Maybe. But I think it has much more to do with the nastiness of recent threads on sperm and gay marriage, coupled with the reappearance of SHE WHO SHALL NOT BE NAMED. I do think the Professor has brought some of this on herself, as she has been gloating a bit lately. I don't think she believes that is what she has been doing, but that is what she has been doing, which diminishes her ability to get everyone else to behave.
But it's probably time for a purge anyway. There are plenty of commenters now who are actual negatives. I could really do without reading anything else from PMJ/WOTI, Ritmo, garage mahal (who is just phoning it in now), Inga, Jay, Nichevo, and even, said to say, Crack Emcee. Not to mention the hardcore one-person crap-fest that is Mary. (That list isn't inclusive, BTW, but off the top of my head those are all people that contribute nothing positive, not even humor.)
But we'll see how the new regime works, and how long it holds.

I grew to enjoy Rh's comments. His wit and well read.
At least Meade finally acknowledged, in a pussy-ish back handed sort of way, that Fred4Pres is not President Mom Jeans. Fred4Pres was too good for such a lame comparison.
But this mess was entirely a self inflicted wound by Meadhouse.
If I remember correctly, the mistaken impression that Palladian was leaving, was corrected by him after his comment where he expressed disappointment over seemingly overly anti-gay expressions of people he said he respected.
If Althouse feared that Palladian was irreparably hurt over anti-gay comments, other than fronting his comment, I never read it, otherwise I would have remembered it.
I do remember Palladian coming in later and correcting the misimpression that he was going to leave. I even might have said something which right now off the top of my head I cant remember.
It got old; besides, what may have really stung was so many of the people that disagreed showed no sign of being beaten.
They still disagreed and still intended to oppose it.
She never got the hang of the whole Coexist thing.
