Hollywood bending to pressure

Daily Mail UK has a piece about Hollywood bending to pressure from Hitler, one MGM executive divorcing his Jewish wife.

"But Honey, Hitler is making me do it."

And I was thinking, boy, sure is a good thing nothing like that could happen nowadays.

OTOH, Hollyweird stopped making Fu Manchu movies because of US government pressure since they made China, a probable ally, look bad.

Actually the Hollywood Reporter brought out the story yesterday, and it's based on a new book detailing the whole mess by Ben Urwand that's available now. You could probably use the Lemster's Amazon thingy to get it.

Weird Coincidences of the Internet #274:

As I sat here waiting for my computer to boot up, I was thinking about how I've gotten to be anti-social, not that I was ever Mr. Congeniality.

Anyway, new neighbors are moving in today and they've got two little kids, and I presume an old lady with them because their new house has an in-law suite.

And I was just saying to my wife, "I already don't like them and for no good reason." You see, I used to desperately want other people to like me but now I see other people in terms of usefulness, and seldom is a stranger a person of any use to me.

How did this come to happen? Only a little bit of it is the simple fact of getting older, I reasoned. Almost all of it is spending so much time isolated, on the internet, and that sort of attitude is prevelant, and I think it just kind of rubbed off on me.

Okay, what's the coincidence part?

Many years ago, I had a girlfriend who was even more desperate to be liked than me. She was neurotic about it maybe to the point of pathologic, if you want to define nymphomania as a psychosis.

That 20-year-old woman would even sing to herself some little song she learned way back when she was a little kid.

"Make a friend, make a friend, [something, something,] make a friend."

I never could pick up all the lyrics because part of the song was in Hebrew. That's right, she learned it in Hebrew school or something like that and I think maybe that's the song they'd sing when the teachers would have the kids pair up with each other as some kind of bonding ritual.

That's because they all stick together . . . those dirty, rotten, no good JEWS!!!!!!!!!!

IIRC, not too long ago, the Hillary movie that was not flattering, was cancelled, and now, the latest Hillary movie which puts her in a good light is a go.

Don't tell me that Hollywood isn't still doing what it did during the Hitler/Nazi era.

Good thing the leftwingers who run Hollywood would never pimp and push leftwing propaganda.

They would never pimp and push Hillary! on us.

You're looking at the new neighbors all wrong, Mitchell. Does your lawn need help this summer? The new neighbors can provide! A mix of old people and new people (i.e., children) tend to make for a potent fertilizer.

Or so I hear....

A better title would have referenced H'weird grabbing ankles for a uniballer.

(Originally wrote "H'wierd", and spellcheck suggested "swineherd".)

The book, and stories based on it, have been out for about a month.

Odd the DM is just getting around to it now.

There are only so many pope visits and train derailments and World Wide Webs of Weiner to occupy the attention away from the disaster of a leader we are unfortunate to call our president.

Why should Hitler scape the cast of characters bedeviling the masses with "an annoying, low-frequency humming, throbbing or rumbling sound..."

The Aliens can only do so much, after all.

Hollywood studios weren't the only corporate citizens to cooperate with Nazi Germany. IBM sold the Nazis the calculating machines with which the Nazis kept track of the Jews and AT&T kept the trans-Atlantic telephone cables open to Germany well into 1943 until FDR threatened to publicly expose them.

John McCain would be the type of person to bend to this type of pressure.

And yet, if you go to the Amazon page for the book, it clearly states that "this title will be released on September 9,2013".

So no. The book hasn't been out about a month. That's why Drudge was all up with the giant red headline about it yesterday.

Hollywood may have collaborated with Hitler, and certain directors and actors have historically shown admiration for dictators like Ho Chi Minh, Mao, Daniel Ortega, Fidel Castro, and Hugo Chavez. But come out as a conservative and your Hollywood life is over.

Working with a person like that is seen as collaborating with the enemy.

Icepick said...

John McCain would be the type of person to bend to this type of pressure.

That's totally spurious. McCain would only do that if there was money in it for him or his family.

...

Also, I'm curious. When did these folks start bending over for Hitler? Was this immediately after the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact was enacted in 1939? Lefties in the US started soft-pedaling Hitler after that pact because suddenly Hitler was on the side of their man Stalin, and thus one of their guys.

