.

Give yourself a break girls. Seriously.

(1) My point is, let's say a woman is a healthy weight. You want to lose 10 or 15 lbs. or whatever so you have a rocking hot body.

Fine. But what does that get you? How does your life improve any? Do strangers walk up to you on the street and hand you money? Does that guy you've been mooning over suddenly fall madly in love and you both live happily ever after? Do your kids suddenly get better grades in school?

Okay, that's enough. You all see where I'm going with this.

DWS is a fine example of what's wrong with Florida. She's from Long Island.

We have another Congressman from here in Central Florida also from NY, Alan Grayson*. It's disgusting that we have all these damned New Yorkers "representing" Florida in Washington. But the reality is that they're representing Washington in Florida, when they bother to come home.

* Grayson's story is kind of funny. Elected in 2008 in the Obama "landslide", he promptly got un-elected in 2010 by the Tea Party landslide. In 2012 he decided to run again, in another district. He chose a district that was designed specifically with the idea of electing a Hispanic to the House. But when Grayson declared, all his out of state money crushed any Democrat from even making the attempt at running. (That's why he chose that district instead of his old one, where there would have been a serious Democratic primary opponent.)

Anyway, having crushed Democratic Hispanics, he then turned his eyes on destroying any possible Republican Hispanic. He did this by choosing his opponent! He ran ads against the likely Hispanic Republican candidate, in favor of a (redundancy alert!) slimeball local attorney with a record of drunk driving. Grayson's money in the REPUBLICAN primary allowed him to get rid of any significant opposition before the general election. The people in that district basically got no choice in the general election.

And that's how NYC Dems roll in Central Florida. (Oh, and Grayson has had some problems staying on the road himself. But the local Democratic police departments covered that up nicely. He was just "distracted" by his cell phone, donchaknow.)

@Mitchell the Bat

Perhaps a discussion for another day, but the difference can be great. I am treated way differently by virtually everybody I know and strangers I meet. No stranger has handed me money yet - that would be awful - but I asked a guy to pass the salt at a diner and he said "May I offer you my heart?". I'm just saying, it's way different for me now.

While it's been an overwhelmingly positive change for me, I know the other side, and I still think it's a shame we're so obsessed with perfection. Makes me sad for people struggling with body image and who desperately want to lose weight but have a hard time doing it. If it was easy, we'd all be slim.

Cody Jarrett said...

I saw pictures of some woman (more like a girl, really) who's touted as the new top full figured model (or plus sized or whatever they called her). I can't remember her name but I know pictures of her made me sad--because she was a very beautiful girl who didn't look plus sized or whatever (I'm not sure when "full figured" became a bad thing either...).

She just looked good. And normal.

The fashion industry has always been infested by these stylistic hijack pirates. I've always said that the ugliest people in the world work behind the scenes of fashion. On the outside and the inside. Many of them wish they could be the ladies in front of the camera. Self-loathing and all.

Cody Jarrett said...

Seriously the issue of plus models is a sore spot for us.

Most of the so called star "plus" models are barely a size 12. They most often have hourglass figures.

We only use real people in our website. Customers mostly. People with real hips and breasts and yes bellies. Most plus size clothing is geared toward woman who are considered "pears." That is small on the top but spreading out down below in the hips and the but. They don't take into account the "apple shapes" with a belly.

We don't make that mistake.

Cody Jarrett said...

At least, for the camera.

What shape is Katie, the girl in the pictures you linked to? She just looks mostly normal but thick.

She's a pretty kid. Nice smile.

Trooper York said...

The name of the dress is the Katie but the two models will remain anonymous.

They are actually both a woman's size 12. The camera really distorts what people look like.

An apple shape if round all over but the primary and most important feature is that they have a belly. That is what you find most often in white and Hispanic girls. The black chicks often have bigger thighs and booty but a slimmer waist. Since much of the plus industry is geared to the African American customer they create dresses that work for the hour glass (slim waist but big booty and breasts) or the pear (small up top but big on the bottom). They don't work for the apple who is big all over but especially in the stomach.

sort of this color

Except worse.

Here's where those two get me, I noticed right away, you have to notice, but now I notice in Stacy and Clinton terms, the girl is a bit wide in the hips, and that is fine, she is gorgeous, but her jacket was cut to flare out right at her widest area effectively doubling the width, or nearly so. It was cut to be shapely in a Jetson's kind of way, and the cut fine on a figure like Judy but not on the weather girl. And I felt bad for noticing and noticing exactly what was wrong. Thanks Stacy, Clint.

Sometimes what is fashionable is not right for your body.

What we specialize in is adapting the current fashion trends to a different body type.

However some things do not translate. It is that simple.

It's like the fact that there is no word in Arabic for soap. It just doesn't work.

The fava beans (foul) in Egypt are okay, but I like the fava beans better here.

I do like that technique of pricking the lamb and putting in garlic slivers. And while I do not like mint jelly with lamb, I do like a tabouli that instead of straight parsley is a mix of Italian parsley, some cilantro and basil, and a touch of mint to it. Mint is great if used sparingly.