Cody Jarrett said...

But come out as a conservative and your Hollywood life is over.

Except for Tom Selleck, who's too pretty to be kept out of Hollywood.

Isn't he already saying he might vote for Hillary?

Does Urwand address why people today perceive Hollywood as being anti-Israel? Or the financial collusion between wealthy stars and the Democrat party?

Cody Jarrett said...

The Amazon blurb:

To continue doing business in Germany after Hitler's ascent to power, Hollywood studios agreed not to make films that attacked the Nazis or condemned Germany's persecution of Jews. Ben Urwand reveals this bargain for the first time--a "collaboration" (Zusammenarbeit) that drew in a cast of characters ranging from notorious German political leaders such as Goebbels to Hollywood icons such as Louis B. Mayer.

At the center of Urwand's story is Hitler himself, who was obsessed with movies and recognized their power to shape public opinion. In December 1930, his Party rioted against the Berlin screening of All Quiet on the Western Front, which led to a chain of unfortunate events and decisions. Fearful of losing access to the German market, all of the Hollywood studios started making concessions to the German government, and when Hitler came to power in January 1933, the studios--many of which were headed by Jews--began dealing with his representatives directly.

Urwand shows that the arrangement remained in place through the 1930s, as Hollywood studios met regularly with the German consul in Los Angeles and changed or canceled movies according to his wishes. Paramount and Fox invested profits made from the German market in German newsreels, while MGM financed the production of German armaments. Painstakingly marshaling previously unexamined archival evidence, The Collaboration raises the curtain on a hidden episode in Hollywood--and American--history.

So probably not, Chickie.

chickelit said...

So probably not, Chickie.

So Urwand exposes a heretofore unexplored collusion between Hollywood and a foreign government. What is the early warning sign take home message for today? That outside money still today buying/coercing such influence? He's still not addressing the financial role Hollywood played in reelecting POTUS.

@CEO-MMP: Hollywood sells good guys/bad guys dichotomies. It's clear who the good were in the past...who are they today? Still confused and not convinced that David Geffen and Steven Spielberg are the good guys.

Icepick said...

Isn't he already saying he might vote for Hillary?

Somewhere, somehow he's expecting to get paid for that. Maybe by getting appointed America's oldest ever Secretary of State. Because we're not involved in enough wars right now.

Icepick said...

You people need to stop obsessing about McCain. You're worse than Cedarford/Althouse.

How can you blame us? McCain not only sucks donkey balls, he laps up donkey cunt too. You just don't see that everyday. Except on the Senate floor, apparently.

Icepick said...

And that was probably the rudest comment I have ever written. But just barely.

WWIII Joe Biden, Husk-Puppet + America's Putin said...

I'm obsessing over him because, if you'll indulge me, John McCain is a blistering boil symptomatic of what is wrong with our government.
He's too old and he should retire, but he won't and the people of AZ won't do it either.
Someone needs to primary him. Sadly, the old cow won't bow out gracefully and is now saying he'll voter for Hillary? It's time for the people of AZ to throw the bum out.

Eric the Fruit Bat said...

John McCain, the gentle genius behind Itchy and Scratchy, loved and cared about almost all the peoples of the world. And he, in turn, was beloved by the world...except in 1938, when he was criticized for his controversial cartoon "Nazi Supermen Are Our Superiors."

That's only since 1970.

Before 1965, there were enough Americans in Hollyweird to keep the Commies in line.

Then Drudge is late, too.

The stories have still been around for a few weeks.

Happy?

I assume Lem was tongue in cheek about Hollywood no longer succumbing to a present day diktat from a Hitler equivalent. Well, the liberal reactionaries (love that description of our rulers, formulated by Krauthammer) have ordained that there be no patriotic films and when was the last time Hollywood produced a no holds barred celebration of America movie?

Take every Hollywood film attacking the USSR pre-Pearl Harbor, then take every Hollywood film attacking Nazi Germany pre-Pearl Harbor.

Compare.

Probable ratio 1-50.

Make a movie. Attack Christians, America, Whites, Western civilization, Businessman, Republicans.

Blowback from Hollywood: Zero.

Make a movie attacking Muslims, or Jews, Blacks, foreigners (Except Germans, Canadians, and English)

Blowback from Hollywood: None. 'Cause your movie won't even get made or distributed.
